I must use have my time configured for my VPN to work? I have an NTP configured also but can't just place what seems to be wrong that my routers in different locations doesn't all synchronize with my vpn server.

The reason being is that my router is assigning internal ip's and dyndns is linked to that. I need port 80 for the Apache server, but if I have the router forward that port to my particular ip, won't it screw with everyone else's internet too?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have sendmail running on my centOS 4.6. My lamp server also runs on it. I want to send mail through php mail function. when i execute php page, which fires the mail function, it takes so much long tim1 say even 1 minute, and at last displays that message sent successfully. Suppose, destination address is [URL].... I did not get any mail there. My server is running in LAN. I checked the status of sendmail, it shows me that it ios running. when i issue "nmap localhost" it shows me that SMTP port 25 is open, but when i issue "nmap myserver" (192.168.1.20 myserver ( written in hostfile)), it does not show that SMTP port is open.
I checked the /var/log/maillog, one person in my previous post advice me to see that. There it shows that message is accepted for delivery...but i do not get any mail in my destination, even not in spam folder. One more confusion is that, in my case my server is in LAN and if I am at all enable to open the SMTP port on it, does i need to open SMTP port on my router (which connects my LAN to internet) also needs to open? I think no, because SMTP is application layer protocol, it will wrap my mail in IP packet, which router just need to forward. am i right?
I've discovered Firefox Sync a while ago, and it's absolutely awesome. Now of course I'd like most of my software to work this way! So is there a way to get the same behavior with Thunderbird?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop and a desktop PC, both running Ubuntu 10.04 and both are configured the same way. I am using Unison-gtk to sync the data between both computers... This works for everything... except for my mysql databases. Any way to simply sync my mysql databases on both computers. Right now I need to do this table-per-table... and it is quite long to proceed like this. What I need is a script or a program (open and preferably free) that would just compare both databases (all the tables) and sync them either by updating existing tables or by creating them. This should work both ways... obviously. I could write a script for this, but I am sure there already is something for this out there.

I'm having trouble keeping NTP synchronized and able to provide time updates to other devices on the private network. I believe this is because the server has a too large of offset, that causes all NTP clients syncing through the server to fail.
I have two setups, one working, one failing, with mostly identical installation and settings.
Setup A is the working setup, as I will name it, is ubuntu server edition 8.04 with kernel 2.6.33.1. ntpd version is 4.2.4p4.

I have a folder on my workstation and I currently have an identical copy on my nas mounted via ifs (I'll be using this as my backup). The folder contains many virtual machines that are usually powered off. I like to think of the copy on my nas as a backup. The benefit of having two copies of my vms is that if I boot up too many on my workstation and the drive starts to cause a bottle neck I can simply boot the vms from the nas instead. (gigabit ethernet)
I would like changes I make to my local copy to be reflected on the nas.
I want this to happen In the background, I.e. If I turn off my machine it shouldnt cause a problem, the next time I boot up it just re checks the files and continues syncing the 2 directories.
What is the best tool for the job? Rsync?
I've never really used it before so a few pointers to get me going would be great, or obviously other recommendations if there are any.
What configuration options in /etc/ntp.conf do I have to set to allow other computers to receive time from a ntpd server? I've tried removing "nopeers" and "noquery" from the restrict lines, but I can't see anything on port 123.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a file server with two RAID volumes. The one in question is 6 1TB SATA drives in a RAID6 configuration. I recently thought one drive was becoming faulty, so I removed it from the set. After running some stress tests, I determined my underlying problem hadn't cleared up. I added the disk back, which started the resync. Later on, the underlying problem caused another lock up. After a hard-reboot, the array will not start. I'm out of ideas on how to kick this over.

I recently started using a router for I wanted to connect to net even with n900. I've tried to open the port from the setup page of the router however it doesn't seem to work. (find below the screenshot of setup page).
I've tried to ssh through slackware I've got as a virtual machine and I have the same problem although I was able to ssh through slackware before I started using the router.
I'd like for the server (10.04) to keep samba passwords and unix passwords "in sync"; i.e. when a user changes his unix password (via passwd), his Samba password is automatically changed to match the unix password. Similarly, when a user changes his samba password (via smbpasswd), then his unix password is changed to match. smb.conf seems to make provision for this; following are the applicable entries from my smb.conf:

Pc #2 is a windows xp pc another place at the internet.I have configured the zyxel router to forward incomming trafic on port 5902 to the local ip-adress of the debian box. The debian box is running a vnc server, listening on port 5902.But i dosn?t work.I have tryed to scan the zyxel routers ipadress on port 5902 from the internet, but the scanner says that the port is closed.The vnc server on pc #1 is working fine on the local network. I can connect to the server from a pc on the same side of the zyxel router.Is it deffenitly a router problem, or could it have something to do with debians own firewall?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?
I've got Ubuntu One syncing a single 25MB folder on 4 computers. On one of these computers, the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process constantly pegs the CPU, using from 50-80% long after any sync-able files have been modified and successfully synced. The process is only using 8.9MB of RAM.
Specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic
1000.8 MB RAM
Pentium 4 2.53GHz
Free disk space: 280.9 GB
System monitor shows 56.8% total RAM usage, 15.4% swap file usage.
Audio sync method. "Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?
It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner?What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic?No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio.So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place?No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my Linksys wireless adapter (WUSB11 V2.6) to work under kubuntu /ubuntu.
I am still not able to connect. I believe that I am overlooking or not understanding something.
This is a walk-through of steps I have taken. I can post log files or command outputs as needed.
lsusb shows my adapter, I checked at one point and saw the log file said it needed the firmware from at76c503a.berlios.de so I downloaded the at76_usb-firmware.tar.gz file and copied the at76c503-rmfd.bin file to /lib/firmware and ran chmod 755/ chown root:root as the instructions said.
I then ran rmmod -f at76c50x_usb followed by at76c50x_usb. iwconfig now shows my linksys adapter as wlan1. I use ifconfig to bring the interface up and then set the essid (not hidden) with iwconfig. I then use dhclient to try and get a dhcp address, but no luck.
I have tried setting the wireless mode to managed and setting the ap with the cell address of my wireless router. Still no luck. I continue to the get dhcp no offers report.
I have read that I need to shutdown network-manager if configuring by hand. I did this with service network-manager stop. it doesn't seem to get an address either after this.
Checking the output of messages, kern.log and syslog I get wlan1: link not ready and if I set the ap by hand. I get that it can not associate
Here are some other things that I have noticed and wonder if it is a problem:
lshw shows my wlan1 interface, it shows a loaded driver but gives firmware = N/A (this is after copying the firmware file to /lib/firmware) (log files seem to indicate firmware version)
After setting the ap manually with iwconfig, iwconfig output still shows that the access point is not associated. I am not sure if it is supposed to show the cell address after manually setting it or only if it is connected to the router.
I am running kubuntu 10.10 and I am trying to connect to an open router.
I've recently been taking a look at my router settings and I've realized i have my vnc port open for some reason. I don't know how or why it got opened because I've only used vnc within my private lan. Anyway, the problem is I couldn't figure out how to close that port on my router, so I just uninstalled all the vnc software from my computer so it wouldn't act like a vnc server for anybody trying to access it from the outside. So, effectively, I cannot vnc into my computer from outside my private lan, but when i port scan my public ip, the vnc port still appears open.
I'm wondering if there's something i'm missing. I'm sure it must be something in the router that I haven't figured out... something that's keeping port 5900 open.
I have a linksys router in my basement and physical access is pretty much blocked by a stuck trap-door. I could try to shut off the main power switch, but I like to see that as a last resort. The problem I have is that I have an open (no encryption) wifi connection between my pc and linksys router, yet I cannot connect to it. Until a couple of days ago I could connect to it with my android handheld device, my linux laptop, and my windows desktop. All these devices are now unable to connect. I attached the wicd log from my linux laptop. How to gain access to my router again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWithin the documentation of example OpenVPN setups there is a setup that shows an OpenVPN Server with two network interfaces. One interfaces is plugged into the public internet network and the second interface is plugged into the private network.
Normally I assume that it would be best to place the OpenVPN system inside the network behind the router and firewall and open only the ports needed on the router to allow access to the OpenVPN system. If one were to use the two interface public facing setup, when would that setup best be justified? I guess if you didn't want to open any ports on the router/firewall then this could be justified but then you have to lock down this public system individually instead of having it protected by the network firewall.
i have a problem with my new router and ubuntu 10.10. The problem is that my internet connection show me that my laptop had connect to internet but my browser can't open a website ( this problem is the same with my netbook ) to fix it always must turn it off and after on either it never makes.
