View 2 RepliesI am trying to compress a folder by right clicking and selecting Compress...I get the following error:
An error occurred while adding files to the archive. No such file or directory
I want the folder and its content to be compressed to a .ZIP file which is natively accessible by Windows.
I was wondering if there's any resource that explains how to use w3m. I checked the man page but this just lists the startup options. I also did some google searches but couldn't find anything useful. I was able to find bits and pieces of info on different sites (e.g. how to enter a URL, how to go back a page, etc.) but there was no site that had all this sort of information in one place.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am unable to Install Fedora10 in my system as one of the multiple operating systems and it gets hanged after probing for Hardware devices and so ...I get fedora trademark sought of symbol and even after waiting any amount of time it doesnt go further..neither the keyboard works nor the mouse pointer moves... I am stuck at this screen shown in the installation screenshot...I get this screen however I dont get the options back or next or its that I am unable to see this options on the screen at all and mouse gets hanged and even keyboard doesnt work...
[code]....
Initially after booting with the media it doesnt even prompt me to press any key to boot from CD or Dvd or I get any screen to select the option for the mode of installation like text based installation or graphical installation..it hardly shows me this screen for even a fraction of second as well...
It takes me to the screen
1) Install or upgrade fedora
2) rescue existing installation...
3)
4) Memory test
when I click on install fedora I am taken to the fedora splash screen and nothing goes ahead... I tried in rescue mode as well... In rescue mode it asks me for language selection...keyboard layout... later it doesnt go ahead as well... I have checked the installation media and it confirmed that the installation media is good... I use Redhat 4.1 version and It works fine except for the message drivers/usb/hid.c core message received at :75 while trying to restart shutdown or access a virtual console... Along with Redhat and while trying to install fedora I have windows server 2008,Windows vista on that harddisk...
I am trying to install 2 or 3 versions of linux on my hardisk of 500GB capacity. The configuration of my machine is Intel Dual Core, 4 GB Ram, 3.0 Processor Windows XP is not installed on this.I tried to use a tool called GParted but was unable to use as it was not able to bring up the XServer So I booted the machine with fedora14 installation CD and chose "Custom Layout" After reading about the partitions needed by Fedora I created 3 partitions in /dev/sda
/dev/sda1 the boot of 500MB formated as ext4
/dev/sda2 the swap of 6096MB formatted as swap
/dev/sda3 / size 150GB formatted as ext4
The installation went well and fc14 runs well on this.
However when I went to install the other linux version ....the installer was not able to recognize the unallocated space of nearly 350 GB on the hard disk.....So I am not able to create new partitions and then install the new linux on the newer partition. As a result I am unable to make use of the remaining space on the HDisk.I think I should have created /dev/sda4 /dev/sda5 etc when I installed fc14 itself....
Would appreciate some tips on how to install the other versions of Linux on this HDisk....
I need files to be <= 5GB to put on S3. Right now I have an ugly tar / gzip / cut before upload, then cat / zcat / tar on download, but it's really ugly - and nearly every archiver should support archive splitting right? What's the best way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to use my laptop at home, where I don't have internet access (don't ask, long story). My question are two-fold;
** How do I prevent various pieces of software trying to access the net for updates etc. I presume they are likely to hang, lock up, and generally cause trouble.
** Can anyone recommend a working practice for installing updates and/or new software, either from USB or CDROM/DVD? I have good (legitimate!) access to assorted computer facilities at my office. I am using 11.04
I've dled some CDs. Each one is a single FLAC wich i can play, But surely i should be able to access individual pieces recorded on the CDs?.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have written a CGI script which prints 2 tags at either end of the screen (actually they are the "Previous page" and "Next page" links for either end of the screen). The left one is under a <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> and the right one <DIV ALIGN="RIGHT"></DIV>. Unfortunately they don't line up on screen - the left "Previous page" text is one line higher than the "Next page" link - I tried putting in a <NOBR> tag between them but it didn't work - can someone tell me what to do?
View 7 Replies View Relatedif i run chromium with --enable-gpu-rendering flag chromium's display looks like it's shattered into thousands of pieces and I can't understand a thing. This doesn't happens if I have a previous instance of chromium opened in the usual way, without any flag. In this case if I open another chromium window with the --enable-gpu-rendering flag it's display looks ok, but I can't figure out what's the problem and how could this be fixed if there's solution for it of course.

dd if=/dev/sdb2 of=/home/sam/partition.image bs=4096 conv=notrunc,noerror

I just read in my Linux+ resources that it is not a wise idea to compress tar files with gzip if my tape drive supports compression. In addition, the resources mention that using gzip for tar files runs the risk of data lost if an error occurs with the compression.
Does anyone compress tar files for major backups/restore policies?

I found one strange issue with ubuntu, can anyone suggest if its a bug or as designed? If I have two nameservers in my resolv.conf, ubuntu only checks the first (and receives a not found reply from there) and never goes to the next two nameservers. This behaviour is very different from windows or other linux systems.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have a bash script that runs and backs up my daily files onto a separate partition using Rsync, but I thought it would be good to use the Ubuntu-one service as an ADDITIONAL backup for really important files.
How do I compress then encrypt those files, and can I add any commands that will do this to my existing bash script?

I have a compressed text file. The method of compress is unknown.I can see the file contents by using Midnight Commander without a problem but I would like to view the file just with cat. So I am trying to uncompress the file with unzip or gunzip but it does not work. How to check the method the file is compressed with? Is any way to find it with Midnight Commander?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to recreate my initrd.img after having extracted its contents. Bash by itself; pointing me to similar threads in this forum and google are useless to me and a waste of everyone's time as that has all failed. I need a working example. Apparently, I am supposed to use this bash command (s): "zcat ../initrd.gz | cpio -i -d." The preceding command is unintelligible to me. I cannot compress the initrd.img file and folders back into an initrd.gz file with a compression level of 9, so that I can rename with a .img extension.
My understanding of recompressing folders back into the initrd.img: Google and this forum all point to bash involving either zcat or cpio and then gzip with a compression level of 9. However, I require exacting instructions for using these commands to compress the folders that have been extracted from the initrd.img back into one homogenous initrd.gz archive so that that the created initrd.gz can be renamed initrd.img
Note: posting bash without that an example is a waste of everyone's time as I found that on Google and it was useless as I lack the requisite computer science degree or years of Linux guru experience needed to figure out how to specify the arguements proprerly. What I need is a working example, not just bash.
Note2: To save time, the answer to why I need to edit the initrd.img is this: Two different utilities (based upon the same parent system & kernel) use the same initrd and the same file paths. When they are installed on separate partitions and the one farthest from the mbr is selected for boot, it will begin to boot and then switch to the one closest to the mbr, which results in a failed boot. If one is removed, the other boots fine, so it's not a menu.lst or a lilo config problem.
in imagemagick,i have a png format picture, but it seems too big for me,i wanna compress it ...how can i do ...command line...Code:convert "png.png" -strip -units PixelsPerInch -density 96 -quality 60 "png2.png"this command can't compress the picture, the worse is: the size will be bigger...
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there is anyway, with tar, zip, gzip, or any file compression type to compress without causing high CPU. In other words, limit how hard the CPU works to compress it? Of course I understand that this would cause the compression to take longer but time isn't too big of a concern.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Nvidia Quadro NVS 440 with four 1280x1024 LCD monitors and Ive tried to upgrade Kubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04. Everything works well at 9.10. After upgrade, system is hanging and I cannot reach desktops in all monitors. Ive tried to reconfigure x server using Nvidia-settings control panel. This doesnt work. So i tried to reinstall system from CD, because there should be something wrong with the upgrade, but the problem persist. Ive tried to reinstall with Ubuntu, but there is same problem.
My configuration of screens are: Screen 3 left of Screen 0, Screen 0, Screen 1 above Screen 0 and Screen 2 right of Screen 1, separate X screens and Xinerama enabled. Sometimes, if i reach upper edge of Screen 0, mouse will continue at the lower edge of screen 0. Screen 3 is not reachable and If I try to move mouse to it, system will hang and x server is automaticaly restarted. Ive tried to configure all screens with absolute positioning too, but this doesnt work either. My only option now is downgrade to 9.10 .
I'm trying to split a text file into various parts. Everything in between "123" and "break" (including linebreaks) goes into the splitted file.
e.g. using this text file:
This should split into 4 files. However I'm only getting 2 files: one for the line "123break" and one for "123 blah break". The two occurrences that contain linebreaks are being ignored. The .* part of my match should capture linebreaks seeing that I'm using the /s modifier shouldn't it? Even when I use the match /(123 break)/gs it still doesn't capture the first occurrence. I'm using Perl v5.12.3 (from ActiveState) on Windows XP. The text file is also in Windows format.
Code listed below.
The above code generates two files Output_1.txt and Output_2.txt which contain "123break" and "123 blah break" respectively. I want it to generate four files.
I'm looking for a way to compress a large file (~10GB) into several files that wont exceed 150MB each.
Any thoughts?
