General :: Configure Gmail For Sending Email - Connection Timed Out
Jun 23, 2010
I have a problem sending emails in the command line. I have introduced this command:
sendEmail -f my.account@gmail.com -t myself@domain.tld
-u this is the test tile -m "this is a test message"
-s smtp.gmail.com
-o tls=yes
-xu usernameonly -xp mypasswd
But then I received this message:
sendEmail[13230]: ERROR => Connection attempt to smtp.gmail.com:25 failed: IO::Socket::INET: connect: Connection timed out
I am having alot of trouble setting up evolution to work with gmail. I am using pop for recieving mail and it's slow but still works. When I try to send mail with smtp.gmail.com I get the error message that the connection timed out. How can I set this up to send and recieve email?
I have been trying to solve this problem for two days now looking at various forums and websites but can't really figure out what's going on here.I have setup postfix on my ubuntu and I can send emails using "telnet localhost 25" and the ehlo thingy. Apache can also send emails. My problem is with incoming emails. When I try to send an email (through Gmail) I get the following error message:
Code: Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed: root@example.com
I am pretty new to C.L.I/text editing work. So maybe its a bit old-fashioned but I am interested in learning how to send email via the command line. I am running 10.04 32 bit
Situation: I have followed the explicit and step-by-step actions at http://klenwell.com/is/UbuntuCommandLineGmail
Question: Upon completion, when trying to send a test email to myself via gmail (from CLI) I get the following error: "msmtp: no recipients found". In CLI below it asks me to explicitly pick a mailx to download. I think I already have mailx as when I type mailx I get "no mail for primary".
Here is my work Code: :~$ sudo apt-get install msmtp mailx [sudo] password for: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done msmtp is already the newest version. Package mailx is a virtual package provided by: mailutils 1:2.1+dfsg1-4ubuntu1 heirloom-mailx 12.4-1.1 bsd-mailx 8.1.2-0.20090911cvs-2ubuntu1
You should explicitly select one to install. E: Package mailx has no installation candidate :~$ gedit ~/.msmtprc :~$ chmod 600 ~/.msmtprc :~$ gedit ~/.mailrc :~$ echo -e "testing email from the command line" > /tmp/test_email :~$ mailx -s "mailx gmail test" xxxxxxx@gmail.com < /tmp/test_email msmtp: no recipients found
Here is ~/.msmtprc Code: # config options: [URL]#A-user-configuration-file defaults logfile /tmp/msmtp.log # gmail account #account gmail auth on host smtp.gmail.com port 587 user xxxxxx@gmail.com password xxxxxx from xxxxxx@gmail.com tls on tls_trust_file /usr/share/ca-certificates/mozilla/Equifax_Secure_CA.crt # set default account to use (not necessary with single account) #account default : gmail and here is ~/.mailrc
Code: # set smtp for mailx # gmail account (default) # $ mailx -s "subject line" -a /path/attachment recipient@email.com < /path/body.txt set from="xxxxxx@gmail.com (xxxxx)" set sendmail="/usr/bin/msmtp" set message-sendmail-extra-arguments="-a gmail"

Linux printing appeared to be working fine up until yesterday. Today typing lpq gives the following: lpq Printer 'sdst@other.domain' - cannot open connection - Connection timed out Make sure LPD server is running on the server
The /etc/cups/printers.conf file is properly set, the printers appear in localhost:631 and they are printing test pages. However, all command line print commands seem to be trying to print to sdst@other.domain I don't know why printers.conf is being ignored and why and how sdst@other.domain was added. Seems like it might have been auto-discovered?
# dit: sdst@other.domain was mentioned in /usr/local/etc/lpd.conf I'm not sure why lpd.conf is being used instead of /etc/cups/printers.conf
Had anyone tried downloading a free SMTP server from the web and use it to send emails in nagios, when the services are down, an email notification will be sent.Right now i need a smtp server in order for me to send email notifications, are there any recommended ones?
We use mutt to send out emails.mutt -s "Test" -e "Content-Type: text/html" test@example.com < message.htmlWe send out our email updates in HTML format. We would like to send emails as multi-part containing both a text version and an html version. How do we create such a multipart message in Linux when the email subject, and HTML and text versions of the email body are given? Can we use mutt to send the multipart email created in step 1, from the linux prompt?
here is a fragment of a bash that i have to send an email when a back Up is made. basically a usr runs the sh - it asks for the job num and I read that from standard in . I do a tar of the drv to tape and I wish to send an email that job such and such has happened. My problem is : the subject of the email. I can set it - but if i try to use a var ( as in the $jobNum ) that Does work in the mail body - the subject comes out blank. I have also tried to buld a text file and shove that in the SUBJECT. my Q is how can I use a var in the subject.
# email subject ### so I have tried bulding and reading a tmp file -no works EMAILSUBJECT="/tmp/emailsubject.txt" echo "backup job" $jobNum >$EMAILSUBJECT
I'm using Linux 11.04 and just installed the most recent version of Postfix. I'm trying to send a simple email (through a relay) but when I run the command
sendmail davea@mydomain.com FROM: fromemail@gmail.com SUBJECT: hello world this is a test email .
It just hangs there. There is nothing in /var/log/mail.log or in any of its accompanying files.
I cannot send an email link in Namoroka. I go to file-send link and nothing happens. I tried to find the problem by about:config in Namoroka. I just found /usr/bin/mozilla-thunderbird. With my limited knowledge I do not know what else to look for.
I have sendmail setup and it works fine sending emails to outside email addresses. When I try and send email to our internal groupwise server the mail never gets there and I get an error message in the log user unknown.
i have a problem regarding our email server. all the users can send email but they cant received mail. .when hitting send receive on outlook there were no error found. .i have already reboot the server and restarted the sendmail services but still same problem.
I am not able to connect to remote server through secureCRT . my local team has said that server is working fine . but I am not able to connect it remotely . what more i can do to connect it to server
I have been trying to configure the mailcheck in gkrellm to check and notify for new mail on my gmail account. I have activated pop of course...
These are the pop info taken from gmail:
Quote:
Server for incoming mail (IMAP) - needs SSL: imap.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 993 Server outgoing mail (SMTP) - needs TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use verification) Use verifiering: Yes Use STARTTLS: Yes(some clients call this SSL) Port: 465 or 587
I come from more of a programming background but have been giving the task of sending backup results from a linux box in an email to external email addresses, I have spent days looking trough google for info but cant seem to find anything simple, I have looked at postfix but because I don't understand networks, hosts, nameservers etc. What I need to do to allow mail get sent from the linux box to external mail address. I have outlook connected to an exchange server on windows and I can ping the linux box from my windows command so surely it cant be to much involved.
I am trying to copy the file on remote server, but I am getting error " ssh: connect to host 172.28.21.14 port 22: Connection timed outlost connection "My two server are bastion10 and newlink, I want to copy file from newlink to bastion10 buet unable. I am able to ping, when i run " lsof -i :22 " command on link3new server I am getting
link3-new:lsof -i :22 sshd 6992 root 4u IPv6 11878 TCP *:ssh (LISTEN) while on bation10 it is ( ESTABLISHED ) ..
I want to send mails via gmail with php. I need to know how to configure main.cf, php.ini, postfix,smtp... and all what is necessary. I tried a lot but no results.
I use fedora 13 now. I want to try mutt, but I don't know how to make it work.so I search by Google, Then,I add a .fetchmailrc in my home directory as below:
set daemon 60 set logfile /home/kenifanying/.fetchlog poll pop.gmail.com protocol POP3 user "abc@gmail.com" password "123456" ssl sslcertck sslcertpath /home/kenifanying/.certs/
There are two files named gmail.pem and Equifax_Secure_CA.pem in ~/.certs/ I create these two files like this: First, I retrieve the Gmail certificate provided by the Gmail pop server: $ openssl s_client -connect pop.gmail.com:995 -showcerts
I want to know that by default do we need to configure SMTP and POP3/IMAP sever for sending and receiving mails in Linux server and client machines or we can directly send and receive mails without configuring these mail servers?
I am running debian testing, amd64 architecture on my box. I have 3 gmail accounts that I use regularly. I have used mainly thunderbird/icedove to access my mailboxes via imap. However, now two of them have really several tens of thousands of emails I often experience difficulties in dealing with them (the connection often freezes, browsing my folders is a pain).I tried also sylpheed and claws, but the situation has not really improved.I do not think there is anything fundamentally wrong in the way I configured my accounts on the various clients (actually, some of them even boast automatic setup of gmail accounts).
