I went to reinstall the driver once I found out that my printer had stopped working but it wont work because it says I need at least CUPS 1.2, but I have CUPS 1.4 something so something must be wrong there. This is the log report that I got after troubleshooting.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from a 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 to a 64 bit Ubuntu 10.10. Under 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04, I had a Lexmark X1290 printer working flawlessly. Now I'm trying to install this printer again on the 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10 system. I'm following the instructions from [URL].. and using the Z600 series driver from Lexmark.
Create a directory named lexmark and unpack the driver:
Code:
mkdir lexmark
tar -xvzf CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1.TAR.gz
Extract the driver from the install script:
Code:
tail -n +143 z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh > install.tar.gz

since i upgraded to natty recently the lexmark x2650 stopped printing, the scanning continues to work. I can install the driver which is offered by lexmark, but not print. I am using natty 32bit, and the driver is lexmark-inkjet-08-driver-1.0-1.i386.deb.sh.zip The error output looks like this:

I tried to install a lexmark z1300 printer, but ubuntu did not recognize it and it crashed. I got a blank screen with a cursor in the middle of the screen that was not flashing. I tried "ctrl + alt +backspase" and it did not work so i had to turnoff the computer by hand. After i turned it back on, i could no longer use vlc player. When i tried to open an .avi file i got the message shown below and i could only hear the audio. I tried to reboot with the option to repair broken packages and that only messed up my window borders (i.e. i had no option to min max or close the windows). The window border problem was solved by just rebooting the computer but vlc media player still does not work.
MESSAGE FROM VLC PLAYER: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
I want to install a Lexmark printer which for some crazy reason wants the root password. The deb installer will not take my password which has sudo privileges. I understand that Ubuntu locks the root pass, but how can I get around this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am a total noob, don't know anything about installing tar based software into my Ubuntu 10.4 set up (a Dell desktop previously running XP). I want to install a driver for my Lexmark Impact s305 multipurpose machine, using the driver the Lexmark site recommended, but have been completely unsuccessful.
Here's the software by name. lexmark-inkjet-legacy-1.0-1.i386.deb.sh.tar.gz. I extracted after right clicking on the icon, and that produced this file: lexmark-inkjet-legacy-1.0-1.i386.deb.sh. I launched that, got past the license agreement, and came up to a screen that said I needed root privileges and asked for an "administrative password."
I only have one password and entered that. It always works installing software via Synaptic or the Ubuntu Software Center, and everywhere else. Nevertheless, in trying to install this driver, I got this error message: "incorrect password." I have been unable to get around this despite repeated efforts. The installer software simply won't accept my password and so it won't install the driver.
In researching the issue, I have seen other people complain of the same problem. Given that I am a noob at this, have I missed something critical to the install? Does the software just not work (I have heard Lexmark is not too keen on Linux)?
I have seen some threads asking the same question but all the threads are old, has there been a break through allowing X5470 to work under Ubuntu linux? i dont want to use windows as it bloats my hard drive with unnecessary software.
