after reinstalling software to my Acer aspire 1 with usb drive i now cannot get live update to work - it says searching but then drops out saying unsuccesful..i managed a week ago in africa to do successful updates but didnt complete them --software all looks good but because of no updates i cant recognize a ntfs formatted hard drive or use msn .

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using the Centos 5.4 live CD to do volume resizing etc for root volume which can't be readily dismounted. I have also been using it to clone systems. It is a really great tool - even offering the same GUI interface I have come to know and love...One added feature which would be great for me would be to package "nx server" and/or "webmin" with it so it can be used to maintain remote and "headless" servers.
That way - when heavy duty maintenance is required on a remote system - the sysadmin (me) could ask the site owner to boot with the live cd - and do the rest remotely. Also it would make maintenance of headless servers easier.I'm not sure whether the live cd is inherited more or less complete from the upstream provider - or whether it is completely re-packaged at centos. I'm also not sure how technically difficult it is to re-package a live cd with extra services.
in attempt to dualboot w7 and opensuse i manage to screw windows boot loader. I was hoping that with opensuse live cd i'll successfully save my data but i was wrong. I can't browse any of partition with any of browsers inside liveCD including dolphin. When i try to access it says: There is no application installed that can open files of the type block device (inodelockdevice). Do you want to try to install one? Is there another option to access partitions because I can't install another browser on live cd.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded OpenSuse 11.1 64 bit live cd from it's official site.I have live usb creater in my xp box , with the help of which I successfully created live USB for fedora 11 earlier. Now the problem is whenever I try to create live usb using Opensuse live ISO image after extracting all files to usb , it gets failed.The same thing is happening with OpenSolaris 11 live cd iso image. Does this mean that live usb creater I have, was only foe Fedora distros?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed F12 to a live USB stick. When I boot up the system it says there are several hundred updates available. I've tried to update packages, but when I reboot the updates that claim to have been made do not appear. The system reverts to its original state after reboot.
So is it possible to do this? Can one have persistent packages? (this does seem to work with ubuntu)
Or is F12 on a live USB stick supposed to be pretty much the same thing as having a live (read-only) CD?
What I'd really like to do is have a small version of F12 on a USB stick that has up to date packages I need while dropping the packages I don't need.

I know that I can do it trough synaptic- but the problem is when I restart my pendrive, the kernel want be recognized. I think I have change something in some boot documents- but it looks here everything a little bit different than with HDD install:there is no menu.lst , etc.
My computer got hung up restarting after an update yesterday so I switched it off and back on, which led to the error message "No init found. Try passing init= bootrag", looking that up I found a thread that recommended running fsck to fix the errors.
I first went to disk utility and did the check filesystem and repair button but that just had a pop-up that said "File system is NOT clean." So I went and tried fsck on the drive which gave me the error message "fsck.ext4: Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda1 Filesystem mounted or opened exclusively by another program?"
Figuring this may have been caused by the disk utility I restarted and tried fsck again without opening any other program, and I still get the same error message. What is causing this? Swap? What can I do to get fsck running to fix the original problem?
i am wondering if i should get a fedora live cd or live dvd. space isn't a problem for me

In terminal, if I try to ping any server with its name, like ping google.com, I am able to do that, even I can successfully used nslookup and several other network commands, but when I tried to download something, using "wget" or install something using "gem install" or checking out some code using "svn", I got server timeout error.
I can see that the light of the HDD is flashing. I would like to find out what the process is that is accessing the HDD. Is there a way to achieve this?Is there a utility that ties up processes with hw resources?

I was using Windows XP on my 500GB HDD. I wanted to use any Linux os, so yesterday I removed XP & installed Fedora 14. Now I'm not able to access one of the partition (380GB).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI managed to install Mint 9 on a Windows 7 system. It works except for one thing: at the Menu options, Windows 7 is listed at the bottom, Mint 9 at the top. I can log into Mint 9 but all keys are frozen. When I boot with Super Grub and other discs, I get the same result. All keys are frozen.Is there a way to edit my boot menu so that I can get dual boot.I know I can use Win. 7 disc, repair, then re-install Windows' mbr, but that would give me back my Win. 7 but no Mint 9. (By the way, I cannot install Ubuntu 10.4 or any other Linux; ;so far it works only with Mint 9)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using ext3 and I have my / partition on sda3. This is a full install, it has /bin /home etc etc on it, the only thing I have is sda1 is /boot and sda2 is swap.
I've configured my system to mount sda4 as /home/user as the system boots up, which puts all of my data on sda4.
My question is this. How do I access any data left in (sda3) /home/user? (Because trying that won't work). Is there some way to use a direct path? Like /device/sda3/home/user?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using XP at work. I want to get to my home XP box. I have been using VNCTight with port forwarding from my router to get to my home box. I have a Debian server I use just for SSH (no graphics). I would like to open a SSH tunnel to my Debian box, then open a VNC connection that will go through the ssh and then be forwarded to my home XP box. This way everything from my work computer (or wireless laptop) will be secure to my internal network. I know that I can buy software, but that is not as fun and I wont be learning anything that way.
