OpenSUSE Network :: Setting Up Print Drivers In Samba?
Apr 26, 2011i'm trying to add windows print drivers to smb for them to be automatically downloaded to the client upon printer installation. I've followed the samba.org Printing documents which have been helpful to some degree. I have an HP printer and i'd like to just upload and register the .inf,.dll.cab files that the manufacture cd comes with for the client to use the .inf file to install the drivers from that location but i keep getting Werr_invalid_PARAM
here is the syntax of what i'm trying to do.

OpenSUSE Network :: Setting Up A Home File/print Server?
Aug 24, 2010I would like to build a server to act as a file/print server for my home. My wife, sister in law, and myself would use it. I would like it to be friendly to both windows and linux. My sister and I are both dual boot and for now my wife is windows only. Pretty soon though I plan on setting her up on linux as well. What would I need? And are there any "good" guides to setting something like this up?
I would like to use the system to:
- Store media / files
- Maybe have KMyMoney on it and share with the wife
- Hook a printer to and use as common printer

Sep 27, 2009I am demo'ing Kubuntu 9.04 workstation to a customer. He has a CentOS 5.3 server (my doing). On it is our CUPS Network file server. Everyone (65 of them) print to our network printer through it using LPR/LPD (and sometimes Samba).
Problem: when Kubuntu's Print Configuration Tool went looking for printers, it found every network printer's IP address, but missed my CUPS printer server. What did I do wrong on one or both ends (I have control over both).

Oct 24, 2009I am trying to learn about networking and am looking to set up a mini network between three bare bones Centos machines in Virtualbox. I set up the machines with a static IP. In the Virtualbox I am using NAT and have the IPs as follows
Centos-1
IP: 10.0.2.15
Gateway: 10.0.2.2
DNS: 10.0.2.3
Centos-2
IP: 10.0.2.16
Gateway: 10.0.2.2
DNS: 10.0.2.3
Centos-3
IP: 10.0.2.17
Gateway: 10.0.2.2
DNS: 10.0.2.3
On all machines i can ping google.com, and yum updates, but I can not ping any other machine. It says they are unreachable. NOt really sure what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

ageing
fd and stp seems to be passed by DELAY=0 and STP=on the others? I have not found anything in the post, tips, docs how could I do?

Nov 10, 2010I work in a small research lab in my college and we work on Windows. I am planning to switch all the computers into Linux create a network.
This is a small job in the first step. I need to hook up 3 computers together such that they all communicate with a central computer (server). The users will have to log on to their accounts and run their work from the central server, be able to run applications (vlsi, CAD) stuff from the server. I (as root) should be able to take backups (using crontab I guess) and be able to create new users, administer.
Can anyone direct me to a manual or a website or a previous post that goes through these steps. I searched the forums and was lost in my effort
I only have used Linux on a standalone PC and have never networked before.
General :: Setting Up A Second Monitor In Centos?
Nov 16, 2010I have CentOS installed on my laptop. I hooked up my TV via VGA and it works, just not as I'd like it to. The left side (on the tv) is cut off, like the image is justified too far left. I want it to be centered, but I also want to use a different resolution. You see, I use a netbook, and thus my laptop screen is tiny, meaning some things cant fit in the same window without scrolling. I want my TV to fix that for me.

May 10, 2010Total Newb here, sorry. I am pseudo-IT at work and have set up a desktop with Debian 5 (accidentally overwrote Windows in the process, but there you go). We are set up with network printers here (all Windows), and I was wondering how to go about being able to print to one of the network printers from my Linux desktop. Can I even connect to the Windows network with this desktop (it is hooked up)? Understand, I do NOT want to screw up anything on the network - they won't let me play anymore if I do. If I download the Linux driver, what do I do next?

May 29, 2011I am trying to setup ipv6 lan network.using Ubuntu 10.04 as DNS server.Able to resolve domain names from dns server itself but can't resolve from client machine (backtrack5). I have tried to flush iptables but still no effect; dig gives servfail error.I can ping both machines from one another.

Mar 23, 2010How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Network Manager Stuck On 'setting Network Address' Then Continuously Prompts For Hex Or ASCII Key
May 28, 2011When I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.
I'm running Opensuse 11.4 with KDE, and my driver is ath9k. I don't know much about linux so please don't tell me to 'recompile this' or 'change this setting' without explaining how to do it. Please help, I've been unable to connect to wireless in OpenSUSE for 2 weeks now.

Feb 1, 2011I have Linux SuSe 11.3 installed, the printer is Olivetti PR2, it's an old passbook printer, and the printer is connected VIA SERIAL port. When installing via CUPS, i have the option for serial port available, I am trying to use all possible drivers for the printer, e.g.:
- generic postscript drivers
- IBM Proprinter II drivers
- IBM Generic drivers
- any Olivetti drivers.
The printer is in READY status, printer seems installed in CUPS, when i try to print a test page, it creates a job, printer sets to status PROCESSING, but does nothing. No printing, no sounds from the printer self. How to check, if the printer is recognized as a device in linux, and if the data can be sent to printer at all ?

Every time I try to print an email it goes through the process of activating the print. in the print window I click "print" then I get a message "You cannot print While in print preview"
Other applications print without a problem. I can also print attachments to emails.
This has been getting worse over a period and now I can not print an email at all. Rebooted, started and stopped the Thunderbird.
