General :: Print Email From Getmail To Cups Printer?
Oct 25, 2010
I have a mail-account, which is checked every 10. Minute for new mails (via getmail), printed(via cups/lpr) and the file is deleted if successful.
My problem is that I dont want to print the texthtml, but what it looks like when rendered.
What is the best way of doing this ? html2ps or ?
Is it also possible to print the attachments( PDF) inside the mail, this way ?

I am hard time printing to one particular Canon IR8500 printer Red hat.WE are using CUPS to manager around 30 printers.when I try to start the printer from CUPS, it comes back immediately to Printer State: Stopped, accepting jobs..After I delete it and redefine it, the status says Idle, but as soon as I submit a job, the status change to 'Stopped'.

I did System -> Printing -> Help -> Troubleshoot
Got: CUPS Service Stopped
The CUPS printer spooler does not appear to be running. To correct this choose

There is not "Services there"

I noticed that a bit after I had updated Ubuntu 10.04 through the Update Manager, I couldn't print at all! (I run ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop and have a networked HP Officejet 6110xi all-in-one printer connected to a comp running Windows XP home on the same LAN). Everything works when I boot up in windows vista, so the problem is definitely in Ubuntu.
First, I checked the printer jobs and it said that there was an error with a filter or something. Restarting the job didn't do squat, so I decided to try reinstalling my printer, but get the same CUPS error "error-client-not-possible" right after I click "Apply". I then Googled the issue but didn't find much of anything, so I thought I'd try reinstalling CUPS. No luck there either... Same error again and again.

My setup is like this: i have a small office network and i bought yesterday a new multifunctional printer Samsung SCX-4521F. It is shared with samba and connected to the server with USB. In the network everyhing works well, users can log on to the domain, print from windows to the new shared Samsung printer and i even managed to enable network scannin. But when i try to print from MS DOS i wont get a single page. We have an accounting program in dos. All the other computers are XP Pro SP3. My server is running for 2 weeks the newest CentOS with all updates. I'v maped the network printer in windows witht the command "net use LPT1 \ServerSCX-4521F. I get a message that maping was completed succesfully. If i start a print job nothing happens. "Printing" or "warming up" flashes several times on the printer and thats it.
CUPS error log:
I [02/Apr/2009:00:03:45 +0300] Adding start banner page "none" to job 125.
I [02/Apr/2009:00:03:45 +0300] Adding end banner page "none" to job 125.

I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.
Code:
# Show troubleshooting information in error_log.
LogLevel debug

Not sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed.The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

I have cups 1.4.1 on ubuntu that act as print server that receive print request from Oracle Applications 11i on hp-ux and sends them to windows clients.
Clients printers are from different vendors like Samsung, HP and Kyocera.
Some printers print request with Cover Page with content of "job-id job-name job-originating-user-name job-originating-host-name job-billing" like Samsung ML-2250 or HP Laserjet 1100
but in Kyocera print without banner.

Im trying to set up a print server using Fedora 12 and CUPS.
It recognized the printer, and i can print from the linux box. When i try to install it on my Win 7 64-bit box i can install the printer itself by giving it the IP address and port number of the linux box but i cant sent anything to it to print. I apologize im a little rough on the details, im not at home right now. I believe the printer i have is a HP PSC 1500. I opened the cups port on the linux firewall, and i shared the printer through the cups admin browser page.

Since last few weeks i am struggling to setup printer connected to print server.
Here is the setup that i have:
I have Red Hat Linux machine from which i want to issue print jobs.
I have Windows Print Server having multiple printers connected to it.
I am able to print jobs from Windows client to any of these printers. But i am not able to print from Red Hat Linux. (i have verified that i can print using smbclient utility, but based on my reading, CUPS API could be used from application to discover, print and issue print jobs.)
I am not able to get the correct configuration for setting up CUPS client.

I have installed centos 5 and can print small to medium lpr files using cups fine (1 to 20 pages), but when i tried to print a file of 95 pages the printer just stops, I have to power off the printer and turn it back on and it will start printing again. It looks like some data is lost in this process. It may print 20 pages and stop. When restarted it may print 20 or 40 or complete the report.I can print to the devicectly and it works fine. It is only when the large print jobs are run through the spooler.I have tried on different printers and the same results, that's what makes me think it is a spooler problem.

I am running Slackware 13.1 64bit and the cupsd config is the one pretty much the default. I can connect to it from my browser at http://localhost:631 and play around with the options with no problem. I have been following a previous post on configuring a PDF printer [URL]. I am at the point of using lpadmin on the command line to create the pdf printer with the adobe distiller ppd file. When I try to do so it just hangs and eventually I get a connection timeout. When I do an lpinfo -v I get the same thing. If I try lpinfo -h localhost:631 the request returns immediately with nothing. I tried to create the PDF printer through the cups web ui but I did not get far.

I'm running Red Hat Linux and CUPS 1.2.4. I can print a test page to a Win 7 shared printer ok. However, when I issue the lpr command from a user or root, it won't print. The CUPS message is "Remote host did not accept data file (1)" and the job just hangs till I cancel it. The only thing I can tell that is different is that when the test page from CUPS is generated, it uses user "guest". When I try to print it using the lpr command, the user is "eddie" or "root". I tried adding a user account named "eddie" to the Win 7 box, I can print successfully from both CUPS and users on several other Win XP boxes.

I have a client.conf in /etc/cups that points to a CUPS server. I don't have u/p access to this server. I also want to print to a local printer (USB), but I can't set it up - ALL attempts bring me back to the CUPS server password prompt. Is there some line I can add to the client.conf to allow me to use a local printer?

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

If not issue with copy-right is it possible to have complete copy. Also I haven't seen in PDF form, I just need to copy so I can reference without having to be on computer.

I'm trying to get GS to print to network Windows printer, but somehow fail to do so . I managed to print through CUPS to that printer but if I use GS with -sDEVICE=cups nothing happens, nothing is printed, CUPS logs remain unchanged... I also found command using smbclient (gs ... | smbclient //machine/printer -U user ... -c 'printmode graphics;print-') but that one fails with "session setup failed: NT_STATUS_REQUEST_NOT_ACCEPTED" Here is why I need it, so maybe you know better way: We need to print thousands of PDF files in one print job (to prevent anybody else to send something else in while we are printing this). I was trying to develop small C program using GS API to achieve this but somehow I fail on something as trivial as print something on shared network printer.

My question is what to type under the [destination] paragraph. I don't know what type mailbox Alpine uses and where the INBOX is located, that is where Getmail should deliver the mail?

I have an old desktop that I'm trying to set up as a home backup/print server. Backup was trivial, but am having issues getting the printing to work. The printer is connected to the server running Ubuntu Server 9.10 (no gui). If I access the printer via http://hostname:631/printers/, I am able to print a test page, so I know the printer is working; however, I am having no luck from Windows. Windows can see the printer when browsed via hostname, but I am unable to connect. Windows says "Windows cannot connect to the printer" without indicating why.
From /etc/samba/smb.conf:
[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
dns proxy = no
security = user

I can't print pdf files from the Ubuntu PDF viweer on my printer - I get a message that 'pdftorasterfailed'. My workaround is to print to file then print the postscript file. Annoying but it works. I did some searching and this is a known bug in cups for Ubuntu 10.04. The first thing I tried was a system update, that did update cups but it still fails. I found this link:

and have the patch files, but how do I apply them?

I have a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 and my basement computer running Windows 7. I want to be able to access files on on both computers from either. I also want to be able to print from my laptop to the printer attached to the basement computer. I finally got printing working. Then I tackled the filesharing. I finally get filesharing working and now, I can't get printing working again, even though I've gone back to the version of smb.conf that I had when I was able to print. So here is what I've got.
<->testparm
Testparm results.txt
<-> Printer State
When I look at my printer properties in Ubuntu I see the status: Idle - Unable to connect to CIFS host after (tried 3 times) Cups Error Log When I look at the Printer Error Log, I see: (partial) Printer log extract.txt I can ping the IP address of the windows box 192.168.0.5, but when I try to ping the name owner-pc it fails. This would lead me to beleive that the there is a name resolution problem.
