I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 netbook to 10.10 netbook and I want to go back to 10.04. Adding to the problem, I have this computer dual booted with Windows XP. Is it possible to do this somehow?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running a recently installed minimal install. I am having some fun building the system up but trying to keep things slim. I have installed the ATI catalyst drivers working from the tutorial here under 'Installing the Restricted Drivers Manually': [URL]... After successfully getting the ATI driver running, I realise I really don't need or want it and am wanting to uninstall it completely and return the config to the way it was. Some of that I can do with the aid of some of the links I have found but installing the ATI drivers no doubt killed some of the packages that were there in the first place (graphics was fine in the first place incidentally). Question: What might these squashed packages be so I can reinstall them and have graphics setup as it was before I installed the ATI drivers and how can I remove all trace of the ATI drivers?
View 8 Replies View RelatedRunning Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm trying to re-install Mac OSX back onto my MBP. I'm running competely off of GRUB and I have no other partitions for any other OSs running. Popped in my MAC OS CD and came up with this error.

How should I go about with removing Ubuntu, and re-installing MAC OSX?
I'm on Slackware 13 and use XFCE (no KDE or QT) as my DE and Exaile as my music player. I try and install all my software using slackbuilds. Recently I came to know that Exaile 0.3.1.0 was out and so decided to upgrade from my current 0.3.0.1 . So I downloaded the source package and the slackbuild, and after changing the version number in the Slackbuild script, went ahead with the installation. The install went fine but exaile wont start up as the new version required a newer version of gtk+.
Since, I was not ready to invest my time in that, I uninstalled the newer version through pkgtool. I had the precompiled library left from my previous 0.3.0.1 install so, I installed it using installpkg. Now the problem is that when try to launch exaile, the splash screen shows up, but quickly disappears (this was also happening with the newer version, when it required newer gtk+). The error I am getting is:

I was having issues with the mic or line in on my onboard sound card, while trying to get my tvtuner patched in, later I gave OSS a try, I could not get it to work and decided to go back to Alsa, now my soundcard is not functioning.I have followed quite a few different guides, one of which is the sticky, please forgive me for not remembering which guides. I'm going nuts over this.As you can see below it looks like it is still using the oss driver.

So I recently installed openSUSE KDE (latest build, don't know the number?). total linux noob, been a windows user all my life. right now i'm dual-booting between win 7 and opensuse KDE. i originally alotted for a parsley 10gb only to use as a backup whenever my windows inevitably starts having problems and i have no access or means to repair it/ use as a secure place to scan my windows partition and external drives for viruses. i want to expand my opensuse partition.
so my problem is this: i have a 200gb windows partition, a 15 gb partition (U) i set up to do file swapping cross-os (which i couldnt figure out how to work, btw. formatted it in FAT32). and my 10 gb suse partition (O). i tried using the built-in KDE partition manager to shrink or completely do away with U, and expand the suse partition. the problem is my suse partition is ecapsulated by an extended partition, whatever that is, and suse has its own 1.5 gb "swap" partition. after shrinking U i tried expanding O, but it said i was already at max size. tried expanding extended, also didnt work, same goes for the 1.5 gb suse swap partition.
i read in another post that i could do the resizing via some sort of bootable disc, the only problem is that i have no access to cd or dvd blanks, and i have no usb thumb drives just 2 external hd's - 1tb and 250gb. so how can i go about expanding my opensuse partition? the easiest way i could think of is to just reformat/repartition from windows, and reinstall opensuse from my boot dvd. only problem with that is i cant SEE my suse partition from windows...
i imagine i could also just boot from the dvd and run the installer again, and use the partitioner built into the installer, but i didn't really feel comfortable with it the first time around. im know my way around a computer but all of a sudden it blindsided me with a ton of options i know nothing about, it was a little too complicated.
I use slackware 13.1-current on desktop with 4gb ram, nvidia geforce 210, and AMD cpu.
I have problem with my X starting using 40-50 MB of RAM and after some hours suddenly rises up to 400-500 MB. I have tried KDE ( with and without desktop effects ), LXDE, 3 different nvidia drivers ( the one made from the slackbuilds ) but no luck.
I decided at last to use the default slackware's driver. I uninstalled the nvidia driver and do startx, but it says code...
I have no idea about GPU and drivers, it was a mistake to install a driver for my nvidia just to have desktop effects. I just want to bring the things back as at the beginning of the systems installation and the default drivers.
Do you have any idea how to do it?
I seem to have lost my show desktop widget. There is just the red x as shown in the screen cap. I did try to uninstall and reinstall it but no luck. Does anyone know how i can get it back?

Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...

Is it possible to reinstall the games package or reinstall the update?I'm thinking more of the lines of a system restore or something so back 2 days from today.
I cannot uninstall Firefox, nor can I uninstall Chromium; one always stays if the other is uninstalled. For example, if I remove Firefox, Chromium will appear in its place and vice versa. The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.
For the past 2hrs I have been struggling to make KDE launch plasma-dekstop instead of plasma-netbook, but all in vain.I removed, then purged plasma-netbook and plasma-netbook-default-settings packages but after logging out and re-logging in the Netbook UI was back! After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?

I installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 and immediately noticed the keyboard of my eeepc 1000HE was abnormally warm. Since I dual boot XP I booted to XP and found the fan running faster to compensate for the previous heat. This did not happen on Ubuntu-the fan just was barely running. I had to place the side of the netbook in order to feel the fan running. I issued "sensors" in terminal and it showed 67 degrees C for the cpu temp. Is the latest Ubuntu such a resource hug that it heats up the CPU?

I have reinstalled windows 7 and now i can't boot ubuntu i've tried easybcd to add ubuntu to win boot loader which failed and tried to follow the instructions to reinstall grub through a live cd which i am in at the moment. i go to a terminal and type sudo grub and it brings up the grub prompt. i have mounted all discs and entered the command find /boot/grub/stage1 and it keeps spitting this back at me Error 15: File not found

However I did have to run windows for some things so Dual booting was a perfect set up. However, recently my windows messed up and I had to reinstall it. Now when I start my computer I don't have the option to boot Ubuntu and I can only run vista. My hard drive is still partitioned so I'm pretty sure Ubuntu is still there, just unaccessable.Do you guys(or girls) have any ideas on how I can boot Ubuntu without having to reinstall?
