Fedora :: Setup Kdump In Case Machine Crashes

Mar 9, 2009

I would like to set up Kdump in case my machine crashes (and it still does frequently) to send the message to putty running on my windows machine (or to my other server running fedora 8).

My preference goes to the windows machine, but I have no clue how to set it up. Is it possible to get the "screen dump" on my windows putty?

My server crashes downloading torrents at high speeds (which is kind of what I want to do)

Fedora :: F15 Still Crashes On Multi Monitor Setup

Jun 5, 2011

I have asked about this issue before to no avail but since then I have been able to narrow down the main cause of the crashes. My setup:

HD5770 - Running 2 19" LCD's
HD3300 onboard Running 1 47" lcd

Whenever I am in firefox and have pictures open in the browser and move the mouse to the other 19" monitor it crashes, not everytime but often enough to be annoying. Sometimes when it crashes the screen goes blank and I wind up at the login screen, other times it just goes blank and stays blank.

Fedora :: Setup Samba Share In Machine?

Slackware :: Mkisofs -iso-level 1 Converts To Lower Case Instead Of Upper Case?

Oct 28, 2010

Kernel 2.6, Slackware 12.0
mkisofs 2.01

I do 'mkisofs -iso-level 1 -o image John Smith.txt'. Only an example. When I mount image, ls outputs john_smi.txt. So it has shorten to 8.3 and translated ' ' into '_'. This is in accordance with the manual, although it doesn't say the conversion will be done.

Quote:

-iso-level level
.........................
With all iso9660 levels from 1..3, all filenames are restricted to upper case letters, numbers and the underscore (_).
...........................

However, as it did not reject the file name, it should have converted it to all upper case, it seems to me. And -iso-level 2|3 does the same thing.

Code:

root@darkstar:~# mkisofs -iso-level 1 -o image John Smith.txt
Total translation table size: 0
Total rockridge attributes bytes: 0
Total directory bytes: 0

Red Hat / Fedora :: Setup And Configure A Server Entirely With Text Only Run Mode 3 On A Virtual Machine

Feb 24, 2011

I'm trying to setup and configure a server entirely with text only run mode 3 on a virtual machine so I can redo my current live server. I'm now trying to set up the firewall of the system using iptables. I've read up on it and came up with the following:

-clear all rules
#iptables -F
-set default policy rules
#iptables --policy INPUT DROP
#iptables --policy FORWARD DROP

[Code]....

Everything above worked for me but just out of interest I looked at my live server which was configured using a GUI. I ran iptables-save and it was pretty much the same but its port open lines read like this:

#iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW --dport 80 -j ACCEPT

so finally my question is do I really need the "-m state --state NEW"? Wouldn't having that drop established connections on those ports? I'm just confused as to what exactly the NEW state is doing and would it make a difference if I didn't include it.

Fedora Networking :: Setup A LAN With An FC14 Laptop - FC15 PC And A Windows Machine Running XP?

Jun 27, 2011

Trying to set up a LAN with an FC14 laptop, FC15 PC and a Windows machine running XP. I have SAMBA installed on both FC machines, but neither of them can see shares on each other or the XP machine. I can ping between all of them. The Windows machine sees all of the SAMBA shares.

When I attempt to Connect to Server under Places on the FC15 PC, I do not have a Windows share option to choose from as I do on the laptop, suggesting smbclient isn't configured correctly on that machine. SMB, NMB and WINBIND are installed and activated on startup on both FC machines. Although I have the Windows share option on the FC14 laptop, it will only connect with the IP address.

Firewalls and SELinux on both machines are disabled. Here are some configuration details:

rpm -qa | grep samba
samba-3.5.8-68.fc15.1.x86_64
samba-winbind-3.5.8-68.fc15.1.x86_64

CentOS 5 Networking :: Setup The Cluster To Automatically Failover The Service To Another Node Case One Node Fails?

Mar 1, 2011

I am familiar with windows 2008 cluster servers, and I just started testing with centos cluster. I am creating a simple 2-node cluster, for a simple ping test.

Node 1: 10.0.0.1
Node 2: 10.0.0.1
Virtual ip: 10.0.0.10

So far, I can ping a virtual ip, and manually relocate it between the nodes, but I didn't figure out, how to do this automatically. So this is my question: How can I setup the cluster, to it automatically failover the a service to another node case one node fails?

Server :: Kdump Doesn't Result In Dumps?

Feb 14, 2010

I have a dumb question but the google can't seem to answer it. When (if?) my host locks up (RHEL 5.4) I generally don't get anything in /var/crash . kdump is configured correctly and works (if tested using ` echo "c" > /proc/sysrq-trigger` as per Red Hat's KBase article) but in the real world, when the system locks up nothing ever ends up there.

So, on to the dump ( ) question - I have to crash it using Ctrl + SysRq in order to get anything out of this, right. If the box is comatose and doesn't respond at all to the point of being power cycled, it's all gone isn't it? Volatile memory being what it is and all; or is there some sort of magic / voodoo in place that makes it survive the reboot. And no, my Dell PowerEdge 1950 doesn't have battery backed RAM, so i'm quite sure that unless i can kill it through sysrq ...

CentOS 5 :: Can't Get Kdump To Generate Dump Files?

Dec 7, 2010

I'm posting because I've read everything I can find on google and in the forum and the man page and still can't get it to work. I did read the FAQ, I hope I have adhered to it.I've tried several things and I don't remember exactly everything I tried and in what order.I've got several (12) HP ProLiant DL140 G3 servers running CentOS 5 that lockup about once a week. These are in a remote colo cage so I all i have access to is the built-in HP lights-out management interface, which includes a console, and ssh. I've been trying to get kdump setup to try to figure out what's going on. As an aside, if I run top on the console (via the management interface) the servers stay up for about a week, if I don't run top they crash within about 48 hours.I've used yum update to update to the latest available kernel (2.6.18-194.26.1.el5.x86_64) and installed the debuginfo and debuginfo-common RPMs from http://debuginfo.centos.org/5/x86_64/I have a single command in the /etc/kdump.conf file:ext3 /dev/sda5

Debian Configuration :: Using Kdump-tools For A Forced / Staged Panic

Apr 23, 2016

I'm having some issues creating output from kdump-tools. (Initially to diagnose some system freezes when using wine, but now I can't a staged panic to work and provide proper output.)

I initially started following what is stated at this link: https://www.bentasker.co.uk/documentati ... ian-jessie

Where basically the author says:

Code: Select allapt-get install kdump-tools crash kexec-tools makedumpfile `uname -r`-dbg

to get all relevant tools.

Then in /etc/default/kdump-tools edit the following to :

Code: Select allUSE_KDUMP=1

in /etc/default/grub I edit the following line to the following :

Code: Select allGRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet crashkernel=128M"

followed by update-grub. Then I get the pleasure of rebooting.

once I'm back in my system, I do the following.

Code: Select allecho 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger

The system freezes, but does not dump any relevant information or reboot. It just hangs.

I know that you need to set the CoreDumpDirectory directive in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf and run "ulimit -c unlimited" from the command line (and restart apache after the ulimit command). But, on a reboot, even though the output of "ulimit -a" shows unlimited, apache2 will not create a core dump file unliess you set ulimit -c unlimited again and restart apache2. There must be a way to configure apache2.conf or something so that ulimit -c unlimited is set prior to apache2 starting, no?

Fedora :: File Name Globbing No Longer Case Sensitive In Core 12?

Dec 31, 2009

Some of my files and directories were mysteriously disappearing and some of my shell scripts were failing after the upgrade to Fedora Core 12. After some debugging I found out that file name globbing is no longer case sensitive in Fedora Core 12, that is

rm -rf [a-z]*

now also trashes all files and directories starting with [A-Z], which explains the removed files and directories

and

ls [a-z]*

now also includes files and directories starting with [A-Z], which caused my shell scripts to fail.

Is this a bug or a 'feature'?

Fedora Servers :: TFTP Case Insensitive To File Name Requested

Jun 19, 2010

I am downloading some files via tftp from the server (call it my server) and I need the server to be case insensitive to the file names requested. That is If I request "SoMe.TTL" and the actual file name is "some.ttl" it should send "some.ttl" back! Right now it is case sensitive and is a pain in the but because some windows clients upload files to that directory and the names can have any case. Furthermore, the file request mechanism must allow the user to input the required file name, hence the user can write using any case. Can the tftp-server solve cases by it's own? How about dnsmasq's internal tftp server? Ok, maybe I wasn't explicit above:
I need to make the fedora tftpd-server Case Insensitive!

CentOS 5 :: Setup APC Back-UPS ES 350 On KDE Server Machine?

installing my APC Back-UPS ES 350. I am using CentOS 5 KDE setup as a DNS Resolving Caching Name Server, I wanted increase speeds and privacy since I got a letter and didn't like that not one bit, a tv show but whatever. It is very secure now, using peerblock with Iblock List subscribed to for the one year and it is so secure that I have to disable peerblock if I want to use online banking and what not.

setup the APC unit, haven't experienced APC and CentOS is new to me, I didn't want to buy a windows server, so I used BIND instead and well I love CentOS, can't wait to really understand it a lot better, also logging into root is so nice and easy vs Ubuntu, very cool.

I also do not have a DD-WRT supported router nor a Docsis 3 modem, docsis 2, I believe this should give me a lot more speed. currently I just get 11-17Mbps, I am hoping this will bump me back up to 35-37Mbps which I get off and on but unstable.
