On Fedora 12 eth0 is disconnected (by the NetworkManager) by default until I manually enable it from GNOME. I need to make it connected even if I start my box in runlevel 3 or 4. How?
View 1 RepliesI'm using F12 on an old box which I have fitted with a new networkcard. I'm using the box as a music server (Twonkey) and want to use the new card (gigabit - eth1) as the default, but seem unable to. I can't switch of the mainboard ethernet option (eth0) in the bios and have tried to change the settings in the ifconfig-eth0 and -eth1 files by changing the hardware addresses as elsewhere recommended, but that doesn't work. During start-up it then gives me an error message that the MAC number was not the expected one. This would indicate that the network options are kept/read elsewhere. I'm not very familiar with Linux/F12. how to make the card the default option instead of the mainboard option.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the server version 10.04. The only problem with the install was setting up the network. I believe it was due to the fact that my nic was not setup correctly. The installation reconciled the nic, but upon the reboot after the install, I had no network capabilities. I tried to ping the router, no luck. ifconfig only showed lo. Also, the GUI (command F7) freezes and does not responds. The last thing shown is configuring web server. I tried to ndsiwrapp the drivers to the nic, but found out that ndsiwrapper is for wifi connections.

I may try the AMD Catalyst proprietary drivers but from history those usually lag behind the Fedora versions. I also read some people had issues with the current AMD Catalyst drivers in the Catalyst guide thread.
Also, the AMD 6950 graphics card fan is at full speed all the time in Fedora 15. I do believe you can with the Catalyst drivers using aticonfig but was wondering about the default Fedora 15 drivers?
I am running Ubuntu Server 10.10 still and I finally got a wired connection, but when I use the ifconfig command all I see is the lo(loopback) connection, and i don't know how to enable the eth0 port?

Trying to get the wired nic working so I can troubleshoot the wireless. I cannot get any kind of network activity. Been searching so I will post a little information that seems to be common with my situation.

If I uncheck and recheck "Enable Networking" in the Network Manager Applet 0.7.996 I would expect the wired network to disconnect (which it does) and reconnect (which it does NOT). So I tried sudo ifdown eth0 and got

I got two IP's in my dedicated server. Both are external IP's. I would like to make connections using 2nd IP address under eth0:0 interface. For example: when using "lynx whatismyip.com" should display my 2nd IP. How to do this using iptables ?

I am attempting to run apache on my linux router while connected to a VPN. My default route is set to the VPN endpoint and I cannot control port forwarding at that end. I cannot seem to connect to any service that i bind to the eth0 interface. I believe that my iptables rules and OpenVPN are the source of the problem.

I have 2 network interface on 1 server and i got a problem finding a solution for it.I have 1 java application and i want it to use the eth1 for that application and not the default eth0. I prefer to have the Keyboard Accelerators underlined at all times.
That is, I don't want them hidden until I press Alt.
Keyboard accelerators aren't accelerating my work if I have to wait a second or two to read what the underlined letter is after I press the Alt key.
On Windows there's a setting for this (Control Panel, Display, Appearance, Effects, Hide Underlined letters).
Where can I set this in Ubuntu?
I read that setting gtk-enable-mnemonics=1 in a ~/.gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file should do it. I tried that. Doesn't work.

One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

View 3 Replies View Related5.10 Breezy configured as machine controller. Works great eth0 is a fixed IP to communicate with controller comms board. Not easy at all to alter - the comms board is hard coded to listen on eth0 for commands.
I can use eth1 as the default gateway and ping google.com, etc. But when I now attempt to communicate with the controller with netcat, e.g.

I obviously never get an answer since the request is passed via eth1. Using the -g option with netcat doesn't work either. I had a look at iptables but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I want. How I can still use eth0 as my communication port to the controller whilst eth1 is the default gateway?
I have two servers on a vlan at my datacentre/colocation and previously both servers had public IPs on their eth0 interfaces. The servers are HP ProLiant DL360s - one is a G4 and one is a G5 The newer G5 is now the LAMP server and the G4 has been retired and I want to repurpose it as an iSCSI target using openfiler freenas or similar.
My G5 has public/static IPs lashed to the eth0 physical interface and the eth1 is not configured to do anything yet. The G4 will have both interfaces available - perhaps one for ssh access from one of my static public IPs and the other to be a private IP on the local vlan. Here is what I am trying to get my head around...

eth0 - Public IP - full LAMP services on two or three virtual interfaces
eth1 - Private IP 192.168.0.1
The G4
eth0 - Public IP for ssh
eth1 - Private IP 192.168.0.2
Because my traffic between eth1 on these boxes is via private IPs on the local private vlan it doesn't add to my quota for bandwidth. How do I go about configuring the routing and gateways and other aspects of this so that I can run a private IP space network between the eth1s and still serve the outside world from the eth0s...
I am afraid that if I assign the private IPs to the eth1 interfaces the routing may either not work or interfere with the access to the production internet facing interfaces (eth0s).
My network name is eth2 it was changed by some reason and now i got these errors... i installed, reinstalled, re re installed, tried to run the asistant but no luck :/

On my machine (Desktop PC) I have 2 network card : wireless (rt61 802.11) and a wired card (BCM44). When I install debian 5.
The wired card is detected and logical name eth0 is assigned, while wireless is not assigned I install firmeware* software to configure the card. It is done in some way ( I used mnetwork from mepis, it works fine).
Now the problem: eth0 disapears, and no eth0 inteface found? ifconfig gives just wlan0.
Question: Why there is no eth0, it was before configuration of wlan0 ?
How to active again eth0, or ho to create the logical eth0?
I'm running a dual boot Ubuntu 10.04/Backtrack 4 (Ubuntu 8.10) system. I can get internet in the BT4 side but not in the Lucid side. In Lucid I can ping my router, and the network manager says I'm good to go, but I can't get to any web sites. I have a clevo M760T laptop. It used to run ubuntu 10.10, recently i reformatted it to fedora 14 and now the wifi card does not work. Heres the weird thing, the wifi card has a light on the laptop's front panel that says if its "enabled" (can be seen by the O/S, in ubuntu i would have no wlan0 interface until i enabled it this way, and it wouldnt show on lspci as far as i remember).The wifi is enabled using the Fn-F11 combo. I know the F11 key works as i can fullscreen firefox with it, and I know the Fn keys as i can use the Fn-F5/6 combo to alter volume etc. No matter what i try i cant seen to be able to get that light on, or the card to appear in fedora.This may be unreleated to fedora, maybe the card has broken, but it seems odd that that'd happen right when i installed fedora. Annoyingly, I dont know what make / model wifi card it was so i dont know if its related to kernel modules or similar (and nothing showing for it in lspci). Just that it worked (including actually using it to go on the internet) in ubuntu 10.10, and does not now in fedora 14.

One thing that's buggering me is that Bind tries to do its lookups first with IPv6, which fails and then falls back to IPv4. This seems to me an unnecessary use of resources, so I'd like to turn this off. This is possible by using the option named -4, but there comes the part where. the Named start/stop script is defined in the /etc/rc.d/init.d dir, but how can I get Fedora to start this script with the named -4 option?
