View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I installed Dropbox on a server to do file synchronization and it added " (Case Conflict 1)" to a whole bunch of my files! I realize now that it was caused by case insensitivity but I'm still left with hundreds of files that are in this renamed state. Is there a script in Linux that would allow me to recursively go through the directories and strip out this string?
i.e.
a (Case Conflict 1).jpg --> a.jpg
/myfolder/abc (Case Conflict 1).doc --> /myfolder/abc.doc
/myfolder/subfolder/mydoc (Case Conflict 1).pdf --> /myfolder/subfolder/mydoc.pdf
Ok I have used dropbox for a long time but never had an issue but since recently switching to Ubuntu it seems that when I download a file and drag it into my dropbox the file shows in dropbox but it doesn't seem to be applying ...after dragging it into dropbox in the upper right hand corner of the file there is a blue circle with two white arrows in it while all existing files that I out into dropbox prior to using Ubuntu are there and accessible and have a green checkmark in the upper right hand corner..

I have a couple of Linux distros, win xp, and win 7.
I'm wanting to view all my files in a file manager such as Dolphin but it only shows the Pardus that I am running and the other Windows installs.
My other Linux installs do not appear.
I've recently switched from Windows where I am used to seeing all the different Windows installs on windows explorer.
Is this not possible to do in Linux?

I use dropbox, but this doesnt syncs automatically new files created on my local folders. So if I copy this in with a Backup program I can get a fully automated online backup system.
I work on several computers throughout the day or week and make extensive use of Dropbox to sync my files between them.
One of the things that bugged me, was that bash/ssh/screen and other settings weren't synchronised between those new computers. And that I had to go through the hassle of having to recreate all those files when using a new computer. So I decided to start using Dropbox for this as well.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
# This folder contains my personal prefferences that I want to be able everywhere
# Basically, I keep my personal configuration for a few files stored on my Dropbox

View 6 Replies View RelatedNormally to find out some info on a package we have installed on our system, i pop open a shell window and execute: yum info <packagename> and this returns a lot of useful info (in this example, lets consider GIT) about statistics on currently released packages:
Code:
Name : git
Arch : i386
Version : 1.5.5.6
Release : 4.el5
Size : 8.4 M
Repo : installed
Summary : Core git tools
obviously using a few commands at the shell is a little bit easier than this, but some users may be using software without ssh access enabled.
[Code].....
However, is there a way to do 'yum info' like commands via the web browser on packages that are released but that we haven't yet installed or updated to? Or even on packages in other repositories (RPMForge, CentOSPlus) without having to configure our version of YUM in include those repositories so we can query them? I guess in the debian-sphere, the way i used to do stuff like this was via their website. Like for git, i did:[URL]
Have you used dropbox to sync your mail dirs? Was it a disaster? ... ? I have been using dropbox to sync across three ubuntu machines (two with 9.04, one with 10.04) and a windows vista machine, for about six months. I've seen a couple of oddities but am basically very happy with it. I pay for their 50GB store.
For email I use mutt and download (fetchmail) separately onto two of the ubuntu machines, outside the dropbox folders. It's a bit irritating maintaining two different mail dirs, but it does make for more security. I'm now thinking about putting the mail dirs into the dropbox folder. But if something then goes wrong with the syncing, it will be serious.
I did everything and restarted my machine, everything seems to be ok. But when i type in my IP on the browser which is 10.0.11.25 which would be the localhost machine, i get this below:

While trying to retrieve the URL: [URL] The following error was encountered:

The system returned:

I'm using a Linux machine at work, and started using at home in a VM for some home development. I have a vimrc and a bashrc with some configuration, that are useful for both machines. What is the best way to sync them? Create a symlink for each file in my home folder pointing out to a the respectives files in my Dropbox sync folder? Is this possible (delete .bashrc and create a symlink instead)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently had Pardus 2011 Installed and i moved a pile of files from my extra hard drive and cleaned it and moved files back onto it. The music files/folders wont show up on SlackWare but if i flip in a ubuntu live cd or run pardus they show up just fine. But here is the kicker. If i for example one of the cd's was a band from in town where i live. If i hash check the torrent so it is seeing if the files are on my computer to share. It will show them if you show directory and if you use Dolphin you cannot see them at all. Is there some kind of setting somewhere i have tried the action of showing hidden files.
