I have a linux server that I cannot really configure. I would like to upload via web page a quite big file ( ~100MB) but the server disconnect after 10 min. Is there any kind of software that can establish the connection without getting into server cfg details? If not what can cause this disconnection?What I need a simple web site when 50 ppl can upload short movies and then watch them. It needs to run localy (no .....)

The problem is sometimes when i open the folder in nautilus , the folder keep loading forever and sometimes it shows two or three files and keep on loading . But at some other times , folder contents are displayed just as any other folder(i.e normal ).

Just for openers, I don't understand how you "open" (?) "load" (?).EXE files or make them happen.I have been using Windows all my life & to remember you just CLICK on a .exe file and it just 'happens'
Specifically, I am in Turkey and had to purchase a dongle from a Turkish phone company to access the Internet. When I insert the dongle, it shows the relevant .EXE file but when I click on it, nothing happens. No-one here knows LINUX.

when we do enter on a folder it take some time for loading the folder depending on the no of entries in the folder . If the folder has more entries it take more time to load and if less no of entries then correspondingly less time . the delay in loading the folder varies due to reading of the folder entries in advance . SO what i want to know is that what is the MAX no of entries read in advance while opening a folder in linux and also how can we calculate this

In my httpd.conf file, at the very end, I have the line
Include conf/vhosts/vhost_*.conf
However, when I run apache checkconfig or try to start apache, it gives me the error:
httpd: Syntax error on line 993 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/httpd/conf/vhosts/vhost_1.conf: Permission denied
It appears as if the Include line is correct - in terms of it grabbing the first virtual host conf file. However, I'm confused on the permissions. the /etc/httpd folder is owned by root:root, as are the subfolders. As a test, I chown'd the conf/vhost folder combination and all the vhost files to apache:apache to see if that made a difference, and it appeared to make no difference at all. The log files don't contain anything (assumed because apache isn't starting). If I place the contents of the vhosts in a singular vhosts.conf it works - with the permissions set to root:root. I'd like to avoid having to use one vhosts conf for the configuration I'm trying to achieve - as it would make my life a lot easier.
i'm using fedora 13 OS and installed web invoice application in my server. whenever i open the site, the problem on "connection to the server was reset..." is persistent. i was advised to clear the cache which i did. it work for a while but with just a few page loaded the same problem occur and i need to clear the cache. again i found a suggestion in the internet to add post_max_size = 48M file_uploads = On upload_max_filesize = 192M to the php5.ini. i also did this in my server, but the same problem occurs.

If I try to open one of these files in openOffice for Lucid, it causes OpenOffice to freeze every time. If I save the files in OpenOffice format and share them between Maverick and Lucid - everything works fine. Anyone know what might be causing OpenOffice in Lucid to freeze when loading word 97/2000 files?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've had this odd, stubborn problem that seems to be related to the nouveau video driver and certain kernel builds: opening or saving full resolution jpeg image files using GIMP takes from 1-5 minutes and causes xorg CPU usage to reach almost 100%.This also occurs when using UFRaw to open Canon raw image files. The problem is not intermittent, it happens each time I open a file. Opening photos in the default image viewer works fine.This bug has vexed me on and off for the last couple of months, and seems to be triggered by a combination of kernel version and the Nouveau driver. I switched to Debian Squeeze from Ubuntu 10.04 because I was experiencing slow image open times in Ubuntu 10.04 (using the Nouveau driver).I did not experience the bug running Squeeze with the nv driver and kernel 2.6.32-3.

I prefer the nouveau driver to nv as my display seems to behave better. The Nvidia proprietary drivers are not an option because they produce X freezes when I am doing photo editing. I did this because I'm that much of a Progress Quest geek that I wanted to have a huge group on the online server, so I decided to make a script that would open all the files for me rather than having me do it manually. I created some characters with the boring name of A1, A2, etc. When I ran the above script, it went into a continuous loop and I had to halt it, then run sudo killall pq.exe to eliminate the 500 or so Progress Quest windows that popped open. Anyway, what is wrong with my script that I can't seem to get it to stop loading files at an arbitrary number? I want to get this part finished before I make any more boring named characters.
So everytime i try and use the "yum" command. for some reason it doesn't go past this point: "loading mirror speeds from cached host files". i cleaned up the cache and rebuilt the OS again, and im still getting this problem. would this be a problem with my internet connection? I'm using CentOS 5.5.

Naturally a Windows user, because all of my computers were with pre-installed Windows and I was young.. and I get used to it..In the time of.. growing up I became programmer and learnt how bad is actually Windows coded. Not only that.. Linux has better support for developers.So.. I was Windows user till yesterday. I finally decided to work on Installing Linux or more specifically - Debian.I love everything part of the GNU - GIMP, GTK+, Gedit, GCC...
Well I can't use my PC, both of my operation systems are non-functional.Windows get stuck (which is something completely typical for Microsoft stuff) on Windows logo screen, or safe mode loading files..Debian installation is messy.Firstly I installed Debian 6.0 on a Virtual DVD Disc mounted. I followed the installation process strictly and move forward to Debian startup.It asked me for account. root as "username" and the password as "password" didn't work so I logged in as "localhost" normal user.
However.. I started to realize that I actually also had to install the Graphical Environment in order to have Debian with the desired GNOME Desktop.. I went to aptitude to install the Graphic Environment Package but it said that I have no root rights.. I tried to log-in again, using the correct details but failed.I tried to get in, using the sudo command, but the sudo command also didn't work. Of course.. since I can't install packages, I can't either install sudo."su -" or "su" also prompt me to select a password which I apparently have no clue of.
Then I went to Debian Recovery, because there I was logged as root. It also pointed out that "Root Account is locked". I went to install packages finally.. But when the installation started to proceed It asked me for disk insertion in a specific folder?There I got lost completely.
I cannot make php 5.3.3 load the zend guard loader:Extracted the tar.gz, moved the .so file in the right place, edited php.ini in the [php] section, rebooted the server and php -v says I don't have the optimiser.Quote:

I have installed Ubuntu Server 10.04 on a Dell pc without issue, but on reboot or startup from being off it doesn't load the os. It flashes error: no such disk then leaves me a blank screen with a flashing cursor. For some reason it's not seeing the drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a raid set on my computer but I have run into a small problem. it seems that the sata_promise driver is not loaded until after the md: bind has been performed. This means that my raidset will be missing some of it's discs and fail to start.
Is there any way to have the sata_promise drivers load earlier in the boot process?(more details can be found in my other post)

I am trying to set up my Apache server with FastCGI as the CGI engine. It will be mostly running PHP, but I may add Perl or something else later. I started from a completely fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 with every update available. I used the install CD to install a LAMP server as part of the system install.I am using the tutorial at URL...to add the FastCGI functionality. I am having some problems with getting everything to work.The first problem was that apache2-suexec-custom wouldn't accept a different document root. I fixed that by compiling apache2-suexec from source with the document root changed to the correct path.
The next problem is that every php page I load throws a 500 error. Apache's error logs show that FastCGI isn't returning the page data correctly to Apache.
I managed to successfully install LAMP on my VPS and proceeded to install Wordpress only to run into an odd error.When I click on index.php, it starts to load but nothing happens.
The details:
LAMP = CentOS5.5, Apache 2.2.18(compiled from source), MySQL 5.1.57(compiled from source), PHP 5.3.6(from source too) My site: ottomatic.org as you can see in the index of files index.php is what I'm trying to load and if you check phpinfo.php you can see that PHP was installed correctly too. I added an .htaccess file with 644 permissions to my web root directory and that only seemed to produce an error, this is what I put in the .htaccess:

I am running CentOS 5.2 with php5.3 and Mysql. I am running a CRM program called Sugar on the server and I am having a problem where the webpages don't always load correctly. I am not sure if this is something on the program itself or if there is a problem some or other setting on the webserver. I am accessing the server over a local network so I don't think it is connection issues. The server has a static IP.

I upgraded my Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server to 10.04 LTS - rebooted and things ran good. I knew I had a few problems, but DHCP and DNS were booting up and working fine for me.I went to take a look at Webmin, but apparently that's been removed from support for Ubuntu 10.04 - so I thought, I'll use eBox. I realized that Ebox didn't have the network module turned on, so I tried to turn it on. I found out the installation was missing scriptaculous, so I got that and installed that and then turned on the network module.I then rebooted the machine - and now nothing. It hangs when I get to the load for Apache. I would like to disable the network module for eBox, but can't find documentation for how to do that from the command line - which I have to use because the damn box won't boot and I'm running from a Live CD.
