Ubuntu :: Java Doesn't Recognize Default Browser?

Mar 17, 2011

I'm using SeaMonkey instead of FireFox, and this won't change. SeaMonkey is set to be the default browser in Preferred Applications I use a java chat client every day (.jar), which has a button that opens an appropriate web address.

The problem is, it opens that site with FireFox instead of my desired SeaMonkey.

The client runs fine with openjdk and sunjava too ( I have both installed ), but they both open sites with FireFox. In Sun Java 6 Plugin Control Panel I set the SeaMonkey launcher as "Command to launch default browser", but the client still opens sites with FireFox. As for OpenJDK, I haven't found any way to modify settings.

Ubuntu :: Eclipse Plugins Don't Work / Doesn't Install A Bunch Of Libraries And Eclipse Cannot Recognize Standard Java Files?

Jan 19, 2010

I have been using Eclipse to program in Java for a long time, and have been using Jigloo for most of my GUI design. Recently I decided to try out the C/C++ plugin. I tried installing it, but it did not work. After many attempts, I finally gave up. However, after uninstalling it I found that Jigloo had stopped working. Any other plugins I try to install now also don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plugins, and reinstalling eclipse, but nothing I have done fixes it. Although eclipse says that the software has been installed, nothing shows up in the features list or the plugins list.

Another problem: When I install eclipse from the repositories, it doesn't install a bunch of libraries and eclipse cannot recognize standard java files.

Slackware :: Installing Java Error - When Trying To Run A Java App With The Firefox Plugin - Browser Crashe

May 29, 2011

Code: ~ $ /usr/java/jre1.6.0_25/bin/java -showversion Error occurred during initialization of VMjava/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.

So what other browsers can handle heavy java usage? On windows kmeleon was my go to browser to give you an idea of the browsers that I like.

Ubuntu :: XVFB Served Remotely To Java Enabled Web Browser

Nov 1, 2010

What I have is Xubuntu running as a VM with VirtualBox on my Windows 7 Media Center that is always on. I am trying to be able to remotely access an X display on that box to do network auditing/ various linux stuff from the various places I go. I would like it to be as simple as possible and leave no trace on the remote computer, so what I would like is to use a java-enabled browser to connect to an xvfb on xubuntu with SSL encryption. I almost got it working using cherokee/x11vnc/desktop.cgi but it only works once or twice and I get network errors even on localhost. I would rather just not have X running all the time on the VM and just have an xvfb display waiting/created when I log in remotely from a browser.

Fedora :: Java Engine For Browser - Add Exception ?

May 24, 2010

I want a internet browser to open a site that needs java engine, firefox has not this and also galeon :

The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.

(Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)

* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Or you can add an exception

You should not add an exception if you are using an internet connection that you do not trust completely or if you are not used to seeing a warning for this server.

If you still wish to add an exception for this site, you can do so in your advanced encryption settings.

How i can add exception or it is better to say me that :is there any browser instead of internet explorer for linux??

Ubuntu Installation :: Missing Rights To Run Java Applet In Browser After Upgrade To 10.04?

May 7, 2010

I'm having a very strange error after upgrading to (K)Ubuntu 10.04.. basically Java Applets don't work in any browser (tried with Firefox, Chrome and Opera). The applet loads (plugin and JVM detected by all browsers) but it is grayed out. After trying all possible solutions I could think of (including installing alternatives jvm) I tried to run the browser as superuser: the applet is then working correctly. So somehow it seems to be a user right problem, but I'm not sure where this is coming from, both java (sun-6) and the browsers were installed and working ok in 9.10. Here is the directory list of /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386

Code:

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K 2010-05-07 14:03 client

Ubuntu :: Get Firefox As The Default Browser

Dec 28, 2010

I tried Chrome, but I still like Firefox better. I can't figure out how to get Firefox back as the default browser. When I go to Preferences --> Prefered Applications, web browser is set to Firefox.

I found this post...[url]

They said to run this command...

Code:

Tried that and it didn't help either. When clicking on link icons on my desktop, they open up in Chrome. Chrome says something to the extent "chrome is not your default browser to open links with. Do you want to make it?" I selected No and checked the box to not show it again. (That's why the above is not exactly what it said.) Kind of funny it said that yet it still opened up with Chrome and not Firefox.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Set Firefox To Be Default Browser In 10.10

Mar 27, 2011

I cannot set Firefox to be my default browser in Ubuntu 10.10. It used to be the default until I installed Chromium last year. Since then, Ubuntu Software Center, LibreOffice, EverNote (through Wine) and probably other apps open links in Chromium instead of Firefox.

I tried several solutions to no avail :

- System > Preferences > Preferred Applications : Web Browser = Firefox I tried with the custom command too : "firefox %s" => still opens Chromium.

- Firefox internal preferences : firefox = default

- Chromium internal preferences : chromium is NOT the default

- stuff like "sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser" set to firefox => another fail

- uninstalling Chromium : that works, Firefox opens all the links. Obviously it is not the desired solution as I want to use Chromium too.

- in Gnome Configuration Editor, there are no mention of chromium and /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command = firefox %s

Ubuntu :: Chromium Will Not Become Default Browser?

May 19, 2011

So I've been poking around google and trying to figure out if there's an answer - or at least a semi-solution to this problem, and have come up with nothing. I've just recently installed Chromium and since I've had it on my Windows 7 install, I'm trying to set it as my default browser, but for some reason it doesn't seem to stay my default browser.

Opening and closing it seems to erase the setting as it always tells me that "Chromium is not your default browser, would you like to make it your default?" And I don't know why.

Ubuntu :: Software Center Does Not Use The Default Browser

Feb 26, 2011

I have Firefox and Chromium installed since last year on Ubuntu 10.10.Firefox is and has always been my Default Browser.Recently, the Ubuntu Software Center changed its mind on what to do when I click on the "website" link on software pages: it now opens the link in Chromium instead of Firefox.I want it back to opening links in Firefox.I suspect the last updates of Chromium to be responsible for this behavior. When I remove Chromium from my Ubuntu, the links open in Firefox. Reinstalling Chromium leads back to links opening in Chromium.

The Ubuntu menu System > Preferences > Preferred Applications shows that the default browser is Firefox. In Firefox, menu Tools > Preferences > Advanced > General > "Check now" tells me "Firefox is already set as your default browser".In Chromium, Preferences > Basic > Default Browser confirms that : "Chromium is not currently your default browser".I also changed the following setting from Chromium to Firefox (and restarted my computer) to not avail:

Code:

sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser

There are 2 choices for the alternative x-www-browser (providing /usr/bin/x-www-browser).

Selection Path Priority Status
------------------------------------------------------------
0 /usr/bin/chromium-browser 40 auto mode
1 /usr/bin/chromium-browser 40 manual mode
* 2 /usr/bin/firefox 40 manual mode

tl;dr : Where can I set the browser used to open "Website" links in the Ubuntu Software Center ?
