I have a 64 bit laptop and i am using the 64 bit version of ubuntu 10.10. i am wanting to setup a lexmark x4650 printer which has wifi built in and can do wireless printing. i have the driver from lexmark installed but it is the i386 version which i know is the 32 bit version. and i know that 32 and 64 bit versions don't work so well together. i've gone through all kinds of help on these forums and for some reason when go to print a test page, it comes back with an error statement. i will have to try it again so i can post it verbatim.
i have a similar thread in the 64 bit thread so if it can be locked or deleted and have just this one, that would be cool. this same printer is not connected to any computer for it's wireless printing ability. it is a stand alone but all of my families laptops can use it since they have the software on theirs. they are using windows 7 which is what i have also, but i am switching to linux since i am not a fan of microsoft at all. i despise everything they do. i love linux and the community around it and i just want to get this printer setup so i can make the last and final switch. this is the only thing holding me up.
My printer had been working for a long time until today. I went to reinstall the driver once I found out that my printer had stopped working but it wont work because it says I need at least CUPS 1.2, but I have CUPS 1.4 something so something must be wrong there. This is the log report that I got after troubleshooting.

I am doing work at an office that only uses Linux Ubuntu 9.10 . They have wireless printing setup on all of the computers there, except one of them isn't working. I was not the one who setup the wireless printers so I'm not clear on how to do this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI finally got around to setting up my HP Photosmart c4580 AIO printer today to print wirelessly so that I don't have to be tethered to it with a USB. I found there are many different ways of doing this, each with limited success. So I took a crack at it and this is how I got it to work. (Just an FYI, I don't think that it matters but I am running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit.) Note: I have put in screen shots of the important steps. Also, I have linked at the bottom all the relevant shots. In a terminal type
Code:
hpsetup
After pushing enter a GUI will pop open call "HP Device Manager - Setup". There are four radio buttons, I selected the "Wireless/802.11 (requires a temporary USB connection and is only available for select devices)" one and then clicked Next.
Clicking Next opens a new window for Wifi Configuration. Read what it says (Which is; after configuration setup will continue, this configuration may not work, and connect your printer to your computer by a USB cable!) Now click "Next". Assuming you haven't forgotten to plug your printer into your computer (and turn it on) you will get a "Discovered Wireless Capable Devices" list with something on it. If you do not have anything listed under "Model" and "Device URI" check all your connections and the power to your printer and click refresh. If still nothing I am sorry but this setup has failed you, but if you are lucky and something shows up, click on it and then click next. You have to have wireless internet to continue. The step you are on now has you select your wireless internet connection. Find your's and click next.
Now in the next screen you have to enter in your password for your wireless internet, then push connect. Once you connect you have now just given me access to your online banking and I am withdrawing money as you read this! I'm probably just kidding! I just wanted to make sure I haven't lost you yet. But you do want to enter your password and push enter.
After you push connect you should get a little 'progress' screen. After that is done loading you will see a screen that looks like, Now on a piece of paper or something else, write down your hostname and your IP address. After you have done that unplug the USB from your computer and click finish. Now what happens next, I could not explain. But you remember earlier the wizard said that setup would continue after configuration? Yeah well it didn't for me. And here is what it looked like.
Notice no printers available to select, and even in the terminal it shows an error. Either way, we have the information that we need to finish things up outside of this 'hpsetup' wizard. So just click cancel, close the terminal, and go back to the desktop. Now on your desktop go to System>Administration>Printing That will open a window that shows your current printer profiles. Click the add button to get a screen that looks like this,
Click the plus sign + next to "Network Printer" then click on "Find Network Printer". Now on the right half of that window there is a text box labeled "host:", enter the IP address that you copied down earlier and click the button that says "Find". Once clicking "Find" , one of two things will happen; (1)It will recognize it right away, locate the driver and take you to this screen, after clicking "forward".
or (2) It will take you to a screen showing the host name and the port number. If that happens, no big deal, just click "forward" to get the above screen. Or (3) It will not recognize the IP address that you entered. If this is the case, type in the host name you copied down earlier and click find, then click "forward" to get to the above screen. Or (4) It will not be able to locate a suitable driver. If this last scenario plays out for you then I am sorry but I don't know what to do. So lets just hope that doesn't happen. Alright now that you are on the above screen. Type in a name that you would like your computer to call your printer.
Then click "Apply". Once you click "Apply" that window will close and it will take you back to your printer list. You should notice a new printer in your lineup. Also, it is asking you if you would like to print a test page. Before you pick one, double check that your USB cable is no longer plugged in to your computer from the printer. Now, clicked "No" or "Yes". I chose "No" because test printing takes up a lot of ink. Instead of the test page I just went to my gmail and printed an e-mail. And guess what?! It worked!
I access the Internet exclusively through my Verizon-branded HTC Incredible cell phone using my Dell Latitude D800 notebook. I have a Samsung 2152-w wireless laser printer that works well through USB and works well through a wireless router.
My question is: since I use my cell as a wireless hot-spot for my notebook, is there any way to use the wireless capability of my printer? I don't know of any way to configure this, and Google hasn't been of help yet. If possible, I would like to avoid using the wireless router; I used it when I had a wired network for my old desktop.
Epson PX720WD Wireless Network Printing For setting up wireless printing for Epson PX720WD
System -> Adminstration -> Printing and click Add to select New Printer
Under Printer Type select Network Printer This will open a drop-down list. Select AppSocket/HP JetDirect
This will show two text boxes called Host: and Port: for Host: you need to put the IP address of the printer. Leave the Port: as the default 9100
You can determine the IP of the printer by pressing the Setup key on the printer, then select Network -> Network Settings -> Display Wireless Summary If the printer is currently connected to the network, it's IP address will be listed.
Enter the IP address and select Forward
Now you need to choose your printer driver.

Now you can go back to the printers box and right-click your new printer and select Make Default.
I am aware that this question has been asked before and I have also tried the solution suggested but I am still not able to figure it out why I am getting some wierd results when I am using printf with a 64 bit signed and unsigned integer in C.I am running Suse 10.2 on a Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 2 GHz.I tried to call functions strtol strtoll strtoul and strtoull with different integer sizes and these are the results i get from my program shown below:

I am a new member to this forum, as am i a new convert to the linux cause and crusade.I have a dual boot running at present with Win7 and Ubuntu 11.04 64bit i love my linux, i prefer to use it rather than Win. but my Linksys WUSB600N is really giving me the shits as it does not want to work. unfortunately i do not know enough yet about linux to be able to sort it out myself.
i have identified my hardware Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1737:0071 Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adaptor. and downloaded some drivers for the RT3572STA linux drivers but, i do not know how to install them.
I have a Gateway laptop (model MT6458 ). You'll have to bear with me, I'm very inexperienced with Linux in general and especially the command line. Previously, I was running 10.04 32bit. I wanted to give 64bit a try, so I just fresh installed 10.04 AMD64. I was able to get my wireless working in the 32 bit version as seen on this thread: [URL]. After installing the 64 bit version, I attempted following the same directions as before, but it doesn't seem to be working. Here's some of what the terminal is telling me:

I have a built in wireless card that is capable of connecting to my network on the Wireless N protocols. However it will only work at G speeds. It shows it's connection speed at 54mbps and when i set the network at N only mode it could not even connect. How do I get it to connect at the faster wireless speeds? I need the faster speeds as I have a media server on my network. This is the hopefully relevant information you'll need from my network

I have a Samsung N310 with a atheros wireless card. Been having trouble getting it to work. I was thinking about upgrading to a N card anyway so I will be buying one tonight. Does anyone know of a Mini PCI N card that works out of the box with ubuntu 64bit?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI dual boot windows 7 and Kubuntu on my laptop, my wireless card works on windows 7 no problem, and luckily the company also has a linux version of the driver. My question is, how can I install packages on kubuntu without a wired internet connection, and what packages should I download to be able to install the driver on kubuntu without getting errors?
My wireless card is Realtek 8192CE.
Here is the download page for the driver, in case I missed something.
I am dual-booting Kubuntu/Windows 7 x64bit.
Just a short note on getting this card to work in Fedora 14 (and presumably Fedora 15) 64bit. First of all, none of the rpm packages which you might choose will work because none of them are for this chipset. First, one goes to the Rosewill website, finds the driver for this card as a compressed tar file. After downloading it and extracting, you will find in the parent directory a Makefile and README_STA_PRI.
The instructions in README_STA_PRI, if followed carefully, will do the job except for one thing: there is a mistake in the os/linux/config.mk file that needs to be fixed. In the $(PLATFORM),PC 2.4 branch, change -imarch=i686 to -march=core2 and more importantly, in the 2.6 branch, add -march=core2 to the EXTRA_CFLAGS and add export CFLAGS (which would otherwise not be done). In the main Makefile, as per the instructions, I set HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y and HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y so that the Network Manager can control the card.
In the instructions, wps_supplicant is not where they indicate (it is in /usr/sbin/) and the configuration file which I used was in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, not the one in the dbus-1/system directory. The wpa_supplicant command was run before the make and before "insmod rt3562.ko", and it generated a bunch of error messages because the card had not be recognized yet. The error messages didn't seem to matter.
The card was already in the machine and when "insmod rt3562.ko" was executed, the card was instantly recognized and the network manager set it up and put it into play without any further fuss or muss.
I'm doing work at a home office that uses all Ubuntu computers. They have wireless printing setup on a few computers using CUPS. One of the computer's wireless printing isn't working. could someone please help me with getting this set up? Is this something really basic that most people would understand how to do?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI an an HP Pavillion laptop with SuSE 11.4. I had 11.3 working but I had to upgrade (install, not update due to other issues).
Now, when I go to YAST2 ->Hardware->printer->Print via network->Connection Wizard-> TCP Port and set the IP address and hit TEST CONNECTION I get an "OK". I select "Kodak" as the printer manufacturer and get these as my driver choices.
It uses port 9100 which looks open. I pick one driver and YAST creates the config. I then hit "Print test page" and nothing happens. This happens with either driver and a couple I downloaded from who knows where.
The printer is a Kodak ESP 5210 that runs with Windows 7 and Vista on the same network. Any ideas? Any tools I can use to sniff it out? I dropped the firewall to no avail, moved to the internal zone, no joy. It worked under 11.3 but I did not record the configuration steps or setup.
I am having issues printing to an hp laserjet p1006 printer. I tried to manually set up the printer using socket://10.0.1.1:9100 and a popup said user name and password. The printer listing said I needed to install missing plugins. So I deleted the printer listing and then installed the hplip-3.11.run without problems and let the installer open the printer port in the firewall. I do not get the same pop up, and it is still not printing. My box has a wireless nic and I run ./wlan0down then ./wlan0up to get the nic working after boot up. The printer is attached to an apple airport express and works with an imac wirelessly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have successfully setup wireless printing with apsfilter, it has written the correct printcap file and if I print with "lpr -P lp file" it works fine, BUT, when I print with just plain old "lpr file" it goes looking for my old printer. The old printer is NOT in the printcap, so where in the heck is lpr finding this old printer name???
I have rebooted (although this is never necessary in Linux) but that made no difference either. I'm stumped.
I have recently installed Fedora 13 dual booted with windows 7. Everything on both OS's works fine with the exception of Linux printing. I am using a Netgear WGPS606 print server. (it works fine on Windows 7). I have, from Linux pinged the server (192.168.1.200) and have gotten a response for each string sent but following the usual procedure [System-Administration-Printing then Add (a printer)- Expand Network Printer etc.] The response is that there is no printer found at that address. (the firewall was disabled).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Lenovo B450 laptop with Fedora 14 x86_64. The laptop has a Atheros AR5001 wireless adapter and is identified at lscpi.
Additionally lspci reports that the kernel driver in use and the kernel module for that device is ath5k.On a fresh install of Fedora 14, the NetworkManager applet seem to behave well at enabling and disabling wireless (remember the "Enable Wireless" checkbox). Though wireless was always at disabled state at every boot time, even if it was enabled at the toggle button on the laptop. Now that, after I have fully updated the system (yum -y update), I'm unable to enable wireless. Clicking on the "Enable Wireless" menu item on the NetworkManager applet has no effect, and I've a confirmed report that the update broke this functionality (I reinstalled F14, and then it was working, full system update broke the function). After the update, the kernel version is 2.6.35.10-72.fc14.x86_64 and the NetworkManager version is 0.8.1-10.git20100831.fc14.x86_64.
I now have a working (almost!) Slackware 13 install on my Samsung R60+ laptop "startx" gets me into KDE no problems, so there's a reasonably familiar GUI to muck around in, but I think that I'll need help getting the wireless networking going. It would be nice to do this in KDE, but I don't think it's going to be possible at the moment. Running netconfig was confusing, as I've never had to do it before. So imagine if you will:
I've just booted Slackware. I'm sitting, logged in as root for the time being, at the command prompt. I'd like to get my wireless card (Atheros AR5007EG) working. Can anyone walk me through the commands I'll need to execute (bear in mind that I don't even know how to edit a config file yet) in order to get this thing on the internet? I've tried reading the docs (slackbook) and googling, but with no luck so far - I don't understand what they're on about! Win7 does this for me.
I have a ubuntu pc that has an attached printer that I want everyone on the net work to have access to to print. I have added the samba printer but it keeps asking for a darn password every time I print something and it is driving me nuts.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI apologize if I'm a little wordy. I'll give the problem, then a detailed list of my setup (to help troubleshoot). Problem: I can't print from Ubuntu 10.4 on my Win7 shared printer. I also can't connect to the Win7 computer sharing the printer (probably a related problem).
Error Message:
1.) I click on Places, Network, Windows Network. I get an error that says "Unable to mount location, Failed to retrieve share list from server."
2.) I click on System, Administration, Printing, Add, Printer, Network Printer, Windows Printer via SAMBA, Browse..., and I get this error "No Print Shares, There were no print shares found. Please check that the Samba service is marked as trusted in your firewall configuration. To do this select System->Administration->Firewall from the main menu."
Network Configuration: I have a wireless/wired network (using a router) where the Ubuntu machine connects wirelessly and the Win7 machine connects wired. The Win7 machine is on a Win7 homegroup and custom named "workgroup". There is a username/password to log into the Win7 Machine. My other Win7 laptop connects just fine to the Win7 desktop's shared printer (and network drives). I know it isn't a issue of it not working (at least with other Win7 machines)
Problem: I'm assuming there is probably a setting in Win7 that needs adjusting (although I've looked at about everything I can find). I also don't know much about Ubuntu so it could very well be something I need to setup in Ubuntu. I checked already to make sure that SAMBA and the smbfs plugin is installed.
