Ubuntu Networking :: Open Port 22 In The Router?

Dec 16, 2010

I have an n900 phone and I'm trying to ssh to my desktop but I'm getting an error:

ssh: connect to host 58.xx.xx.xx port 22: Connection refused

I recently started using a router for I wanted to connect to net even with n900. I've tried to open the port from the setup page of the router however it doesn't seem to work. (find below the screenshot of setup page).

I've tried to ssh through slackware I've got as a virtual machine and I have the same problem although I was able to ssh through slackware before I started using the router.

Networking :: Unable To Open Port In Router Or Firewall?

Jan 26, 2010

I am trying to make a vnc connection from pc #2 to pc #1. Pc #1 is a debian pc behind a zyxel router (P-2602HW-D1A). Pc #2 is a windows xp pc another place at the internet.I have configured the zyxel router to forward incomming trafic on port 5902 to the local ip-adress of the debian box. The debian box is running a vnc server, listening on port 5902.But i dosn?t work.I have tryed to scan the zyxel routers ipadress on port 5902 from the internet, but the scanner says that the port is closed. The vnc server on pc #1 is working fine on the local network. I can connect to the server from a pc on the same side of the zyxel router. Is it deffenitly a router problem, or could it have something to do with debians own firewall?

Server :: Open SMTP Port On Router (which Connects LAN To Internet) Also Needs To Open?

Apr 14, 2010

I have sendmail running on my centOS 4.6. My lamp server also runs on it. I want to send mail through php mail function. when i execute php page, which fires the mail function, it takes so much long tim1 say even 1 minute, and at last displays that message sent successfully. Suppose, destination address is [URL].... I did not get any mail there. My server is running in LAN. I checked the status of sendmail, it shows me that it ios running. when i issue "nmap localhost" it shows me that SMTP port 25 is open, but when i issue "nmap myserver" (192.168.1.20 myserver ( written in hostfile)), it does not show that SMTP port is open.

I checked the /var/log/maillog, one person in my previous post advice me to see that. There it shows that message is accepted for delivery...but i do not get any mail in my destination, even not in spam folder. One more confusion is that, in my case my server is in LAN and if I am at all enable to open the SMTP port on it, does i need to open SMTP port on my router (which connects my LAN to internet) also needs to open? I think no, because SMTP is application layer protocol, it will wrap my mail in IP packet, which router just need to forward. am i right?

Ubuntu Security :: Router Has Open 5900 Port And Can't Close It?

Dec 19, 2010

I've recently been taking a look at my router settings and I've realized i have my vnc port open for some reason. I don't know how or why it got opened because I've only used vnc within my private lan. Anyway, the problem is I couldn't figure out how to close that port on my router, so I just uninstalled all the vnc software from my computer so it wouldn't act like a vnc server for anybody trying to access it from the outside. So, effectively, I cannot vnc into my computer from outside my private lan, but when i port scan my public ip, the vnc port still appears open.

I'm wondering if there's something i'm missing. I'm sure it must be something in the router that I haven't figured out... something that's keeping port 5900 open.

Ubuntu Networking :: Router Port Forwarding For Ssh

Aug 22, 2010

I have logged into my router and set up port-forwarding on port 22. I can log into the machine fine from a machine on the local network using the machines internal IP but when I try to log on from a remote machine using my router's external IP or my DyDNS host-name I get a message saying "connection refused" or "connection timed out." I have configured port-forwarding on the router and the firewall rules says that port 22 is open but when I nmap my routers external ip it says that only port 23 and 80 are open. I am very new to linux and networking.

Ubuntu Networking :: SSH Server And Router Port Forwarding

Aug 29, 2010

I'm trying to get my SSH server I set up on my home box working from behind a router. A 2wire 2700HG-B gateway, in fact. Now, I know my server is working fine, because I can get into it via loopback, anywhere inside the LAN from another machine, OR if I go into the router's config and enable DMZ for the machine. However, I don't like having DMZ on all the time because of the kludge-ness of it, and the security issue of the complete absence of a hardware firewall. If I try to port forward and access it from outside the LAN using the external IP (or my DynDNS, because it's dynamic), it just times out. I have a nonstandard port (45) for the listen port of the server, to keep away hack attempts if I were using the standard 22. I used this to see if the port was open, and it said it was. But, I tried the trick of telnetting the IP with that port, and it also timed out, instead of printing stuff about OpenSSH.

Attached is a screenie of my router's firewall page, so you all can look at it and see if I'm an idiot and doing it wrong. You might notice uTorrent there, it's because this machine is a dual-boot with 7, and the router doesn't differentiate the OS's. Also the SSH @ 46 port is for the Windows side, with freeSSHd. I changed the port on that one so the client I have can distinguish them, so it can run a reachability test.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Access Internet On 4 Port Ethernet Router

Mar 1, 2010

I changed to a 4 port ethernet router (D-Link DSL-2542B Adsl2+)with intention to share Internet access with my brother (he's on Vista).Initially it all went well, but 3 days ago there were connection problems occured on the part of the ISP. Without realized the problem,I had reset the router. This morning I've been informed by the ISP that the connection has been re-established.So,I accessed the Internet via the 4 port router but failed to do so (server not found).Suspecting that the problem was from the 4 port router,I reverted to my old Adsl router (DSL-520B single port) and without any problem I managed to access the Internet back.I really need help to configure back the 4 port ethernet router to its initial state.

Networking :: Router - How To Find Port Number For Web Management

Aug 1, 2010

I enabled D-Link (DSL-502T) router web management (I am aware of security implication). I was able remotely to login to the router (by typing http://23.45.xx.6y) before changing the default number 80. Then I changed the port number from the default value 80 to 21908 (https option is not available) for better security, and when I tried to login to the router by typing this :

http://23.45.xx.6y:21908

Yes I am aware that if I am physically near to the router then I can check that , but this is not the case with me. How can I make sure that I had changed port number form 80 to 21908? Does NMAP do a trick to reveal which port is used for web management ? or are there other better options?

Ubuntu Networking :: Router : No Connection After Modifying Port Forwarding Settings

Sep 2, 2010

what I have: Belkin G Wireless Router Model F5D7234-4. To attempt to get Subsonic working, I changed the port forwarding settings (Belkin calls it Virtual Servers) to forward port 4040 to my desktop computer. I then saved changes, and my wireless disconnected. I waited about 3 minutes, and nothing was happening, so I restarted my router. This left me in the position that I am in now. Even when the router and modem are fully booted, the router does not broadcast my SSID. In addition, a wired connection will not connect to the network through the router. This leaves me completely unable to use wireless, and unable to change any settings in the router.

Networking :: Port Forwarding - Router - Ssh Requests Time Out - Tomato Firmware

May 18, 2010

I've managed to confirm that I can reach my home network via ssh from a remote location through my SMC Barricade when it is directly connected to the desktop machine but when the second router is put back into the chain ssh requests time out. The second router is a Linksys WRT 54GL running the Tomato firmware. The chain looks like this: ISP's router (bridged) --> Barricade -->WRT54GL-->desktop

The Barricade has port 22 forwarded to the Linksys' WAN address and it in turn forwards to the desktop address. It appears that it is a setting on the Linksys firmware that is preventing the remote connection. I've looked through the various settings many times but cannot see anything that would cause the problem.

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Open Port 80

May 23, 2010

I just installed apache. I didn't change the configuration files at all except add Quote: # added servername to avoid the could not determine fqdn error ServerName myname.homelinux.org to apache2.conf. Apache is working locally (I get the `it's working' screen at [URL]). However, I cannot access my computer from an external computer by going to [URL], which is equivalent to [URL] -- [IP address changed slightly for privacy] Here is a screenshot to my router settings. I disabled the filter for port 80 on the router. here shouldn't be a firewall, unless it's automatically installed with ubuntu 10.4. (sudo ufw status says `inactive'.)

I checked my ports from [URL] and indeed port 22 is open (ssh-ing into my computer externally is not a problem), whereas port 80 is closed. What step in opening up port 80 am I missing? (I also made sure my ISP isn't blocking port 80.)

Ubuntu Networking :: WUSB11 V2.6 Wireless / Connect To An Open Router?

Nov 15, 2010

I am trying to get my Linksys wireless adapter (WUSB11 V2.6) to work under kubuntu /ubuntu.

I am still not able to connect. I believe that I am overlooking or not understanding something.

This is a walk-through of steps I have taken. I can post log files or command outputs as needed.

lsusb shows my adapter, I checked at one point and saw the log file said it needed the firmware from at76c503a.berlios.de so I downloaded the at76_usb-firmware.tar.gz file and copied the at76c503-rmfd.bin file to /lib/firmware and ran chmod 755/ chown root:root as the instructions said.

I then ran rmmod -f at76c50x_usb followed by at76c50x_usb. iwconfig now shows my linksys adapter as wlan1. I use ifconfig to bring the interface up and then set the essid (not hidden) with iwconfig. I then use dhclient to try and get a dhcp address, but no luck.

I have tried setting the wireless mode to managed and setting the ap with the cell address of my wireless router. Still no luck. I continue to the get dhcp no offers report.

I have read that I need to shutdown network-manager if configuring by hand. I did this with service network-manager stop. it doesn't seem to get an address either after this.

Checking the output of messages, kern.log and syslog I get wlan1: link not ready and if I set the ap by hand. I get that it can not associate

Here are some other things that I have noticed and wonder if it is a problem:

lshw shows my wlan1 interface, it shows a loaded driver but gives firmware = N/A (this is after copying the firmware file to /lib/firmware) (log files seem to indicate firmware version)

After setting the ap manually with iwconfig, iwconfig output still shows that the access point is not associated. I am not sure if it is supposed to show the cell address after manually setting it or only if it is connected to the router.

I am running kubuntu 10.10 and I am trying to connect to an open router.

Ubuntu Networking :: Port Will Not Open Regardless Of Methods

Aug 18, 2010

No matter what I do, i cannot get port 3100 to open. This is for a new MMO i am CBT on. I know it works on windows because that is how I installed it and played. But I prefer being on Linux. Majority of all other MMOs work fine. Just this one has to have udp 3100 open.

The following is a rough output of all the methods I have tried with no success. As you can see I have done some extensive research first before posting here.

Now its become a lil bit of an obsession.

I cannot get the following command to work:

And yes I tried the "spaces" in different places thinking that was the prob. So i cannot see if 3100 is in the list or not

I eventually turned on the firewall "ufw enable" add the port there, and output:

Firewall stuff: [url]

I even manually went into the router and turned it on there.

I add these lines for startup purposes.

Do I need to do something in "wine" ?

I feel i am starting to repease myself

Networking :: Testing If A Particular Port Is Open ?

Jun 17, 2010

I would like to test myself if port 5060 is open for UDP packets.

I got a few shell accounts outside of my ISP that run Linux or different BSDs. Does someone know a common program where I could send UDP packets to port 5060 of the IP address that Virginmedia assigns to me and then I would need a program on a PC within my network who reads them _if_ they get through.

Background of all this is that my VOIP phones from two different VOIP providers are offline since last Monday.
One service provider confirmed that another VOIP client is online with the same service provider Virginmedia but in a different area.

So, while I don't know how long does it take that someone from Virginmedia can tell me if their port 5060 is open for UDP, I would like to find out myself in the meantime.
