I remember a friend of mine was able to get my computer to boot under CUI, and the command 'start x' started the GUI. with booting up my computer through CUI.

(This may be conincidental.) I then put the computer into suspend or hibernate or whatever and now it won't start up. At all. And I'm stuck as 'everything' I need is on that computer.

I have a pc trying to install fedora. It is an amd downloaded and tried to install different versions of fedora. The latest i686 and will get to a boot screen and when selecting boot will lock up at the i386 start kernal command and blinky curser. Yes I am new to linux and may need some hand holding. I have however successfully installed fedora on other computers a while back which is why I am not sure what is going on. It may be a hardware mismatch. I will try to see if I can find another computer to install. I used a different computer and is working. The athlon computer is not working.

As I reported in this bug:[URL].. root is not able to start an openvpn-connection via the "nmcli"-command to control NetworkManager, whereas my user does not run in any problems with this command. My error output when starting as root is as follows:

I'm trying to set up a dispatcher-script to automatically start openvpn on eth-connection. but this does throw the exact error from above (no valid vpn secrets..).

MY WORK TILL NOW: I have put this "script" command in the .profile.The when I start the terminal, it became an INFINITE LOOP.I am able to "echo".Thats coming only once.....but if I write a "script" command then it is becoming an INFINITE LOOP.
For some reasons I need to configure ubuntu in such way that it would turn off the computer if X-server or GDM hasn't started (but user is able to log in). By the way, what are the reasons for such situation besides errors with video drivers?

Last night my system rebooted and dropped screen resolution to 800*600. I was unable to change that from no where. I tried to install nvidia driver and now no gui, only command line. Starting xorg by using 'startx' fails. How I can get back to normal with normal resolution?At the moment I am logged in via live cd. Let me know if any log files needed (if I can locate those).

eth0 = 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.0.1. This is currently working, and I can ssh o the machine on this address
eth1 = 192.168.150.5 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.150.1
When I try and start eth1 with ifconfig eth1 up, I get the error message "eth1: unknown interface: no such device"
I have configured eth1 using system-config-network-tui and /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth1 looks correct

I recently install Ubuntu-studio Desktop and some other packages. And, I upgraded my System. But since then, the Grub has started to display (I have only 9.10 installed, using the entire Disk). Also, unless I select the entry, Grub does not automatically start. The startup takes nearly 1.5 minutes. And, the Login screen, after the installation of Ubuntu Studio GDM, is much slower. I removed the Ubuntu-studio GDM package, still it takes about 20 seconds to allow me to enter Username and password. Any idea?

If I go to its /bin/ dir and configure its setenv.sh and prog.sh to use local directories and my current user account. Then I try to run it via "./prog.sh start". Here are all the relevant bits of prog.sh:

When I actually do ./prog.sh start, it starts. But I can't find it at all on the process list. Nor can I kill it manually, using the same command the shell script uses. But I can tell it's running, because if I do ./prog.sh stop, it stops (and some temporary files elsewhere clean themselves out).

the process is running yet not in any way listed by the system. I can't find it in ps or /proc/, nor can I kill it. But the shell script can still stop it properly. So my question is, how can something like this happen? Is the process supremely hidden, actually unlisted, or am I just missing it in some fashion? I'm trying to figure out what makes this program tick.

I installed the .debs the first time and thought it might be wiser to install it from the experimental repos.So I reinstalled but there's no difference,I keep getting the error.
I reinstalled and found that the same error is caused by the installation for the dictionaries.I removed those but the error is still present.
I've seen people post this error on some forums except context=user and not bundle.However,it seems those were Windows 7 machines and that it's a 64 bit bug.
I'm also running the 64 bit version.
Also,if I try to install the desktop-integration .debs I get another error ( that is,if I remove the dictionaries,otherwise the installation runs just fine ) :

View 4 Replies View Related2nd and 3rd might be linux kernel problems but may help someone else so I included here.1st -- run level 4, /etc/rc.d/rc.4 and xdm -nodaemonJust installed 13.1 on an odd system, including building a new kernel.One thing I do is have the system boot to a command prompt and then run /etc/rc.d/rc.4 to start XBut I found that the rc.4 uses xdm -nodaemon flag and it was causing problems so I removed and all is pretty good. I still see some odd behavior with the virtual ttys sometimes.2nd -- when building a new kernel, I found I need the device-mapper butcouldn't tell if that was a linux kernel issue or something to do with lilo, I didn't want and don't need multiple disk devices like for LVM or MD so I didn't plan to have this enabled.3rd -- CONFIG_EXT4_USE_FOR_EXT23 When that kernel config option was selected and I have only an EXT4 filesystem, the filesystem was mounted as an EXT2, even though the kernel had no EXT2 feature. /etc/fstab specified EXT4 but the mount command showed EXT2. A silent problem that could leave an unpleasant surprise since EXT2 hos no journaling.4th -- I had to run lilo -C by hand in a virtual tty before finishing the install. This was what I had to do when installing 13.0 on different hardware. It seems that the lilo part of the install needs some sorting out.

Disaster happened when i rebooted computer: the computer cannot startup at all?Now, I don't know how to deal with it. I wanna know: what can i do to start up the computer into Windows? In my opinion, computer should work well without one system in dual-boot mode. If you format C: drive on which windows are installed, for instance, the computer can boot into FC10 normally. Right, so I downloaded first the ISO for ubuntu here: [URL]
And then proceeded to downloading the windows installer here: [URL]
However after "Successfully" Installing, I do not get a choice to boot from ubuntu on start-up...
I have tried several things;
Re-installing - To no effect Downloading EasyBCD, which tells me that I have No BCD file, and when I opened my Boot.ini file, it was blank... Also, there is no folder C:Boot....
Now I don't know what to do and am scared to re-start just incase it doesn't boot to anything...
I'd like to make all window of of all applications are located in the center of screen when they are started every single time, is there any way to do that ? of course,what i am saying that they are GUI apps, and when they are not started as maximum size window
