I tried the openssi for debian. I've tried linux from scratch but flopped trying to get mosix or kerrighed on it. Anyone got a simple way to go to get a hard drive installed single system image cluster with 32 bit machines. I'm not a new linux user but I have seemed to reach the limit of my skills. I don't like the live cds because I plan to add software later. The live cds don't fit my needs.

I have come across an issue. We have an application for the biotechnology. The application is very heavy so we are trying to run it on cluster. We have four Dell workstation 7500. Each is having 32 GB RAM. But I am not getting the exact method of configuring cluster and node. I have tried Conga (Luci, Ricci). My questions are:1) Is it possible that our application can run on cluster ?2) If its possible then how shall i configure it?

My goal is to have multiple servers share a file system, to act as somewhat of a network raid, so if node-A goes down the files are available on other nodes, and hopefully so when the capacity of the nodes are reached I can add nodes to expand the "cluster".

I have install the rock cluster on the main server . and I want to connect the client with the PXE boot . when I starting the client then it boot from the PXE boot into the mode of compute node. but it ask the where is to be stored the I have give the path..then server says that not able to find the directory path.
Steps:-
1) insert-ethers
2) client is started with the PXE boot.
3) it detects the dhcp .
4) At last it demand where is to be started by cd-rom, harddisk ,nfs etc.
then I started with the nfs and I have given the lanIp of server.and server is detecting the client but client is not finding the filesystem directory. into export partition directory but it is not taking path.
PATH:-
/export/rock/install it is not finding this path then it is not able to start the o/s from PXE boot..Is there any solution and manual of rock or anyother solution then u can reply to me...
I have created a simple menu driven script for our Operations to take care of the basic monitoring and managing of our production application from the back-end. Now, the script when tested in UAT environment was fine, but when deployed to production it kind of behaved oddly.hen the Operator chooses an option from the menu he is given the output and at the end is prompted to return to the main menu by using ctrl+c. In production, this return does not occur for some strange reason and the program just sits there.The session becomes unresponsive after that and I'm forced to terminated it by closing the PuTTY.I tried enabling the debug mode too (set -x) and still was not able to find any useful hints/trails as to why.

A tool using top was developed so that we could get a good look at what exactly was happening on the process level, however we are mainly interested in one object running on the box.The box has a single core Celeron processsor running the Wind River Linux platform. The CPU usage from my object is frequently spiking over 100%. Doing some research online so far has led me to the fact that a multicore processor can do this however I have found no mention of a single core processor displaying this behavior.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to build GFS2 cluster with 2 or 3 Fedora 14 nodes, but I've encountered some problems from the start. First luci does not work at all in Fedora 14. There is no luci_admin and even if I manage to start luci service, I get a blank white screen when I try to open it from the browser. I've googled a bit and found that I'd might be able to setup GFS if I manage to build cluster.conf manually and start the cluster suite, but I cannot find documentation on how to create cluster.conf anywhere. If anyone knows how to setup GFS2 without a cluster suite or how to configure cluster.conf.

Just installed Linux (Ubuntu 10.10-net book-i386) on an acer 5310 laptop, everything is working great except for the internet. Google home page takes over a minute to load on Firefox, the actual search results takes only a second but then it takes 2 or 3 minutes to load any site i click on. I have broadband, only 1mb, but it worked perfect on the previous OS, also using Firefox.

I had a samsung 1TB HDD that I used for storing data, on an xp machine, so it was formated as NTFS.I moved this HDD to another machine and installed Freenas on it, and the installation worked fine (fyi, I used the tutorial posted here :[URL]..During the installtion, Freenas installed it's system files to a new small UFS partion. After finishing the setup, I realised that I had changed the file system of the other partion (980gb, previously NFTS) to UFS and now I don'T know how to go back. I had about 400gb of data on it and I'm pretty sure it's still there, but don't know how to get it back.
I tried messing around with recovery software such as R-Studio, and I was able to see some of my files so I know they're still there. After quite a bit of googling around, the only solution I seem to find is using gparted which is a tool to modify partions file system without loosing data, but I'm afraid to use it.
So is there a way to browse NTFS data on a UFS partition and convert it so FreeNas can see my files ? Or is there a way to put the partition back to NTFS so I can back up my data to another drive before I lose something valuable ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if and how it would be possible to put together a sort of Home "cluster" system. pecifically, I wanted to make it so I would have a central server and a few computers, where the central server holds the home folders and settings of each user, and each user can log in to any of the computers using a standardized login (into the server), where anyone could log in with their account on any of the few computers - and their home folder (Desktop, Documents, Music, etc) would automatically be there.
Also if possible, would there be some way to centralize the applications that show up on each "client"?
we have a server running with Suse linux many years. Meanwhile we changed server hardware about 4 times, mostly also updating to newest Suse version. We used to copy group, passwd and shadow to a backup medium, installed the new system and restored those files onto the new system and all was running fine. Now, some weeks ago we installed 11. on new hardware and after restoring those 3 files after rebooting the system hangs when starting GUI. I can boot into runlevel 3 and login with no problem, but when I boot into runlevel 5 mouse and keyboard are frozen. Also when starting GUI from runlevel 3 with startx mouse and keyboard immediately freeze. If I restore the files group, passwd and shadow as they came from fresh new installation I can reboot and login in runlevel 5 without problems.
OK, if I compare the userlist, as it is generated bei installation,there are some usernames I formerly not had in older Suse versions. I don�t know if this can make problems? I tried to edit the files, to combine the system users from 11.2 with the list of local user names from the old system but without success, again the mouse and keyboard freeze.So some questions arise:1) Why now mouse and keyboard freeze in xsystem, when there are changes in the user list (but only in runlevel 5)2) What is the correct way to save and restore users and groups from old to new system. I googled several hours but did not find a smart way. Maybee someon can point me to a link or a howto where I find the solution
I have a single boot system that was working great until this morning when it locked up. I was working as I always do when the system stopped responding completely. CTRL+F1 did not work to allow me into the back so I could log in and see what was happening.
CTRL+SHIFT+SysRq did not recover the system or interrupt what ever was causing the lock up.

Again this is a single boot system no Windows other than in VMWare inside the install. It is a multi drive with RAID set up workstation that I have at work. The short of it I am sole IT support as our companies ITS will not support Linux. In 5 years of operations with Linux at work this is my first issue, and I can't figure it out. I already tried the PartedMagic solution (ref = Re-Install Grub Quickly with Parted Magic) and that didn't work.
I re-installed the system completely even going to the extent to change my partition scheme just to make sure that wasn't the problem (which doesn't make sense as the system had been running for 46 days non-stop without a problem). Upon reboot after performing a complete security update I got the Error 17 message again.

To my understanding, the the basic setup is sort of identical in a way. They both have a master server (3 GHz, 2GB RAM 50GB HDD), from there it connectes to a switch, then a number of nodes (each 2 GHZ, 4 GB RAM, 100GB HDD) connect to the switch.
The cluster combines node resources so it looks like one computer (5 nodes = 2GHZ x 5, 4GB x 5, 100GB x 5 = 10GHZ, 20GB RAM, 500GB HDD). If this is correct, this sounds good for possibly Database or File server. The resources on cluster would be constant. Example would be Database Server. While running DB server it starts to slow down because of all the data it is trying to store and retreive. If you ned more resources, just add another node.
The cloud uses only resources it needs to run (same numbers as cluster). This is good for Database or Web Server. Example: Web server is hosting 10 domains each with 20 pages. One hour it uses 3 GHZ and 8 GB RAM, next hour it is getting heavy traffic so it uses 9 GHZ, 15GB RAM.
But from what I have gathered and read, this is how I am interpreting the information and understaing it. Plain and simple.
A Supercomputing cluster running a linux OS would have, say, 100 nodes. The hub (I think that's the term) would be running Gnome, KDE, or some other desktop gui. Any vital programs would also be running from the hub. Any other processes, however, would be delegated to a hub, much like individual cores in a multi-core tower. That way, you could be running 500+ intensive programs, relative to the nodes' power, and they would all run perfectly smoothly.
