View 14 Replies View RelatedI am using Fedora 13. and had bought MTS Mblaze Mobile Broadband device. One installer comes with this device for Fedora, I have installed it.There were some issues while starting this application on fedora. But after seeing some threads for SELinux, it had been solved. Now, when I run this software, a window appears. If i clicked connect, it does show connecting and once connected automatically firefox opens.
But i am not able to access internet. After some time software shows device is in sleep mode due to inactivity. Network connectivity icon on launch panel on fedora shows network is connected.I had similar problem with Mandriva 10..
I am deployed to Iraq and the Earthlink ISP here uses PPPoE to configure a connection to their wireless broadband. His english skills are pretty good and from what I gather, he's got a DSL connection that he's trying to connect me to. He showed me how he does it on a Windows machine but I can't figure it out on my ubuntu laptop. That windows machine didn't need any IP addresses or server names. It only used a username and password to connect. Of course a strong wireless signal detected was also pre-requisite.
I know my laptop works because I've had great success with it here lately, just not on the Earthlink service.I see their wireless is broadcast and I can connect to it. I just can't figure out how to post my credentials and authenticate.I don't see a way of entering my username and password because I don't know how to install (or configure) for PPPoE.I did use the pppoeconfig and got to the part where I add my username and password, but most of what's going on up to and after that, I do not have the knowledge base to use. So I figured that allowing the defaults and recommended settings would be acceptableYou'll have to forgive me if I've asked another dumb question here. I'm another one of those Linux enthusiasts who is learning and I'm just not willing to switch back to MS just to get internet while deployed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am able to configure a working 3G connection but I do not want it to be enabled at startup. I want it "on-demand" and I need that it is easy for non-skilled persons, that is double-clicking a desktop icon. So I think I have to call a script or something else but I do not know the command.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala as my desktop OS. My internet connection is creating problems these days, ever since I started downloading torrents for iso files. Whenever the downloads in transmission client is running, the internet gets disconnected abruptly, and even my other downloads in d4x stops. On using the plog command in the terminal, it shows the following:
Sep 5 03:32:57 gunjan pppd[3241]: LCP terminated by peer
Sep 5 03:32:57 gunjan pppd[3241]: Connect time 4.5 minutes.

Sep 5 03:35:10 gunjan pppd[3241]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets

I dont understand much of it, as am a new user using linux systems from only a few months ago, can't find out. Also on closing the transmission client the other downloads in d4x run perfectly well and so does my internet connection.
I am new to linux.Use broadband wire-line internet connection that requires username and password. Using GUI in Administration--Network I see realtek 8129 fast ethernet configured. However when I try to create new connection and activate it, it shows could not activate. eth0 inactive.
I am able to use my broadband connection in windows XP.
i recently changed my broadband provider and since then i havent been able to connect to the internet. I have configured all the settings on my laptop,(ive got puppy linux 4 on it). All the settings say i have a valid connection to the wireless connection and that its recognised the new provider but when i try to access the internet i get the page that says UNABLE TO CONNECT TO SERVER and it also says that i need to check my network connections etc etc. Ive done all that and it appears that i have everything in the right place. SO WHY wont it connect.

I am new to Linux. Just installed Ubuntu 10.04 few days back. The problem I am having is not able to connect to internet. Mine is direct cable connection using CAT5 cable terminted to my ethernet card. and I connect to the net using a dial-up connection. I think other end of the cable is terminated to a common switch.I have tried searching it over net. The only thing I could figure out is that I have to do some configuration on pppoe (am i right?)Are there any commands I have to enter or anything like we used to do in windows?

I want to configure Internet connection in my linux os but don't know how to do it. In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.
In windows I do it in this way-
1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get RASPPPOE.inf file from PPPOE folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.
2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.

I'm having problems with my mobile connection. This has been working fine for months, but in the past few days it has connected OK, I've been able to transfer data, but after 30s the connection closes. Setup is Acer AA1 with F12 connecting via bluetooth to Nokia 3110c on O2.
So to try and figure out what's happening I put the bluetooth dongle in my desktop PC, also running F12, made a connection and again it dropped out after 30s. Then I fired up windows on the AA1 and made a connection using the same dongle, this time it held up OK. This leads me to think that something has changed recently in F12 to upset it.
In the last week I have noticed that sometimes my Mobile Broadband connection just goes off without me doing anything! I have credit on the dongle account, so it isn't that. I'm using fedora 14 on an acer aspire one netbook. Dongle is a Huawei E160 on o2 here in the UK Kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.i686.fc14
Sometimes unplugging and replugging the usb dongle works. Othertimes, I have to leave it out for several hours. It does seem to happen daily, though.
I connect to the internet with a mobile broadband dongle. I would like to change the dns settings as page loading seems to be running slow. However, there is no ip tab associated with mobile broadband in the knetwork manager module. There is however for my vpn connection. I have found reference to the ip tab in other postings but alas I am stumped. Is it possible that the mobile broadband connection does not load that tab whereas users on wireless or ethernet have it? That is the only solution I can think of.
