General :: 'make Menuconfig' To Make These Files Modules Rather Than Compiled Elements?
Feb 25, 2011
I need to modify fs/open.c and fs/read_write.c to make my modifications. I cannot find any options in 'make menuconfig' to make these files modules rather than compiled elements. I'm thinking these cannot be modules because the file system won't work without open.c and read_write.c. Is this correct - I cannot compile fs/open.c and fs/read_write.c as modules, only as compiled elements? Or, is there some way for a module to overwrite these routines when the module is installed and re-enable the routines when the module is removed?

Why is make returning that error? I am using a 64-bit kernel.

When configuring a custom kernel using fedoraproject.org instructions, the make menuconfig options for LIRC are not in the .config file anywhere. I checked the kernel tree and all the files are there in the .../drivers/input/lirc subdirectory (I need the lirc_dev and lirc_i2c drivers). I reset the .config to its original settings to make sure I didn't mess up. I also grep'ed the .config file for any LIRC related settings, none found. Also I'm not getting any sound from the radio-aztech driver.

i couldn't find anything on google. So here is my problem: It's Debian GNU/Linux. I installed apache2 a few weeks ago, but due to some work I couldn't go on installing further things. Today I installed php5 and mysql. Everything seemed to work fine. I loaded an existing MyBB Board and WordPress Site onto the server and imported the mysql db. I can open the sites and login. However, there are problems. I think my problems are due to the compiled modules. Some are missing. I checked several sites. They all give me this listing:
Code:
apache2 -l
Compiled in modules:
core.c
mod_access.c
[Code]...
What should I do? How can I get the missing modules? Do I have to install apache again (how? remove - install? install what?)? Step-by-step instructions would be kind, because I don't know a lot about unix systems.

Player-Stage uses .cc files. I know how to compile them. But how do I actually execute my code? There is an output file generated. There is nothing in the .cfg file or in the .world file that specifies what program to use to run the robot. Or is it not specified in the world or cfg files?
Then how to make the robot obey my compiled .cc file? If this question is silly or if I am asking stupid questions

i'm trying to install driver for some PCI device but i have problems with it - when i run it it gives me an error

i've tried to find solution in internets but have no success usually they say that problem is that ppl forget to download kernel-headers and kernel-sources or unpack kernel-sources or make symlink usr/src/linux but i've done it all and the result is the same.i think the root of problem is that `/lib/modules/ 2.6.32-5-686/build' folder is empty but there have to be this RULE, so what i have to do to have it there? my system is Debian 6.0.10 Squeeze, Kernel 2.6.32-5-686.

I recently bought a pci multi io card to give my pc 2 parallel ports. For Linux, Moschip supply the source plus makefile and instructions. I ran make as root and got an error message
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop/build/: No such file or directory. So I created a folder called build in /lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop but that isn't good enough as I still get an error cannot make target modules. So I assume there must be something in the build folder. So what packages do I have to install to get the correct environment to be able to build the driver? Has anyone done this and can supply the driver for 11.2?

I am relatively new to linux and am running into a problem. I just got a new laptop and need to configure/install it's wireless driver but am getting an error when running "make". The error is: make[1]: Entering directory `/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop/build' make[1]: *** No rule to make target `modules'. Stop.
I have scoured these forums and know that others have the same issue (when configuring other drivers/programs). I am sorry if this post is redundant. It sounds like the Makefile is pointing to the wrong directory. I am using opensuse 11.4, have make and gcc installed. My kernel is linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 (I just re-installed the desktop kernel to make sure it was up to date). The driver I am trying to install is located here: AUR (en) - rtl8192ce.
Another forum suggests pointing somewhere in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 directory instead. Is this correct? Should I be pointing to a folder within this? I am not a programmer but any description about what I am actually putting in this directory and why would be awesome (so I can learn a bit more). Or just helping me solve the problem would be great too.

We are running SLES 10.3, I am running Novell's support advisor and it is reporting some old hardware that is failing on bootup, one being a QLogic card and another being flex net network adapter. I was looking around for where the file or directory is that holds the list of modules to be loaded when compiling the kernel but SLES does not seem to match other Linux distro's, at least from the other posts I read for where to find these.

Under Debian "Expert Installation" once I have chosen installation/system language and location, I get an informative notice, that:
Code:
There is no locale defined for the combination of language and country you have selected.
..and I need to choose one locale available for the selected language. As I understand, locale is just a set of environmental variables used by applications and printed out with locale command?
In addition, is it possible to generate own locale files after the installation, which will match my needs?

I'm currently trying to make a script to rename all the files with one provided file extension to a second provided file extension. I've achieved this by commanding "sh newext doc txt" with the following which works perfectly:
#!/bin/sh
for f in *$1;
do
mv "$f" "`basename "$f" $1`$2";
done;
However, I'd like to be able to modify what I've written so far, so that I can choose whether to convert file extensions in a subdirectory or not. For example, I could enter "sh newext -r doc txt" and the subdirectory's files would also be affected by my script, or enter "sh newext -n doc txt" which would only affect the directory I'm in.

I have some confusion about one of my partition and the space it is taking. df -h output is given below;
# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/ddf1_ADVDTARTINGp1
494G 18G 452G 4% /
[code]....
above information is showing that /var/lib/mysql partition total size is 379 GB and it is 68% used. However when I execute command du -sh /var/lib/mysql it shows following output.
# du -sh /var/lib/mysql
45G /var/lib/mysql
Now I want to know what files are taking space to make the partition 68% used. I want to list down all files in that partition with size.
