I was browsing the internet, and while i was loading website, my system hangs. I then goto messages in /var/logs, i get the following messages. What does it mean? This hang occurs once in a while,Also is there a function that could break this hangs by cancel the process (firefox) like Windows "Ctrl-Alt-Del"?
Code:

Fedora 12 installed about a week ago. Using Yum extender to add (K desktop) and remove (unused languages) when at the end it crashed. Now the Internet stopped working. Firefox, Konqueror, and Yum terminal updates have stopped working.
I recently put together a new PC and running Fedora 14 x86 64bit. On my 32bit system I was running Fedora 10, loved it, no issues. Been running Fedora for a while now.
Here's my current specs;
Kernel Linux 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64 Gnome 2.32.0 Memory: 7.6 GiB AMD Athlon II X4 635 Quad Core Processor
I have installed Exaile, RhythmBox and Clementine. All 3 have the same problem. I can play 1 song at a time fine. But once I add more to the queue/playlist, and the next song has to play, the program crashes. Even if I click to manually go to the next song, it crashes. I can play videos fine, Flash, mkv (720/1080), avi, etc. I have no issues with any other programs, no random reboots, lockups, stalls, errors, etc. Everything runs fine execpt media players. Process to produce problem on all 3 of the said media players:
1. Launch program 2. Play 1 song 3. Add more songs to playlist/queue 4. Either wait for program to finish and try to go to next song or skip, program crashes.

I'm not sure why, but over the last couple of days when I browse the web with my Centos 5.3 machine running firefox 3.0.5, it takes a very long time to load web pages. Loading the app itself is pretty quick, and I have not issues with system resources (it's an HP Proliant ML115 server, with dual opteron processors & 3Gb RAM). Looking at CPU & disk useage there's nothing out of the ordinary:
So this just started a few days ago... maybe 7 at the most.
I am working along, and screen goes black, or just freezes... the lights on my laptop start blinking and becomes everything becomes unresponsive.
I have noticed it is usually when I am Using Firefox and Flash content. I have also noticed it happens when using Deluge, but it usually takes 5 minutes to kick in.
I am using firefox at the moment, but I am sure if I load up a ..... video, it will lock up on me again.
I tend to get constant crashes when using internet browsers ( Google Chrome and Firefox ) basically the application hangs not moving in any way, then eventually completely freezes up, the system then locks up and finally crashes.
Upon system re-start I get "Read Error" at boot ( No further information, it literally just says "Read Error" ).
It is sometimes fixed by going into the BIOS and select "Hold on No Error".
I tried installing OpenBios to see if using different BIOS firmware would resolve the issue, but the OpenBios install failed ....so no dice there either.
I am trying to work out if it is a hard drive problem or if it is purely a problem with Fedora.
It was working fine for a couple of months and when it does boot up ... the system works fine, ( Until another crash ).
It seems like the internet browsers crash the system and then the system crashes and can then no longer remember how to boot up.
what this could be that could be software based....if not it looks like I will need a new hard-drive.
I run ubuntu, 2 partion, one primary for / , one for /home and ofc swap. When I run the Livecd, at the partition step I do:
-Custom
-Select my / partition to install
-When I select next I get the error "blah blah, must be probably a bug...." and system crashes.
After system crach I can't boot into Ubuntu or anything, it gets me on the "error 11 ( think is 11 ) grub> " screen. Also, I think its something with my nouveau drivers, I think i get an error when boots the LiveCD something like "fudc...". It happens really fast and I can't read it properly.I did this procedure twice to write the errors, but it happens too fast to check them out. Also, is there a way to prepare the system before installing the Fedora, to avoid these errors?
I've just installed F15 over the weekend, and since then I've been having stability issues - primarily it seems to be related to gnome 3 (I've used fedora since its early days, and have never had such stability issues in the prior versions). Basically, when I use gnome-tweak-tool to make a modification, the system crashes; and I have to completely shut off the unit (unplug it) for it to even boot up properly. Today, I tried to change one of the options from its default, and now the very top (black bar) won't show.
I'm in the "File Manager" mode and can see the "Computer", "home" and "Trash" icons. I can move them about; and click on any of them to open. But once they're open nothing else works (clicking on any of the directories, etc, has no effect). I can ctl-alt-F2; but that's the extent. I deleted the .gconf and .gconfd directories (suggested in a different thread on a similar issue), but that didn't change anything. How do I bring back the default gnome 3 bar at the top?
I rebuilt my user account from scratch (that was the fastest approach for me). Nevertheless, gnome-tweak-tool does crash (for example, each time I turn on "File Manager"). This is clearly a bug. I'm using nvidia GTX 480; the problem might somehow be related to the card/driver. I definitely spoke too early I logged out of my account; logged back in, and the top bar is gone again and I'm left with having to deal with this again.
everything else seems well with my FC13-x86-64 except firefox (3.6.4 and earlier versions too) VERY frequently hangs the whole system. only the mouse still working, keyboard not responding to ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-alt-function or any other key and even num-lock won't turn the led on. system is still remotely accessible through ssh so I can issue a reboot. same thing may have occurred with thunderbird but only once or twice and probably firefox was also running then. no problems so far with google chrome (but I have no flash plugin for that). FC5-x86-32 on my old PC has never had any of these problems.
which log file should i look at to debug problem with system sleep or anything to do with the system won't return back after goes to sleep.
Basically i got my system running from the night before. No problem until this evening around 5pm. (i realised the problem at 5pm) my monitor goes to sleep. My system power still on. It won't respond to monitor/mouse movement. i can't ssh in.
After reboot, check /var/log/messages. The only message there before reboot was at 9am. I am pretty sure everything worked fine around 2pm.
I have a french laptop with french keyboard but I have installed fedora 64 with english keyboard. Now I would like to have both keyboards and to be able to switch between them any time I want. How can I add the french keyboard to my system? In windows I can switch between them and I can add language and keyboard anytime I want. I suppose is possible in fedora 64 too. Is anybody who knows something about?
I've managed to get some sound through the system with kernel 2.6.40.1. I use multiple sound cards, I have problems with keeping the same order. I added in etc/modprobe.conf The list of sound devices, putting my D66 card as device 3, Rebooted and cat /proc/asound/cards showed all fore devices in the correct order. I got audio through one of the apps , and started to try and get another ,wsjt, to function.
When I was trying to upgrade my fedora 13 system to fedora 14 through preupgrade, there was an error message as show below: Cannot retrieve metalink for repository: fedora. verify its path and try again How to upgrade my system to fedora 14.
Is it possible to backup and restore the system files of fedora 10_x86_64 so that if there will be any problem at OS , I can easily recover it from the previous backup files?
I am trying to kick start learning programming for Android.I try to install Android SDK(1.5, 1.6, and 2.0). However, the emulator keeps crashing with "Segmentation Fault" error. Since Android emulator is a binary only 32 bit executable, I suspect that I am missing some 32 bit library, so I tried to install qemu. However, since my installation is 64 bit, I can only install 64 bit qemu. how to enable 32bit repository on a 64 bit system? I don't know if I should use i586 or i686.
i'm working on a brand new supermicro workstation with Fedora 9 installed. I've installed only matlab r2009b. PROBLEM: every time I login the system shuts down automatically in a few minutes.
I have been using for over a year now, my 64-bit computer first with Fedora 8 and now with Fedora 10 with 2Gb of RAM just fine. Today I purchased an extra 2Gb for the system and upon installation from the GRUB screen Fedora 10 simply won't boot. It does boot with 3Gb, and it doesn't matter which stick I use for the 3Gb configuration, or what slot do I put the sticks into the motherboard, however if I place the four sticks, F10 simply won't boot. Should I pass a command line argument tot he kernel? If so, which?
I have an Aldi PC with a Q8200 processor and have installed Fedora11 on this system. Regularly I get updates to install, but also updates for i586 packages, which give a conflict with the x86_64 packages already installed.Sometimes I have missed a i586 package in the update list, resulting in an error next time.Is there a script which automatically filters these i586 packages from the update list?
I have installed Fedora Core 12 and all seems fine. I have also set up the main repositories as was suggested on the following fedora set up guide website: [URL]. I have since tried to update my Fedora release with all the updates available, alas I get the following error message:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 657, in dispatch_command self.update_packages(only_trusted, package_ids) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1948, in update_packages signed = self._is_package_repo_signed(pkg) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1437, in _is_package_repo_signed repo = self.yumbase.repos.getRepo(pkg.repoid) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/repos.py, line 121, in getRepo 'Error getting repository data for $s, repository not found' $ (repoid)
Does any one have a way to speed up the internet on Fedora 12? I have a dual boot system with Vista x64 on the flip-side, and my wireless connection there is just fine. But when I get on this side, it goes back to the dial-up days (yes I said the DU word). yum updates seem to be just fine, and e-mail seems to be fine. just firefox is slow. And now that I put the x64 Flash in (thanks to leigh123linux), with that working too it seems even a little slower again.
I recently installed Fedora 11 64bit and I am curious about encrypting my entire file system for security purposes. I've been on Google for a while now and I keep finding info on how to encrypt a specific folder or home directories but nothing on the entire file system (or I'm missing something big here). It's hard for me to imagine that it isn't. If so, do I need to encrypt the partition my file system is on before installing it? What software should I use? There seems to be so many, it's difficult to keep them all straight.
I just installed Fedora 12 and while I was trying to install Skype, there was a system crash and since then I cannot install any other software or cannot even access 'add/remove software'. Whenever I try to install a software or try to open the 'add/remove software' or, 'Software Updates' I get the message 'An internal system error has occured'. and inside it contains this-
Code: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py", line 2956, in __init__ self.repos.confirm_func = self._repo_gpg_confirm File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 717, in <lambda> repos = property(fget=lambda self: self._getRepos(), File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 496, in _getRepos self.conf # touch the config class first .....
I tried these using the terminal- yum clean all yum metadata sudo yum clean all yum clean metadata and all of these gave me the same result-
Code: Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Config Error: File contains no section headers. file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/skype.repo, line: 1 "su -c 'yum -y install skype' " Everything else is working fine, but I just can not install or update any more software.
What methods exits to restrict which directories a user may browse on the filesystem. I want to prevent php scripts from being able to view system files. I've seen two solutions, but neither are satisfactory:Chrooting a directory that the script is in, but this requires that all the necessary php libraries/files are moved/copied into the right place relative to the chroot directory. I don't feel that I have the technical ability to achieve this.Putting php into safe mode and disabling *nasty* php functions. But this is ineffective if just one obscure *bad* php function is missed.
