Fedora :: Unable To Install Gtk+2.0 On 9 - Setting The PKG_CONFIG_PATH Env?
Mar 2, 2010
I am trying to install wireshark latest version on Fedora core 9. It has a dependency on gtk2.0 > 2.4, I tried installing gtk+2.18, But this sucks.GTK inturn has dependencies on glib(2.21), atk , pango and cairo. I have old version of glib i.e 2.16.6 which comes of fc9 distro. I downloaded and installed glib 2.22 from the source( ./compile, make and make install).
The installation was succesful, the libraries get generated in /usr/local/lib. After installing glib, still I get this error while installing gtk+2.
Error:
/////////////////

Objective: Create a guide to building the now orphaned pam_usb source for Laughlin and summarize the make/install process so that everyone can easily do their own make.
Sources:
http://pamusb.org/
1) Downloaded latest version:
Soundforge pam_usb
2) Resolved Dependencies:
sudo yum install libxml2-devel pam hal pmount python pam-devel hal-devel dbus-devel
3) Tried first make: cd ~/Downloads/pam_usb-0.4.2

I am facing problems when trying to install gtk+, I have downloaded all the required libraries, but the following output?
checking for BASE_DEPENDENCIES... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.21.3 atk >= 1.13.0 pango >= 1.20 cairo >= 1.6) were not met:
Requested 'glib-2.0 >= 2.21.3' but version of GLib is 2.12.3
No package 'atk' found
No package 'pango' found
No package 'cairo' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. you may set the environment variables BASE_DEPENDENCIES_CFLAGS and BASE_DEPENDENCIES_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.See the pkg-config man page for more details.

i ran into a problem while isntalling xine player on fedora 11, i first of all installed its core engine 'xine-lib' successfully with standard prefix! when i run the './configure' for its frontend (xine-ui) it gives this error.
No package 'libxine' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables XINE_CFLAGS and XINE_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.See the pkg-config man page for more details.

I'm trying to install the latest version of tracker - 0.8.15. When I run ./configure, I come up with an error like this:
Code:
checking for getline... yes
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for GLIB2... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.24.0) were not met:
No package 'glib-2.0' found
[Code]...
Surely the libglib2.0-0 package is some kind of replacement for glib-2.0? My understanding from the man page is that PKG_CONFIG_PATH is some way of linking to and checking requested packages... is this right? Can I change it to point at the libglib package instead?

I have xubuntu 9.10 and I'm trying to install iw-0.9.19.When I use the command "make" I get this error:
/bin/sh: pkg-config: not found
/bin/sh: pkg-config: not found
Makefile:38: *** Cannot find development files for any supported version of libnl. Stop. I read the Readme file and it says: "To build IW, just enter make. If that fails, set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable to allow the Makefile to find libnl". I guess the problem is linking Makefile (in iw-0.9.19 directory) to libnl (version 1.1 correctly installed on xubuntu) via pkg_config_file.

I never upgrade from one release to the other but rather do a completely new install. How can I keep my Gnome settings from the current release and somehow impose them after a new install. I am not sure which files/hidden files I should carry, save, possibly to a USB stick or whatever and a reasonable procedure to copy/impose them after the new install is stable.

My laptop is currently running on Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a 320 GB HDD, which I have partitioned as follows. C: Drive as Windows 40 GB capacity and successively partitioned the rest of the drives for 50 GB capacity and left an unallocated space of 67 GB for fedora 13 x64 installation. The problem that I am facing is, that I am unable to install fedora on this unallocated space..even though I am checking the option for "Creating custom Layout". When I check the option for "Creating Custom Layout" Ive been shown with the only option to install fedora on the unused space on the HDD which is around 265 GB. I am also attaching a screen shot of my disk management. how I can install Fedora on this unallocated space of 67 GB?

I'm using Karmic with Grub 2 (1.97b4) I have this strange problem going on and believe it might be a bug so if no resolution will file it on Launchpad. Whats happening is this:when I installed Karmic fresh a couple of months ago I never did anything with customising the Grub splash screen. I just stuck with the boring black/white and if I wanted to got to Memtest or my little used Win XP partition would just hit the down arrow when the Grub Splash appeared and go there.A couple of days ago I decided to add some custom colors to the splash screen as outlined in the Grub 2 documentation. I did this to both my desktop (Acer Aspire L100) and my laptop (Compaq) Everything looks fine except for one thing. On the desktop if I hit the down arrow (or any other key) it immediately boots the first option which of course is Karmic. It should have paused the timer and allowed me to scroll down. What this means is I can only boot Karmic at this time. This is only happening on the desktop!

My system boots in 1024x768 screen resolution. I'd like to change it to 1280x1024 for all users. I can change the setting to 1280x1024 and it's persistent between sessions, but is reset back to 1024x768 on reboot. In the old days, I used to edit xorg.conf to set the the mode I want, but now there's no xorg.conf. I created one using
xorg -configure
but this created an xorg.conf which has no modeline settings at all. The file just looks like a template. Here's what I got:
Quote:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
[Code].....

Last week I put together a new build:Asus p6t deluxe v2, i7 920, etc etc And installed Win7 RC which worked perfectly, however for the past couple days I've been trying to install Fedora but it seems to never work. The F11 Full disk cannot load anaconda during install, but still manages to install, however the installation cannot boot. The live disk loads, but then a black screen with eth0 and eth1 link is down pops up. So I tried other dists, Ubuntu 8.04 cannot boot, 9.04 boots and installs, but after reboot doesnt work. Anyone got any ideas as to why I cannot install Linux. Also in Win7, I cannot install Fedora as a VM. It just goes to 100% load while booting and such.
