I am trying to install vodafone mobile connect 2.10 (noarch.rpm) but keep getting a python = 2.6 is needed by python-sq*. I had Python 2.6 installed and upgraded to 2.6.6, but still got the error. What could I be doing wrong or what repositories are short on my openSuse 11.0 to have the installation work. I downloaded the correct version of vodafone for my system.

He was having problems with python and python-devel complaining about conflicting versions or some such when he was updating with yum. I told him (yes, a little of this is my fault) to try removing and reinstalling python and/or python-devel. Little did I know... He ran "yum remove python" and it listed over 600 (!) dependent packages to remove as well. Without telling me THAT part he clicked "y" and then watched as yum removed python and all sorts of other stuff (including yum--how's that for irony?) .
I have to go deal with this situation tomorrow morning but he has so blown away this system I almost don't know where to start. Sure I could re-download the rpm of python and reinstall, it but then I'd still have to one-by-one reinstall all the other rpms that were blown away by the python removal with yum. I do take at least partial responsibility for this. But really? 600+ packages and he clicked "y"? Yeesh. Oh, it's a RHEL 5 machine.
I am currently trying to upgrade over 100 rpms on multiple Red Hat servers. Whenever I try to do a rpm -u /packages/*.rpm i recieve a failed dependencies error on the very first rpm. I know that I can go though each rpm one by one and trace each dependency but that will take forever. Is there a way to skip these errors? I know the -nodeps command for rpm but I dont want to screw something up but running all of these rpms on -nodeps
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just finished upgrading the last of 3 machines from F10 to F12 using preupgrade (all i686). Except for a non-critical hplip issue, all went well with the first two machines upgraded 1 week and 3 days ago, but some python F10->F12 updates were missing on the third machine that I upgraded yesterday, leaving yum inoperable. Thanks to good yum error messages, I was able to resolve the problem (I think), but I thought I should post to check if mine is a unique or common problem, to enquire if it may have resulted from some of the python packages being in "update transit" in the repositories, and/or whether something like this can be avoided in future? Details follow:
Upgrade appeared to go well except for some dejavu font dependency issues (experienced on all three machines) and libcrypto.so.7 missing for eet-1.2.2-4... (third machine). However, there was a boot message that some python module (can't remember which) was not present for some nvidia requirement, although video driver worked fine. When testing yum: First it complained that libpython2.6.so.1.0 was not present. Since that module conflicted (identified by rpm) with various python 2.5.*f10 packages that that were still on board, I copied libpython2.6.so.1.0 (from a current f12 rpm) into /usr/lib manually. Second, yum complained that urlgrabber was not available, so rpm with the latest python-urlgrabber for f12 solved that.
Third, yum complained that pycurl was not available, so rpm with the latest python-pycurl solved that. Yum now works! and boot message is gone! I ran "yum install python-libs" to make sure that any necessary dependencies were met following my manual installation of libpython2.6.so.1.0, which resulted in a bunch of python dependencies being upgraded as a result.

i am having a issue installing php-oci8. I am using a cesntos 5.5 OS

My set up is internal hard drive Windows 7, external Ubuntu Karmic. The reason I have it this way, despite Linux being my main OS, is because my internal hard drive is 6 years old and half the capacity of my external new one. Have tried quite a few set ups with various Linux platforms, but have finally settled on above. As yet, I don't know Linux or Ubuntu all that well. Getting somewhere, but it's a steep learning curve.
Because of constant errors reinstalling WinXP - umpteen installations and it keeps crashing - the problems are with security updates and SP3 - I finally bit the bullet and intalled Win 7. I only need Windows for a few essential programs or I'd happily never look at it again, so it filled me with horror doing this, but I couldn't take the crashes any more. So, today, Win 7 installs just nicely. However, I can no longer boot my external Ubuntu hard drive. The error is, 'Grub loading stage 1.5... Grub loading please wait... Error 15'. I load up the live cd, but when I try to follow instructions given to other people with Error 15 (editing files, accessing root) I don't have permissions.

I've recently got this error coming up when I try to install things via yum through the terminal. It happens when I try to install *anything* at all. I'm running 32bit Fedora 14, although my laptop is 64 bit.

I'm new to Linux and am trying to install libcurl to use in my c++ code on my fedora 14 system. I went to the libcurl site and downloaded the binary package for Redhat Linux 7.2 on i386. There was no download for Fedora.It was an .rpm package and so I used rpm -i libcurl4-7.21.7-1.i386.rpm to install it.
I received the following errors:

Never mind, I just did a yum install libcurl and it worked out......
yum is pretty amazing.
I try to install git packages, when I type ./configure it gives me the error:
