I am stuck with Fedora 13 due to the fact that clutter has some nasty bug which colides with the nvidia binary blob driver (I _require_ CUDA _and_ usable 2D/3D). So the new version is out since some days ago but not yet in rpmfusion. So did anyone give 260.19.29 a shot and does the 2D/3D UI still lag?
View 14 RepliesI am experiencing the following issue. After enabling SLI and PhysX in windows vista, my dual boot fedora 10 does not see the NVIDIA driver.
Doing: cat /proc/drivers/nvidia/0 I get? in the VGA bios for both cards.
I disabled both SLI and PhysX in vista, but the problem persists. I powerdown and unplugged the rig for several hours without results.
Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel Q9300
Board: MSI P7N Diamond
CARD0: EVGA Gforce 8800 GTS
CARD1: EVGA Gforce 8800 GTS
RAM : 4 Gbytes OCZ gold PC6400 (4 x 1 Gbytes)
PSU : Thermaltake SLI ready 850 W
It is important to mention that initially Fedora did see the cards and I was able to set up a dual monitor system. It right was after I enable SLI and PhysX and re-booting into Linux that the problem showed up.
I have seen this issue before in another machine with an ASUS board, but not until today I associated with the SLI setup. My guess is that there has to be something that the driver is enabling in the cards that messes up the interface between the nvidia.ko module and the kernel, but I don't know what may fix it. I need this system for some numerical calculations.
i installed the new beta 10.04 and it seemed right after the install and update that both nvidia hardware drivers were automatically install together. i deactivated both drivers. one driver showed the nvidia 173 driver and the other one showed "current" nvidia driver.
after a restart i then tried to activate the 173 driver. system required a restart. so i did. system booted to a black screen. i believe its at the desktop but i am unable to see it. i tried to hit esc at the boot screen to enter the grub menu but that didnt work.
I have some trouble installing the nvidia driver on Fedora12. I started to follow the guide posted by Leigh here:[URL]..I enabled the rpmfusion repo, but when i wanted to install kmod-nvidia and xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 i had a depadency failure Here's what i got:

I've installed the nvidia driver from nvidia website. I don't want to mess up my system So my question is how can I uninstall this nvidia driver? (I want to install the one from youm repo)
And my second question - when I'll be installing my nvidia drivers from repo, this is the best way to go: [URL]
I'm somewhat new to Fedora but not Linux in general. I went to install the nvidia driver as per any instructions I found on the internet that yielded results. I typed sudo yum install kmod-nvidia and eventually got a driver, blacklisted nouveau, restarted, and finally got compiz and all my desktop effects.
The problem was when I played Minecraft, which for those who don't know is a game, from a .jar file. After ~5 minutes of playing something happens and everything freezes. Video completely stops but I still have mouse control and sound(at least for anything already running). Clicking stuff does nothing and no hotkeys work to bring up anything at all. I end up having to do a reset by hand to get anything done. Turning off desktop effects didn't help.
Why is this? Did I install the wrong driver, even though kmod-nvidia should find the right one on it's own? nvidia 8800 GT is my card. Could it be the java program screwing things up royally? I can't remember if the program worked fine on it's own before the driver install, but uninstalling the driver now causes the game to fail on launch, which I guess makes sense but can't figure out if it's simply the lack of driver or if removing the driver screwed something else up. I might just reinstall fedora and start from scratch again, but before I did that I wanted to find out if I'm just installing the wrong driver and can simply find teh right one to fix all of this.
I had to have the Nvidia Driver build a module to my kernel. It goes through, says it was successful, but I an unable to start X and get this log:

Its an Nvidia 8200 integrated graphics card... Not sure if there is a wrong driver or the driver is in a different location then where Fedora is looking.
Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:

I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?
Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?
I have Fedora 10 installed. I've just made an update of my system. Things that were updated were a new kernel version with devel and also something with NVIDIA (which is my video card).
After restart of my system, compiz fusion no longer works.
I have a NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.82-pkg1.run -file to manually install the NVIDIA-driver so the advanced features of Compiz can be utilized.
After install, the bootup screen tells me that loading the NVIDIA driver has failed. I also receive a WARNING-message.
I have set this up before (ie installed the drivers and had them working perfectly) but had to do a system wide re-install of fedora. Since this clean install, I've had non-stop grief with nVidia drivers. They have been downloaded and installed via yum, and on start-up nvidia.ko loads. But from with gnome I cant gain access to any 'special effects' (ie desktop effects wont enable).

View 10 Replies View RelatedI updated my fedora 12 GNOME installation. Now Compiz fusion is not working. It says Accelerated 3D support not found. Though Nvidia drivers are already installed. Now I can't even ALT+TAB between open applications.
I tried "metacity -- replace" but then windows wore a weird look with only a minimize button. No sign of maximise & close buttons.
I have the Package nouveau-0.0.16-6.20100423git13c1043.fc13.x86_64 installed. Max resolution I can have is 800*600, can't seem find a linux driver for nvs on the nvidia site.

I installed nvidia graphics card on my fedora 13. It is not starting since then. Just the logo of fedora comes up, progresses, and it stops. What can be done to boot the os?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving just updated various files including the kernel using Package Manager I no longer seem to have the correct version of the Nvidia graphics driver. On previous updates this has been done automatically by the "kmod Nvidia" Metapackage. My last kernel was 2.6.32.19-163 fc12.i686.PAE and the Nvidia driver for that did get downloaded correctly. Looking on Yumex I cannot see a driver for this latest kernel listed.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have followed the Nvidia driver guide exactly. I did not see any errors during the four-step process. However, on the last reboot the system gets as far as the fedora "f" on the startup screen and hangs. This appears completely fatal. I have tried the procedure a couple of times now and the result has been to reinstall Fedora 14 from scratch each time. I have been able to access the system files after the crash using the system rescue option on the installation disk. I am on the Gnome X86_64 installation. My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI installed the proprietary nVidia driver on my Fedora 14 x86_64 laptop, but then went back to the nouveau driver. Now System Monitor won't launch. From the command line I get:
$ ksysguard
ksysguard: error while loading shared libraries: libnvidia-tls.so.260.19.21: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I reinstalled it, which went without error, but I still get the same error as above. I also tried installing libnvidia-tls, but yum just said there is no such package. Of course, the package is part of the nVidia proprietary driver package, but I don't want to reinstall that. I have the KDE desktop installed, but normally I boot to Gnome. How can I get ksysguard to run again?
Currently I have F15 running with the nouveau driver. What is the advantage of installing the nvidia driver?

Now my system hangs on "starting udev" during boot.I have tried many combinations of boot options in an effort to blacklist the problematic driver. Attached is a picture of my boot screen after specifying the options "single init 3 modprobedebug", and removing the options "rgbh quiet". For some reason I am having a lot of trouble blacklisting the correct module, or maybe I caused a kernel problem, which in that case is beyond me.Also, boot option syntax question: can I specify something like "rdblacklist=*nvidia*" using wildcards?

Now, i had an ATI Radeon x1950 and was using the open-source drivers with Fedora 11 and worked fine apart from maximum resolution was 1024x768. So knowing that Nvidia's Linux support was far superior i shelved out on a new GPU the GeForce 9500GT. I tried "yum install kmod-nvidia" - restarted and then the system loads using the nouveo drivers... So i blacklisted the nouveo drivers and changed the xorg.conf file to use the nvidia driver. Restarted, now its using the vesa driver! Blacklisted the vesa driver and after restarting its still picking up the vesa driver! So... i then head to nvidia's site, download the latest driver from there, shut down X-Server, installed them, restarted..... and still using the blumin vesa drivers!
I am having a world of trouble getting my old GeForce2 MX400 to work in a fresh install of Fedora 10. I included the RPMFusion directories, so my yum repolist includes:
rpmfusion-free RPM Fusion for Fedora 10 - Free enabled : 324
rpmfusion-free-updat RPM Fusion for Fedora 10 - Free - Update enabled : 0
But when I type yum list | grep nvidia, nothing comes up. When I type yum install kmod-nvidia or yum install akmod-nvidia, it says there's no package like this. Have these been updated for Fedora V10 yet? If they haven't, I guess I will just have to use another distro. BTW, when I tried installing the driver from the NVIDIA website, it says it needs to recompile the Kernel, and after installing gcc and make, it still gave some weird error about how with kernel 2.6 it can't find the proper kernel headers or something like that. I heard somebody post that you shouldn't use the NVIDIA drivers, they mess up OpenGL, you should you Livna kmod-nvidia.
1) Would you recommend livna kmod-nvidia or Nvidia's own driver's for a GeForce2 MX400 and Fed 10?
2) Whichever you recommend, could you give some clue how to get around either problem I'm having?
i have downloaded nvidia drivers,but the problem is,how to install in correct ways because i have tried so many times but the errors still there..the error is ****you appear to be running an x server,exit x before installing.

I somehow managed to get into the console and .. there's something wrong with the video card driver ( no way I could catch it into a picture ).
This was the exact reason why my Fedora CD was laying on the corner for months - I remember having this issue earlier as well.
Is there a way to fix it or at least, recover from a broken video card driver ?
I am running fedora 11 64bit version and just installed cedega to run a few games. I have Nvidia Geforce 9800M GTS 1GB graphics card. and installed my graphics drivers via: yum install kmod nvidia. i downloaded and installed the cedega application from the Cedega download

I used leighs post to install the nvidia driver for Fedora 12 and now plymouth does not work it uses the text theme. Right before it goes into the text theme I get this message:
"Unknown boot option `nouveau.modeset=0' : ignoring"
for more than 5 months i've been trying to install my nvidia G105M driver on fedora 11 without any results but the famous 6 little screens.
i've even megrated to ubuntu cause the've overrided this problem with modifying the xorg file...and it worked like a charm also with opensuse
now when i tried to use this same method with fedora 12 (which i've been waiting for for about a year..as i hated fedora 11) i can't even see the 6 screens...no GUI..
i don't really like ubuntu that much...actually i prefer fedora over any other distro..
i ran yum update which updated kernel to 2.6.31.9.174.fc12.i686.PAE. Now after logging in i get a blank white screen. With previous kernel updates i have had no such problem. Anyway, the boot messages are following:

I have a GF 6600 video card.
To use games and other intensive applications, but with the switch I completely lost control of the brightness for the monitor. Is their a way to configure that, through the terminal or external application. If not, is there an experimental 3d version of nouveau I could try. Help would be appreciated, everything else works great so far.
