It's an HP DX2300 running Fedora 13, I think it has NVidea chipset, my other computer is similar machine running Redhat 5.5 and it does 1680x1050 with the same monitor.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy graphics card just died so I bought a Radeon HD 4350. My monitor is an Acer AL1916W whose default resolution is 1440x900. So I reinstalled Fedora 14 with KDE but I can't set the resolution higher than 1024x768 because that is the highest available.

I rebooted but still no dice. I saw a video on ..... using a graphical tool to modify the monitor settings but it seemed to be a Gtk application and I rather not use Gnome applications in KDE (not that I don't like Gnome, but I don't like to mix applications).
I installed Debian 8 Jessie with the GNOME 3 desktop environment and I couldn't get pass the login screen after several reboots. Since I read that NVIDIA graphics are problematic, I decided to reinstall the system but selected Mate desktop, which appears to be less graphic intensive than GNOME 3. It worked. However, I can't get a higher resolution than 1024x768 (In Windows I could). The Mate settings in the "System → Preferences → Monitors" does not show higher resolutions.
The information of the graphics card is this:

Before I try to install proprietary drivers as instructed in [URL] ...., I'd like to see if there's anything to try first with the default stuff installed by the system, because that page says:
As of jessie, the need for the proprietary drivers is pretty much over - nouveau now works quite well and works with dual-headed displays by simple and easy configuring from within your desktop(for KDE see System_Settings/Hardware/Display_and_Monitor/Display_Configuration) . The proprietary drivers don't provide normal logging and can be a hidden source of problems.
Recently I have acquired 2-port KVM switch. When the monitor is connected through this KVM in Windows 7 resolution is properly detected - 1280x1024. When I go under Linux (openSUSE 11.4 with KDE, nVidia 260.19.44) there is a problem with the resolution. In the screen settings does not appear a resolution higher than 1024x768. How do I set the desired resolution in Linux?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a real fight with an Nvidia 6100 video under 11.2. I cannot get anything besides 1024x768 or 800x600 resolution with any technique besides doing an upgrade installation over an existing 11.1 system. I want 1440x900 for this wide screen LCD and that works with the upgrade install but that gets me into other problems with versions and other stuff - not a desireable choice.
OK. I know that the Nvidia driver (190.53) works as all is well under the upgrade. When I do a totally clean installation or a clean install with the existing /home I get a default 1024x768. If I use sax2 to try and change it one of two things happens: the change is ignored or I drop to 800x600 and the ball game is over: I'm stuck there, period. Other than a couple of commented-out lines, xorg.conf is the same as it was or 11.1 (and back to 10.1 after allowing for version changes) after running sax2 but even nvidia-settings won't give anything beyond 1024x768 if I try and use that.
I've been through the how-to stuff and back messages here but I'll be darned if I can force the desired 1440x900. I had a similar issue with 10.2 or so where the only way to get it right the first time was to set the desired resolution to 1440x900 during the hardware setup during the installation but that seems to have disappeared along with xorg.conf which only appears after running sax2. I can't even use the manual diting tricks in xorg.conf I've had to use with some cards - it seems to be completely ignored and I can't see any real problem with it anyway once sax2 builds it. On a couple of machines with later version of the Nvidia video everything is working as expected, at least with GF 6800 and higher video.
I got myself a brand new pc, it has an asrock z68 pro3 motherboard and an i2500k proc. the screen is a dell u2311h the problem is i cannot get the resolution higher then 1280*1024. with 10.10 the monitor works perfectly, but the system crashes. so i want to use 10.04, which seems quite stable on my hardware.

I am using Mercury p4VM800 mother Board and Intel PIV 2 GHz Processor. I have installed the fedora 10 Today. My screen resolution was automatically set to 650x480 and this is the only option available in graphical mode. I am not able to increase the resolution to 1024x768. I once again reinstalled the F10. during the installation, in the boot: option I have entered 'linux resolution=1024x768', but it won't work.

My graphics card is the onboard Intel g41 express chipset which is - for sure -capable of bringing a higher resolution than this. I googled on this and found that i have to edit the xorg.conf file to add the required resolution mode with no luck. Moreover, I learned that Fedora has dropped the xorg.conf usage since the 10th release, which further implies that there should be a more elegant solution than editing this file. Is is a drivers problem? i searched for a linux drivers for this card with no luck.

I couldn't fix it, so i reinstalled fedora 11. Couldn't fix it. Reinstalled Windows XP, then reinstalled fedora 11, and it fixed. Now, 12 hours on, it has gone back to 800x600. How can i fix this?!

I have just installed Fedora 10 and all went well except that the resolution is set to 1024x768, which is not cool on a 22" HP w2207h LCD monitor. When I bring up Monitor Resolution Setting the Mirror Screens is checked and 1024x768 is the highest resolution. If I uncheck Mirror Screens and select "Laptop" I am able to select 1680x1050, but it now has my desktop in the upper left hand corner of my monitor. Should I be looking for a driver for my i845G graphics processor?
PS: I am new to using Linux please be patient with my ignorance.
I've recently been messing with installing Fedora 14 an older computer I have and I've hit a snag. While everything else seems to be just honky dory, I cant get the screen resolution to go higher than 848x480. I know that the screen I'm using supports at least 1024x768 (possibly higher, i don't know) as another computer I have will display at that on it with no problem.
I've spent literally hours mucking about with xrandr, and xorg.conf (had to create it cause it didn't exist)As an addendum: the GUI monitor preferences screen says "Unknown" for the monitor I'm using, where as the xorg.conf file i created accurately detects it as Vendor "NEC" ModelName "PX-50VP" That's not really a big deal though, just a minor quirk I would think.
I searched the archives and didn't find anything on this, and was just wondering if there is a problem if you load Ubuntu 9.1 and have a display that's higher than 1024x768. I'd prefer a machine with a higher res, but I've heard that Ubuntu will only go as high as 1024x768.I'm guessing, however, that by 9.1, it should recog the higher res while loading and it won't be a problem, but thought I'd check before shelling out on a machine with a nicer display.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a server with Fedora 13 x86_64 installed that uses gnome as the desktop. Recently I purchased a generic KVM switch for my office. When I connect this to the server the video res drops back to 1024x768 instead of 1200x1024. I did some research and apparently Fedora 13 no longer uses the Xorg.conf file for display setup, it detects the hardware in the fly when you boot and uses the appropriate drivers (unless one exists in the /etc/X11 folder).
The specs for the KVM say that it can do way more than 1200x1024 so I can't see a problem with that. Also I tested it with a windows installation and I was able to obtain 1200x1024 resolution. The video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and the current driver being loaded is the nouveau according to lspci. When connected to the KVM the display widget in gnome wont detect the monitor or graphics card anymore. I used system-config-display to change the display settings and it created this Xorg.conf file -

Well i have HP D2832. A very old CRT Monitor from HP which have resolutions supported upto 1300 one but i can't get the resolutions after 1024x768. I want to get 1152x864 and cannot work to get it show in Monitors Panel.
In monitors panel it shows: Monitor: Unknown.
I cannot get 1024x768 resolution permanently in my screen. When i go and adjust it in the kde personalize setting in the display menu everything seems to work. But after i reboot the system, the resolution again changes. Then i have to again configure it to 1024x768. Also i cannot find sax in openSUSE 11.3.

Note the last line marked (**) - "from config file", but I only have 1280x1024 there ! And what does that mean

Can't set screen resolution 1024x768 permanently. There is no tools like sax2 which is in openSUSE 11.2. I am to set screen resolution to 1024x768 every time after loggin in.
