iam using redhat linux in my pc, as part of my study i need to read memory controller(RAM) configuration through user space APIs.
iam trying for the same in internet but i didnt find anything interesting yet.
i need to perform RAM read/write test
I am writing an application that wants to access periphals registers outside the standard (allowed) memory area.
Doing so gets me "segmentation fault".
I know, this is natural behaviour.
One way of getting around this is writing the module which has to be loaded by linux. I will consider this some time later.
For now, I want to come to some quick result and allow linux or gcc compiler to write to those memory areas of periphals. Is there a direct way to do so?
I can not get the node or cloud controllers to startup using the init.d scripts. I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.4 with Eucalyptus 1.6.2 I have compiled Eucalyptus and all packages using the RPM supplied from Eucalyptus and utilizing yum installer. I do not currently have any processes or applications listening currently on the ports on the boxes as well. I think it may be a permissions issue or something because I get a "permission denied error", but I am not sure if it is Eucalyptus or CentOS. It looks as if it is not binding to the address on the interface of the NIC. It may be something else however. I have the Node controller, Cloud controller, and Cluster controller on seperate physical boxes. When I try to run either the cloud controller or the node controller I get this message:

Basically i want it so that the analogue stick on my PS2 controller, which connects via a USB adaptor and is recognized, correctly controls in game characters. It seems to work fine enough in platformers, at least it does with Banjo Kazooie, but with games like perfect Dark it seem to be trying to move forward and look down at the same time, also backward and look up simultaneously and look sideways and move sideways simultaneously , rendering the game all but unplayable.
I have tried running jscal and, apart from the fact that it seems a bit beyond me, it reports "jscal: missing devicename" when i try to run "jscal -c". Do others out there have there analogue sticks working correctly with games like Perfect Dark, or the James Bond games, for example?
I am using malloc and frees a lot in my program. It shows its allocated but when i remove it doesnt show as the memory is removed(I am using the top command to view VIRT memory usage). If this continously grows what would happen to my program (Will it go out of memory?)

I'm still quite new to Linux (using Mint 9) so please bear with my not-very-articulate question(s)When I boot up and open up a tty terminal I get a message saying "Memory corruption detected in low memory." I've done an extensive google search about the issue and it seems not uncommon. I ran a memtest with no errors returned, so I'm sure that there's nothing really wrong with the memory; apparently it's a bug in the kernel that's causing this.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAt the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.
Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.
I am trying to get back into Linux after not touching it for several years. I have an HP ML330 G3 with a CSB-6 controller and no diskette drive to experiment with. I have been unsuccessful trying to install Mandriva 2010 or Fedora 12. A little research reveals that the problem is with the CSB-6 controller, but I've been unable to find a way to correct this with these particular versions. recommend a distro I can download that will work with this hardware without recompiling?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got an older computer from a friend who had Windows XP as an operating system. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it, but cannot get the wireless controller to work. It is a BCM4303. Yes, it is an old one. So far I have spend virtually nothing on the computer. Ubuntu installed without a hitch as far as I can tell with the exception of this WIFI problem. I have searched the forums but got no matches. Perhaps I am using the wrong key words. Can anyone offer a solution or point me in the general direction.

Sometimes, after logging on, the screen goes black but if I connect to it with vnc, I get a working desktop. All drives successfuly passed verifing from LSI controllers (Ctrl+A at startup), also I tried to boot from rescue llive cd and mount all the morrored drives and check it by fsck - ok.
For years I have used a Slax live CD on a laptop to clone internal HDDs to USB HDDs. I recently purchased a Sony VPCF136FM laptop with Intel Core i7 CPU. It apparently has USB 3.0 ports. The problem is the USB ports are dead with Slax. There is a USB devise driver available for Windows 7 from Sony but nothing for Linux operating systems. Can this driver be ported to Linux? It is an exacutable (XXX.exe). The chip for the USB Host is from Renesas Electronics (no help there, either). Where can I find a device driver to use with Slax and how would I install it?

Weird behaviour I should mention is that when I check for NULL pointer in node->child[index], the unassigned values are not null anymore, they point to arbitary memory.
we found that if we use 'top' to show the memory usage of a server (SuSe Linux 10), we can get virtual memory usage as well as 'Resident memory' usage. For virtual mem or a particular process, it is around 1.1GB, which is large but for resident memory, it only consumes 300MB. Are there anyone who knows what the differences are? I would also like to know whether the difference (1.1GB - 300MB) = 800MB are actually available for use by other applications in the system.
