General :: Any Mouse Sensitivity Control Applications?

Sep 26, 2010

Running Lucid, has been a bit glitch here and there, but generally ok. I use Audacity a lot, so need "drag" with the mouse. Also "drag" on the desktop has gone totally now it just opens the file or folder. Any mouse control app that works? Using a ps2 led mouse, it works fine under wine/crossover apps.

But after the reboot, it no longer works within the gui.I have already searched for hours via google and tried many things to no avail

SUSE :: Partition Control For 11.2 And 11.1 ?

Apr 27, 2010

From around March 15th I have been getting "stomped on" by problems on my latest computer. The computer is a HP Compaq dc5850sff which is a nice little business computer based on a 2.8 GHz Athlon 5400B dual core CPU and the AMD 780V chipset. I upgraded the 160 GB HDD to a 250 GB HDD and the 2 GB single port RAM to 4 GB dual port RAM.

I intended to run this as a dual boot computer with the supplied Windows and a version of OpenSuSE.

Given a choice of 32-bit Vista Business and 32-bit XP Pro I prefer the Vista, but when it came time to start the computer, I accidentally chose XP Pro. I will not say more about it, but yes, it really was an accident.

I might be upgrade the XP Pro to Vista, but the difficulties I have had lately make me want to stay with the simplest setups.

The problems I have had all center around partitioning and booting.

1st Problem: I am aware that the OpenSuSE 11.1 GNOME (and I believe also KDE) had problems creating dual boot installations over Windows because of errors that arose in the installation of Grub. It was possible to "trash" the HDD losing both the Windows side and the Linux side. Yes, the damage was repairable, but after reading the summaries and trying to understand them (they are, or were posted right on the OpenSuSE Website) I pretty much gave up. I could see that if I studied them hard enough, I should have been able to fix the various problems, but it was just going to take too much time for me.

Keep in mind that I have installed dual-boot Windows/OpenSuSE 11.1 setups on 2 different computers successfully. One is still in fairly regular use, but the other eventually failed. I am still waiting to get around to removing critical data files from that computer in order to attempt a fix. I believe the failure happened due to changes in partitioning, but I need to check my notes to be sure.

Apparently, this bug has been "fixed" and there is a newer ISO for a "LiveCD" of 11.1 created by someone else (NOT an official OpenSuSE distribution) which should include the new version. If I could find that, I might give it a try.

2nd Problem: OpenSuSE 11.2 Gnome has a bug in the "Expert Partitioner" which means that it should also not be used. There has been a fix submitted, but the last time I checked (about a week ago now) it had not been distributed. The 11.2 KDE LiveCD discs should not have a problem in this regard, but I do not have time for more "test run" software.

To get around the "Expert Partitioner" I had hoped to use "Parted Magic" for partition control. The latest version I had at the beginning was 4.8. I found that I could use 4.8 to create a layout. I then used OpenSuSE to re-format and mount the partition. All that worked fairly well, but every time I used "Parted Magic 4.8" to move or re-size a partition *after* it was installed, it would result in an "Invalid Partition Table" and the whole HDD (both Windows and OpenSuSE) would be unbootable (most likely due to an incompatibility with how Grub uses Partition Tables).

Because of this problem I ended up losing the installations over and over again, due to changes I wanted or needed in the partition layout.

Looking at the documentation for "Parted Magic 4.9" and "4.10" it appears there was a bug in it all the way from at least "4.7" throught to "4.9". So "4.10" may be the first stable version in a while. I have just started to use it and my first use -- shrinking an NTSF "C:" and creating a new Primary "D:" for Windows XP Pro seems to have worked.

Has anyone been using "Parted Magic 4.10" to modify the partitions in a dual boot Linux installation like OpenSuSE 11.2 lately?

OpenSUSE :: Add More Control Functionality Through Mouse

Mar 14, 2010

I used easystroke on ubuntu, and it worked well enough to be functional. I triend opening Xstroke in suse, but it just adds an icon down by the notification panel. right click and left click seem to turn it on and off, but i've yet to find any configuration menu of any kind. I've also found the 'input actions' section of the personal settings menu, but i'm having a hard time making heads or tails of it. Basically, what I need is pretty simple. I have a single application that I would like to add more control functionality through the mouse. I don't even necessarily need gesture control, in fact if i could just make my extra mouse buttons perform specific keyboard commands (F11, ctrl++, etc.) that would be fantastic. If I could set it to do different things on different programs.

OpenSUSE :: Severe GUI Mouse Control - KDE 4.5.x, 11.3?

Oct 5, 2010

My mouse and trackpad button control is severely impaired in 11.3, KDE 4.5.1 (or .2) using Compiz. Gnome works fine. XFCE has some problems. The mouse control of window features is sometimes limited to one window with the rest of the desktop not responding to mouse actions. Popping up a second window from an app causes the mouse control to be completely lost. The issue leaves KDE effectively broken having only keyboard control. With some ESC key hits and using right mouse button to close one app (from the panel), I can move focus to another app but mouse control within the app is non-existent. Moving windows or raising or lowering doesn't work either. Sometimes, the GUI captures the mouse click but does not recognize the active App and applies it to objects sitting on the desktop screen underneath.

I've reverted partially back to the 11.3 installation DVD then reload updates and then moved to stable release of 4.5, then went back to the 4.5 factory. All failed to correct the problem. I removed .kde/.kde4 files and this did not help. What is wrong with my system? Also installed the latest kernel of the repos then reverted back to 2.6.34.7-0.3 [x64]. [very frustrating, been using Suse/KDE for >7 yrs, this one has me stumped]

Ubuntu :: Loss Of Desktop Control (mouse And Keyboard)?

Nov 2, 2010

In the past few days Ive noticed a lot of updates. Yesterday morning several times I went to click on items on my desktop and I couldnt. I thought it was just my batteries getting weak. Yesterday afternoon it got so bad I couldnt click on anything for hours at a time. I could only power offIve been reading lots of forums and threadsd there are lots of possible problems to this but they all come down to xorg file and usb issues.

An example of one possible problem: When I have the system log open I can not move the app around, make it bigger or smaller, I can only scroll on the right pane and have to use the mouse keys to navigate the left pane. And if I want to shut the app down, sometimes I can use the ctl+F to close it but sometimes I cant. After I shut the app, any app that is, the mouse pointer turns to |< and I cant click on anything for 5 min to 5 hours. It was suggested to run sudo dpkg reconfigure phigh xserver-xorg but when I did I didnt see anything visually or in the terminal occur.

OpenSUSE Install :: Custom SuSE Distro And Yast/control.xml?

Dec 8, 2009

As a Fan of openSuSE on the Desktop i'm about to create the version 2.0 of our local LUGS munotLinux distribution which should be localized for switzerland and contain a lot of additional software.

For this case I tried to modify the control.xml file in the root image for yast to hide the dialogs for language/keyboard layout, location and deskop choice (it will be a kde based distro). I can set the language, keyboard and location defaults correctly, but I couldn't get any success in disabling the regarding dialogs yet. And after all googeling and reading the available documentation I can't find a hint about the correct way to modify the control.xml this way.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Tvtime Freezes, No Picture, No Mouse Control?

There is no picture and no sound, just a black screen that I can't control in any way. Even to close it, I have to go through the terminal.I can still get channels using Mplayer, so the tuner should not be the problem. However, t is an Hauppauge 950.I was using Lucid on both partitions. Initially, one quit, but not the other. About a month later the other quit while I was watching which makes me think it may be something I have simply hit on the keyboard. I have since upgraded to Maverick on one and reinstalled Tvtime to no avail

Fedora :: Use A Program That Uses Uinput To Inject Mouse Events To Control X Applications

May 21, 2010

In Fedora 12, I am trying to use a program that uses uinput to inject mouse events to control X applications. This worked with Fedora 9, but doesn't with Fedora 12. I see the following in my Xorg.0.log:

(II) config/hal: Adding input device Prototype IRPointer Device
(II) LoadModule: "synaptics"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so
(II) Module synaptics: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.7.1, module version = 1.2.1
Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 7.0

The device is not a synaptics touchpad, and so the X load of the driver is incorrect. But I don't know how to get X to ignore it's own driver and use evdev. (Or even if that's the right thing.) A general explanation of how hal and evdev are related, for the current X server,

Debian :: Sound Not Card Configured - Error 'Volume Control Did Not Find Any Elements And/or Devices To Control" - Driver

Feb 8, 2011

Laptop is Dell Latitude C600/C500 with Pentium III 850Mhz, 256Kb L2 Cache, 256MB RAM, ATI M3 video card, HD 20005 MB and sound card is EES Maestro 3i. After trying to do something with Windows 2000 which was installed on the machine, I decided to put Linux without keeping windows on the machine. First I try with Xubuntu (latest version) which was working but slowly, then I found that Debian could work fine on that machine. I have installed latest version 5.08 and was surprised how goodly old machine can work. I solved problems with screen resolution (change from 800x600 to 1024x768) but I couldn't find solution how to fix problem with sound.

Actually I don't have sound on the machine. I looked for a linux driver for that sound card and Dell is only providing windows drivers. Then I found that I can solve the problem with ALSA drivers but I couldn't find the easy way (or any way at all) to install drivers and to get back the sound. When I click on 'Volume Control' (top right corner of the screen) I get the message: 'Volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.'
