I was shell scripting and all the sudden. I realized I couldn't use my numpad, all it did was move my cursor.I had to fix it in the settings.it's a fiun feature if my mouse is not with me AND my touchpad dies.using ubuntu 10.10
View 2 RepliesI have an issue with a bluetooth mouse. The mouse connects with the pc normally, and the bluetooth manager reports that the bluetooth device sends data. However, the mouse does not move the pointer, or seems to do any kind of effect on the pc.

I have compiz config settings manager and I did some changes there but I've noticed now that for example when a skype chat window is open and when I move my mouse pointer away, the window disappears. Is there a way to move the mouse pointer to a predefined location, for instance when I press a hotkey combination? Or maybe some way to flash the mouse pointer so it's easier to find?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI Installed Debian 6.0 RC1 in virtualbox on my PC and the installation went fine but when I boot into Debian, the mouse pointer doesn't move although the left and right mouse buttons seem to work.
I'm running on an ASRock 890GX Extreme 3 Mobo with virtualbox running in Windows 7. Virtualbox has no problems with the mouse with other distros I've tried. Is it to do with the proprietary-free kernel being used? If so how do I install the regular kernel?
I'm using a USB Wireless Mouse (Debian 5.07 works fine in Virtualbox), cannot try a PS/2 type mouse (or USB to PS/2 adaptor) as Mobo doesn't have a PS/2 Mouse socket, only one for keyboard
As you know it is possible to move the mouse pointer with the numlock keys on a standard keyboard. I would like to know what are the commands for moving the pointer up, down, right, and left? I plan to reprogram different keys/shortcuts to do those mouse functions instead of the numlock keys.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, this is not famous problem, which solves by unchecking "Allow to control the pointer using the keyboard". My numpad navigation does not work in console under X. Nor in Konsole/KDE/Kubuntu (9.10), nor in Console/Gnome/Ubuntu (9.04). It works in graphics applications. It works in system console in text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1..6) too. But in Konsole I can't navigate cursor by numpad arrows in Midnight Commander or text editors. When NumLock is on - the numbers are typed. But when it off, nothing happens - cursor doesn't move. The same reaction from Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys on numpad.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Ubuntu used to be a keyboard option called "Make Shift+NumPad work like MS Windows" or something. It allowed me to press for example Shift+NumPad 7 and it would get registered as the "Home" key. Without that option the shift key acts like a temporary NumLock and it'll pick up a "7" instead. My regular Home/End keys are somewhat out of reach, so I wonder where the setting is in XFCE. I'm using the latest XUbuntu 11.04.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not able to get the num pad on the keyboard working. I can switch it On and off but when I want to use it in some apps like KWrite it's not working.
It seems to be a generally error, because I tried several keyboards. USB, PS2 , older ones, new Cherry, ... It's always the same. I have a german keyboard layout and all keys including the € sign and the special keys for play, stop, ... are working except the num pad.
The strange thing is. When I switch to another console e.g. ALT+F2 the num pad is working.So I think it's an problem in KDE. But I can not find the error.
I'm using OpenSuSe for a long time, but this problem never happened before.
I can work around it for now if I have to, but it's a weird and annoying bug. Basically, since installing openSUSE 11.3 RC1 I've been unable to use the 0 key on my numpad. The rest of the numpad functions correctly, it's just the 0 key and it is in both numlock on and off modes (not that I ever use it in off, but I tested anyway). This is the relevant output from xev:

I use VNC, open an xterm, and for example when I press "NumPad7", it completes "Home" command. Also "NumPad1" is mapped to "End". In fact there is a code for .cshrc that does the work required. But unfortunately I can't translate it into a bash code. Please help me to translate. Here is the code:

I'm running VirtualBox 3.2.6 on a Win7 computer. In VB I have several clients:
3 OpenSuse, 11.2 & 11.3, 2 w Gnome one text-only. One Smoothwall Two Debian Lenny, one w Kde one w Lxde Only in one Debian, the one w Kde, the numerical keypad doesn't work! I've tried booting without X but no difference.
For Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / Gnome 2.30.2.
I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?
i've just installed a fresh copy of 10.04 on my laptop, and, with the default "ambiance" theme, i can't change the pointer to dmz-black: i click on it to select it, but it stays white, even after rebooting and stuff.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have many mouse pointers in the .ico also .ani and .cur format from my old windows days SEE image attached would also like to make new ones and really want to turn them into a format which works on ubuntu since the choice of pointers is only 6 i found a way to install X11 cursors from gnome-look.org download then save to .icons in the hidden part (control H) of my home folder then go system/preference/appearance/customize/pointers
but even then you have to install a whole lot of files to change one pointer and i see no way of making/installing my own is there a more straightforward way? ubuntu/linux are about freedom and here i am at the moment very restricted
I've just upgraded a Compaq D510 from 9.10 to 10.04.During upgrade I got a message:-Code: Missing Resources.The NetworkManager Applet could not find some required resources.It cannot continue.However it did continue, and the system seems to work OK except the mouse pointer is invisible.I can use <ctrl> to highlight where it is, and I can click on menus and run apps.If I VNC in from another machine I can see the mouse pointer on the remote screen.With at least one Theme/Icon/Pointer configuration combination I can get the pointer to appear after boot, but only by launching either Firefox or Gimp.

Some time ago I did something on my laptop in Ubuntu 10.4 which enabled the Ctrl key to create concentric rings around the cursor so I could find it. I still have that, and it's very useful. But I discovered that it also created very pretty ripples in my wallpaper, as if a stone had been thrown into a pond, and that additional effect has suddenly gone away.I can't remember where this keybinding was set up, and I have searched in vain in CompizConfig for it.

I can not see the mouse pointer. The mouse seems to work, but since I can not see the mouse pointer, its impossible to upgrade to UBUNTU 11.04 the same problem with UBUNTU 10,04 but no problem with UBUNTU 9.10.(My laptop is Fujitsu Siemens Amilo)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my wife's old notebook, a Sony Vaio PCG-FX705, by wiping the HDD (i.e. no more Windows ). The problem is that there's some weird display error that reminds of a TFT with pixel errors, although that's no the cause. I got a screenshot of it here (made with a digicam), and here is a close-up of it.
One thing I've noticed is that this error starts at the mouse pointer's tip and goes right when the computer is booted. Also, when using Blank Screen as screensaver, the error disappears once the screen went blank until I press a key or move the mouse, at which point the error will re-appear at the mouse pointer's current location. The only way I found so far to temporarily fix this problem is to change display resolution. It doesn't matter which resolution I use, all that matters is that I change it.
My mouse pointer goes from regular white pointer when on the desktop / app bar, to the black oxygen theme cursor when on a web browser or nautilus when hovering over the |-|+|x| boxes.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm using the control key to locate my mouse pointer and that is very slow and annoying.
Was it something I downloaded?
I just installed Kubuntu on my machine, but on returning to gde I still have the oxy-white pointer from kde. I went to preferences>appearance>themes>customize>pointer, and changed it back to DMZ White, yet the pointer still looks like oxy-white. I tried it with all of the different pointer options, but none of them will override oxy-white.
