I am using ubuntu. I have Cairo clock on my startup list, but after logging in cairo-clock appears on left top corner, but as it is the position reserved for computer, my home, mounted volumes etc. So I want to change default position of cairo-clock to left but there is no such option in the preferences of cairo-clock. My cairo-clock version is cairo-clock 0.3.4. Can I edit any config file of cairo-clock.
View 1 RepliesI tipically love the clock to appear in the desktop upper right corner but... everytime I reboot, the cairo-clock appear in the middle of the screen losing the right place "memory", and I have to replace it manually all the times...I've tried with another clock, the screenlet provided one and I met no problem with this issue, but before to give-up and canging clock I want to try this last chance.In the autostart menu I created a new item called "cairo clock" that execute the command: < cairo-clock > but I suppose there could be a better command to configure by passing also the desktop position coordinate.

Nor does there appear to be any option in Gnome Terminal Profile Preferences (other than to run something other than the shell when starting Terminal). Anyone know how make this modification so Gnome Terminal will always start in the same size and position?

then after rebooting the screen looks like where cairo dock's position is dislocated to the central screen. Also I can't edit gnome-terminal's profile such as changing font, and so on. Any place I can check what may go wrong? Or where to adjust the setting?
The text of my cairo-clock screenlet is clipped - only a pixel or two on the top, but more on the bottom (see attached screenshot). Is there a way to fix this? (Also, does anyone know how to format the clock differently? I would like a single line with the format like "13:59 31/01/2010" ...)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem with my Ubuntu Natty virtual machine running under VirtualBox on OSX.One day last week, my clock on the top bar in Gnome stopped displaying the correct time (I'm not running Unity). I'm on GMT, so right now it should be 9:31, but it's showing 3:31, so I think it's something to do with TimeZones. If I go into the date and time applet, the time is initially wrong but after a second sets itself to the correct GMT Time. The timezone is correclty set as London and it makes no difference if I unlock and set it again or select manual or automatic from internet time.
From a bash prompt, the "date" command shows: "Tue Sep 20 03:33:35 CDT 2011".If I run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata" I am correctly set as London. Upon exiting the commnand I'm shown the correct London time, but then typing "date" again shows the CDT time again.The clock is correct in OSX. This has been working fine for a month or two - I think it stopped working after an update last week. Any ideas?
Is there a way to alter the default position that windows open such that if I have an application that I want to open (for example) with the lower right corner in the lower right corner of the screen or in the middle of the screen, etc, this can be done automatically? In KDE it can be done by right clicking and adjusting application properties. I don't see how to do that in Gnome. I'm using Fedora 13 with Gnome.

Previously, when first opening Firefox, the window aligned to the left edge of the screen. Now it is centered. The window dimensions are correctly retained between sessions, but not the position. Can I get it to open at the left again?

The GDM (login) greeter is displayed in the center of the screen, and thus, one half of the greeter is on the left monitor and the other half is on the right monitor. I've been trying to find away to move the greeter to only one monitor. I've searched Google and the forums for an answer.
Here's what I've tried:
1) gmdsetup => does not have an option to position the greeter
2) gconf-editor => does not have an option to position the greeter
3) ubuntu-tweak => does not have an option to position the greeter
4) Tried these settings in

The problem is that everytime I log into the pc, the link does not work anymore as if the position of the directory was changed. So I have a lot of problems with the library of rhythmbox too. I am running Ubuntu Karmic and I have the Cairo-Dock as my launcher. I am trying to figure out how to change the icons in the "Shortcuts" applet, but I am running into trouble. I did find where the icons are stored, but I was looking for a way to point to different icons instead of overwriting the originals. I have attached a screenshot of the applet and icons in question. By the way, I did try changing the overall icon theme of Cairo-Dock and that seems to have absolutely 0 effect on the applet icons.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi've installed cairo-dock to have some eye candy on my openbox desktopso everything's been good, and installed lxappearance so i won't have gnome daemon running all the time, the thing is that when i use the nautilus launcher from cairo dock, the window keeps the default theme of nautilus which is... in lack of a better word "ugly" you know is all gray and looks like the one that came with win$h!.. 98, but actually lxappearance works 'cause i can see the theme i chose when i execute rhythmbox or other application.so my question would actually be.. why it looks crappy only when i launch it from cairo-dock? the launcher uses the command nautilus --no-desktop, so maybe i have to add something so it will apply the theme?? i don't know.

I can use Add to Panel to get a clock back, but it doesnt have the other things that were attached to the default one =S
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know what is up with our servers, but each time I upgrade Linux or switch back to Windows it seems that the default providers have changed,and as such I'm having trouble finding out how to change the default run level from 5 to 3 in Ubuntu 10.4. I had tried the /fstab file, and although the last time I made this configuration was under Suse, I'm not even sure that's how I did it for OpenSuse. I did find how to pass the text argument to the kernel but I don't want to disable GDM so that I have to renable it everytime I login. I'm unsure of how this will affect the startx command, at which point I'll be stuck sifting through books for random commands that might perform the task I would like.To elaborate, the reason I'd like to switch my default run-time level is so that I can configure an nvidia proprietary driver, which requires that the x server not be running and I could switch tty's but that doesn't shutdown the x server and although someone had given me a key combination to the effect of ctrl-alt-backspace,backspace I was advised against using it as it might cause damage to the integrity of the data used to load gdm.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Redhat 5 Enterprise (Nautilus 2.16.2) with Gnome and am having trouble changing the default application for PDFs. No matter what I do, it seems to always come up as evince.
First I tried browsing to a PDF file using Nautilus, right clicking on a PDF file, selecting properties, open with, and then changing the radio button. However, the radio button is selecting "Document Viewer" and clicking on the other buttons doesn't do anything. The button is stuck on "Document Viewer" (I'd like to use Adobe Acrobat).
I thought I'd do it manually then. Running `gnomevfs-info file.pdf" shows code...
So now xdg-mime and gnomevfs-info are showing different default applications for this file type. I've tried updating the mime database using update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime as well as updating my desktop database using update-desktop-database ~/.local/share but nothing seems to be working.
Changing a default application really shouldn't be this difficult. What should I try next to change my default application?

Details: I have a 3 monitor setup with 2 video cards. When I boot the computer, the BIOS displays on the PCI graphics card (which has a small monitor). When starting Linux, the console is displayed on the same monitor. Is there a way to have the console output on a different monitor? I'm using the vesafb framebuffer.
