F12 + Samba4, services smb and nmb set to run at levels 2345 - after reboot, I need to manually doservice nmb restartin order for all machines on the network to "see" the shared folders. It appears that service nmb does NOT start properly, as when above command is entered it shows "FAIL" as message for stopping the service.

I am new to this forum, so apologies if this question has been asked before or is placed in the wrong section. Hey there, I am running Fedora 14 on a 64-bit system (laptop). Upon logging in, (it doesn't seem to make a difference if it is an initial log-in or returning from logging out), the top and bottom GNOME panels occasionally 'miss' loading a few things, or loads them improperly. As an example, the Notification Area may be missing, and I will have to re-add it manually to the blank spot where it should have loaded. I have also had issues with the Workspace Switcher loading improperly and the System Monitor not loading at all.To note, this does not happen every time, but it occurs often enough to become an inconvenience. More often than not I will have to log out and back in again to fix an improperly loaded section of the panel(s).

The laptop runs win 7 64 bit so I'm trying to go with Fedora 64 but it will not boot. I first installed Fedora 12 64 bit from the DVD install and it would go to grub fine but when I boot the fedora os It just stops in the middle of the boot script. When it stops, the last 4 lines are:

I hadn't messed with it for a few weeks and yesterday I saw that 13 was out, so I downloaded and burnt the Fedora 13 64 bit CD. I popped it in, booted the computer and it did the same crap. It didn't stop at the same line but it was around a line with:

So I guess the kernel isn't loading properly or something. Do ya'll think I would be better off using the 32 bit?

I downloaded the Fedora Live USB creator and the program consistently fails to load properly onto the flash drive. I have also downloaded the DVD iso program from this site and get only errors when trying to boot with an ISO burner? I am attempting to load the program on Sun Virtual Box, which is like VMare's Workstation, and the prompt consistently reads error when attempting to install. Also the progress bar on the Live USB loader never stops even after it the cmd prompt says it is complete.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a very new desktop system using an ASUS mainboard with built on sound. I've never had sound working properly and have re-installed many times. One sound will play (KDE4 desktop sound, Amarok audio, even games under WINE) but when a second sound plays, it stops the first one (and plays perfectly), but then the first app is no longer able to play sound. I tried to get Skype going today and have some very interesting results.
It works but on a test call my voice sounds like I'm going for the "Extortionist of the Year" award! Have a listen here if you feel like a quick laugh - [URL]. Great effect for issuing ransom demands, but not too useful when calling family. Sometimes when I log on, I find that the theme (specifically the window borders and icons) didn't load properly, and that I instead get a set of grayish window borders (Raleigh, I believe) and the gray GNOME icons. Sometimes the window borders corrects itself, but the icons stay the same. Reloading compiz doesn't help, and the only solution I found was to logoff/logon.

I see references to this issue on various websites and I saw at least one reference to new drivers but alas they were all for windows. I checked the repository and I have the latest and greatest HPLIP. Does this mean I have all of the latest drivers?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had just upgraded when after the first reboot I noticed that the black Ubuntu screen (with the little red/white dots) is actually white and buggy. It's unreadable and looks trashed.
After the first login, the desktop wasn't able to load properly, leaving me with a blinking, unresponsive icons and no menubars.
The only way to use the desktop environment is to choose Ubuntu Classic (both with and without effects) and Ubuntu Safe Mode.
I do have nvidia drivers installed (173).
I'm using RedHat 9. I've already installed java and azureus/vuze too but when i run azureus there is a problem.

64bit Slack doesn't recognize my ethernet device. ifconfig -a show no eth0. It's an onboard nvidia MCP55 ethernet nic. Never had this problem using 32 bit Slack.

Can anyone get the website below to work correctly with Firefox 3.5 and F11 64bit?[URL]...All I see is the background scrolling slowly and jerkily, none of the buttons at the bottom work. Reboot into Windows 7 and IE8: the same site is fast, smooth, the buttons work and the product details appear correctly in the centre of the screen.

Anyone successfully installed AIR and iPlayer on F11?
I've switched to 32 bit Adobe flash, tried Autoten for AIR and Dangermouse's advice for iPlayer: url.html but it's not working, and trying to install AIR from url results in an endless busy downloading graphic .
I assume my problem is a lack of required packages, though I searched the repositories using YUM extender for the packages listed here: url.html and can't see them either as installed or available.
I want to install IBM Lotus Symphony on my 64 bit system, but yum only finds 32 bit version.

I bought a new laptop HP Pavillion dv3-4170ee that has Core i5 2.53ghz dual core with hyper threading, intel hd graphics and Ati Radeon HD 5470 512 mb dedicated. It came with windows 7 64bit. It also has 6 gb ram(2gb in first slot + 4 gb in the second one).I installed slackware 13.37 64 bit. It installed just fine. installed lilo onto mbr. When it boots up it shows the slackware screen. I am able to boot into windows just fine. When I select Linux it boots into linux bios data check successful. lots of stuff goes on the screen the normal linux boot stuff. and then it goes to the next screen and stays blank
Nothing happens and even the hard disk light is not blinking.By the way the HDD is Western Digital.
I have Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 / 2 GHz processor. i just upgraded my system with 4 memory sticks i.e. 7GB of RAM due to my requirements. Now the issue that i am facing is that my 32bit fedora system does not showing and suppoting more than 3.XX gigs of RAM when i consult "/proc/meminfo", "free -m" and "top". Now i have done two thing, first i have installed a PAE version of kernel. In result of this my system become two slow with the following error at startup. Error: starting udev: wait timeout. will continue in the background <Failed> Secondly, i installed a 64bit version of Fedora 10 but still it showing not more than 3GB of memory. I had Fedora 7 and Windows Vista dual booting on my computer. I just installed Fedora 10. When the live CD asked me where to install it, I chose "Remove all Linux Partitions and create default layout" The installation went perfectly, but now when reboot my computer, it boots directly into Fedora; GRUB does not load to ask me which OS I want to load. I know I did not overwrite Vista because I can still view my Vista files through Fedora. Here is my grub.conf file:
