View 1 RepliesI use VNC, open an xterm, and for example when I press "NumPad7", it completes "Home" command. Also "NumPad1" is mapped to "End". In fact there is a code for .cshrc that does the work required. But unfortunately I can't translate it into a bash code. Please help me to translate. Here is the code:
if ($?TERM) then
# fix the home, end, ins and del keys
if ($TERM == "xterm" || $TERM == "vt100" ||
$TERM == "vt102" || $TERM !~ "con*") then

I'm running VirtualBox 3.2.6 on a Win7 computer. In VB I have several clients:
3 OpenSuse, 11.2 & 11.3, 2 w Gnome one text-only. One Smoothwall Two Debian Lenny, one w Kde one w Lxde Only in one Debian, the one w Kde, the numerical keypad doesn't work! I've tried booting without X but no difference.
First of all, this is not famous problem, which solves by unchecking "Allow to control the pointer using the keyboard". My numpad navigation does not work in console under X. Nor in Konsole/KDE/Kubuntu (9.10), nor in Console/Gnome/Ubuntu (9.04). It works in graphics applications. It works in system console in text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1..6) too. But in Konsole I can't navigate cursor by numpad arrows in Midnight Commander or text editors. When NumLock is on - the numbers are typed. But when it off, nothing happens - cursor doesn't move. The same reaction from Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys on numpad.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was shell scripting and all the sudden. I realized I couldn't use my numpad, all it did was move my cursor.I had to fix it in the settings.it's a fiun feature if my mouse is not with me AND my touchpad dies.using ubuntu 10.10
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not able to get the num pad on the keyboard working. I can switch it On and off but when I want to use it in some apps like KWrite it's not working.
It seems to be a generally error, because I tried several keyboards. USB, PS2 , older ones, new Cherry, ... It's always the same. I have a german keyboard layout and all keys including the € sign and the special keys for play, stop, ... are working except the num pad.
The strange thing is. When I switch to another console e.g. ALT+F2 the num pad is working.So I think it's an problem in KDE. But I can not find the error.
I'm using OpenSuSe for a long time, but this problem never happened before.
I can work around it for now if I have to, but it's a weird and annoying bug. Basically, since installing openSUSE 11.3 RC1 I've been unable to use the 0 key on my numpad. The rest of the numpad functions correctly, it's just the 0 key and it is in both numlock on and off modes (not that I ever use it in off, but I tested anyway). This is the relevant output from xev:
Code:
KeyPress event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x5e00001,
root 0x1ad, subw 0x0, time 3291105, (574,178), root:(588,243),
state 0x0, keycode 87 (keysym 0xff9c, KP_End), same_screen YES,

In Ubuntu used to be a keyboard option called "Make Shift+NumPad work like MS Windows" or something. It allowed me to press for example Shift+NumPad 7 and it would get registered as the "Home" key. Without that option the shift key acts like a temporary NumLock and it'll pick up a "7" instead. My regular Home/End keys are somewhat out of reach, so I wonder where the setting is in XFCE. I'm using the latest XUbuntu 11.04.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to use sed to comment out a certain command in a js file. The command is called processLoad(..). I came up with expression below but it doesn't do what I expect it to do. The computer that I am on belongs to my provider, so I do not know the version of linux that is running on the machine.
[added:]
sed -r -i 's_^([ ]+processLoad.*)$_//1_' test.txt
I hope to replace a line:
processLoad('mystr');
into
// processLoad('mystr')
I figured out that '/' as substitute separation character would pose problems with the // as comments, so I choose _ as substitute separation character.
I'm having trouble geting twitcam on the linux version of firefox to work.
Accordingly to

I have flash version 10.0.45.2 which is the latest flash version as of 5/13/10 (I installed it yesterday). When I go to
[URL]
-> Broadcast Live (big red button at bottom)
-> [login to twitter account]
The right side, which has the online chat, works fine. On the left side, which has the video, the top says
Click here to authorize Flash to access your camera and microphone
and the bottom says
Adobe Flash Player Settings Camera and Microphone Access static.livestream.com is requesting access to your camera and microphone. If you click Allow, you may be recorded.
If I click "Click here" or "Allow", nothing happens. Nothing responds on the left side.
Is this
- a linux firefox bug
- a linux flash bug
- twitcam is using a window OS feature
- or what?
Is there any workaround?
Fyi, the webcam works just fine for cheese (linux "self" camera program). Also the lspci data for this 701 eee laptop is

downloaded Amarok and Juk.. and i'm kinda new to linux. I think i'm missing some magical components that will let mp3's play. it's very quiet right now and it's kind of unnerving.. my stereo's gone and i really don't have much music in formats that my computer will play. I ran a search and i guess my question was so basic no one else had trouble with it :/

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using opensuse 11.2 on my dell studio 14 laptop and to my surprise the key combination for bringing up text based console does not function as expected.when I press ctrl+alt+ fn keys I am greeted with a blank screen and ctrl+alt+F7 brings me back to the GUI plasma desktop.Does this have to do something with the acpi=off thing I did for booting successfully into linux ( without this option, the screen would go off and not respond to anything ... physical restart was the only option). although my system starts off without any fuss, OS does not detect the battery of my laptop.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter waiting about a week compiling updates for this gentoo box (684 to be exact) only to have the whole distro crap out over conflicting glibc, portage, python, and gcc versions and bugs I decided to give up on gentoo.However I saw an even more interesting linux distro called "tinycore" on the net.So I burned an iso and properly burned it to a CD. The CD is fine because it loads perfectly on another machine.The distro will load to a command line just fine but when trying to start the gui it freezes with a small X in the middle of the screen. After waiting minutes for something to happen I restarted the laptop.
Its got an Intel 852/855GME onboard video that seems to be causing the problem while it works with every other linux distro just fine. Err... Well the vesa driver works just fine on every other distro.The i915 driver takes some major work to get it working but it can be done.I think tinycore uses Xvesa while other linux distros use Xorg... Could this be a problem?I couldn't find anybody else (via google) having problems with no video in tinycore so I thought I might ask for help here.
I am really not very experienced with linux and have only just started working off the command line in windows as well.
I know the basics but I am trying to install R-1 and I was having a lot of difficulties and figured out that it was that xinetd was not running.
So I tried to run it service xinetd start and it said unecognized service so then I installed xinetd and there was already a xinetd.d directory with all of the processes i needed with the .conf file but so when i run xinetd -d
Code:
My xinetd.conf file looks like this:
Code:
# All service files are stored in the /etc/xinetd.d directory
#
includedir /etc/xinetd.d
# End /etc/xinetd
EOF
This is what one of the files in xinetd.d looks like
Code:
I need to get xinetd running so that i can finish installing R-1.
I cannot figure out how to "install" a program I downloaded. It comes in Windows, Mac, and Linux flavors, and I did acquire the Linux version, which comes in a ZIP file. After I unzip it and cd to the directory it is in, I had an earlier version working a few months ago, but cannot recall how I made it work back then.
