General :: Advanced Zipping CMD For All Updated Or New JPGs?
Feb 9, 2011
Let:Source directory is /x/y/z/src:
Destination is /x/y/z/dst,
Q: What is the option in zip command, which zip all updated or new picture files (*.jpg) from the source path to the destination + don't keep the original files -zipping while moving- ?
In the out.zip i can see two directories (dir1 and dir2) but want only these two files (file1.txt and file2.txt) were in the root of out.zip! I thought the "-D" option is what I need, but it doesn't work
I am trying to use the command gzip to compress a directory or file list as argument and compress the file in a file named copia101225, within a directory named ZIPFILES. I want to make sure that if the arguments doesn't exist, the destination directory doesn't exist that it creates it. I keep failing at compressing the file to copia101225, that is within the directory named ZIPFILES This is what I have so far:
#! / bin / bash # Title: Compress a file # Author: Jose Miguel Colella # Description: Compress a file
I'm trying to create a user account for my children in Ubuntu 10.04
When creating their account, I have turned off the 'Connect to ethernet and wireless' option of the Advanced Settings.
However, when I log into their accounts, they still have full access to the internet through both the wireless and ethernet connections. Is this option for some other purpose?
Is there an alternate way to limit internet access for childrens' accounts in Ubuntu? (I'm used to MS Family Safety as a filter for internet access - is there an eqivalent for Ubuntu?)
I have a set of folders in some directory /home/dir, and I'd like to generate zip files for the contents of each folder separately. I'm wondering if there's a quick way to do this with a one-liner, or what the bash script would be.
Directory structure: /home/dir/first/second/thirdand I want three files, first.zip, second.zip, and third.zip. I know zip isn't the best format, but these are for distribution to users on Windows machines and I'd prefer to keep them in the zip format.
I need to give a non-technical user very basic steps on how to copy/burn a folder to a blank CD. This is a senior citizen using a Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. That folder contains over 500 Mb of digital camera JPG pictures. What are the easiest instructions that I can give over the phone?
Eye of Gnome aka EOG does not open some jpgs, here's what happens.
With some jpgs only, most work fine!!
If you open one of the problematic jpg files by clicking on the jpg in Nautilus, EOG never fully opens, the process starts but the application's window does not get displayed - I then kill the process with kill -9 PID.
The same jpg opens in other viewers, EG. FSpot and OO Draw on Linux, and IrfanView on Windows.
If you start EOG from the App menu or the command line and drag a problematic jpg to it, the jpg is also not displayed, nothing happens. BUT if you start EOG with a working jpg and, once that is being shown, drag a problematic jpg from Nautilus to EOG's window then now the problematic jpg is displayed.
PS. Anyone know if there is an Eye of GNOME 2.32 (latest stable) deb package which I can download or if I can install EOG 2.32 from some other repositories? Aptitude and Synaptic have only v. 2.30.
I've installed OpenSUSE on my server and want to set ssh to log every command, which is send to system over it.
I've found this in my sshd_config:
I guess that both of those directives has to be uncommented, but I'd like to log every command, not only authorization (login/logout via SSH). I just want to know, if someone breaks into my system, what did he do.
I have been trying to get the advanced graphics for compiz, emerald, and cairo dock working for a few days now, but alas, I have failed horribly. I tried to uninstall compiz and emerald a few days ago (stupidly) and since then, these problems have arisen. I tried seeking help on ubuntuforums.org, but they were unable to help. You can see the entire thread at the following link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1694800&page=2
If you want a detailed list of everything I've done, you can go to that site, but here's a summary: I entered a series of code that I was lead to believe would eradicate compiz from my system so that I could go through with a full reinstallation. However, the result was that I now can't load any advanced graphics from emerald, compiz or cairo dock. I've tried reinstalling the entire operating system, but I'm getting the same problem. I also tried a live CD for 10.10, but with the same results.
I don't know if this is a relevant piece of information, but one thing of note is that I typed "compiz --replace" into the terminal and got the following:
Code:
WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXCreatePixmap" when GLX 1.3 is not supported! This is an application bug! Starting gtk-window-decorator compiz (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/ubuntu.png WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXDestroyPixmap" when GLX 1.3 is not supported! This is an application bug! Again, I don't know if that helps at all, but there it is...
I just installed KDE and I had 2 minor problems with Konqueror:
1) Every time I emptying the trash, I'm getting the error message: "The file or folder /...path here.../.Trash-1000/files/...filename here does not exist.". Seems like I had deleted this file, and before emptying the trash, I deleted somehow this file outside Debian installation (probably from a live cd). Other than that, trash is working OK. I'm just wondering if there's a way to get rid of the error message. (Of course emptying the trash from command line, doesn't brings any message).
2) Konqueror stopped displaying thumbnails of JPGs, PNGs etc. (with the exception of Photobook view, which is not very convenient for large number of photos).
I bypassed this problem, installing d3lphin (since dolphin is not available for lenny), and browsing the photo catalogs with it.
Does anyone know or have a book on the advanced uses of kickstart and its deployment methods? I have a challenge and its to: Write a report with a full and detailed analysis of the two methods,(remote installation methods of linux and windows) their differences, and a comparison of features and performance.
I am also going to have two servers (one Windows one Linux)thay deploy a virtual network of VMs with different scopes and policies. What can i really do to go beyond the scopes and policies?
I have a linux (Slackware) machine and the time/date is like, June 23rd 2003, 10:00am (It's 11 here) and I am not able to set the time to have it correct. I change the timezome to Montreal but the time is still wrong.
Is there a way to force it to sync with my domain controler or even another online NTP server?
I have a RHEL 3 server that I just tried to install updates on, but up2date kicked back the following message and no updates. Is redhat not offering updates for version 3 anymore? "This system may not be updated until it is associated with a channel".
I've been googling around and have had a bit of a hard time trying to find help with this little issue. Managed to install CouchDB on the server at work after doing some fiddling due to not having spidermonkey availableAnyways, rt of this involved updating openssl.fter doing this however all hell broke loose. It seems a lot of programs needed the old version- I keep getting: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I did a search: >locate libssl.so.0.9.8 And it returned:
Initially i wrongly entered the serial port device as ttys0 and save it. It wont reply due to wrong device selection. Actual device is ttyS0 and i select this and try to save it as dfl,but an message appear as 'cannot write to /etc/minicom/minirc.dfl'

We copied the directories/files from one filesys1 to filesys2 and since that initial copy have further added more directories/files to filesys2 from another source. How can we compare filesys1 to filesys2 to make sure all files/directories were copied successfully to filesys2? I would like a way to check filesys1 against filesys2 and only show/output when something is missing from filesys2 that exists in filesys1 and not report the additional/extra directroies/files that have been copied to filesys2.
Im such an idiot. I have no idea of how to use terminal on this computer. I tried to download the updated version of skype and now it wont work. Nothing happens and it says /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version 'GLIBCXX_3.4.9 not found(required by skype)
where does all the updated packages get saved in my computer in which I have installed Ubuntu 9.10? its really hard to download all those large files in slower Internet connection and the backups are unknown.please help me if i can save those downloaded packages in other devices.
I'm looking for a way to have the access log for my nginx install scroll up the terminal as lines are added to the log. I think I need a command like cat access.log | diff but I'm not sure exactly what it should be.
I have a folder hierarchy with many sub-folder levels under a set of parent folders. Based on the application design and business use, files are written to different locations on a daily basis. I want to find out the last updated file in the folder structure and its location at any given time. How can I do that?
I have just updated my Ubuntu linux to Ubuntu 10.4, not my grub menu isnt letting me boot to Windows Partition. The problem seems to be with grubs new update from using an editable menu.lst file to using a non editable grub.cfg file. Everywhere I look it states "DO NOT EDIT THE GRUB.CGF FILE". I am at a loss as what to do. I figured that the new configuration has screwed up the Windows Boot File. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this. I am not sure if it is a windows issue or an issue with the Grub boot menu.
I was assigned to do all the RHEL5 updates. All installed fine including the new kernel except for the updated libX11 and python packages. Does anyone have any suggestions relating to a fix for this?
