It really is an excellent piece of software, though unfortunately it doesn't play well with Gnome. And I REALLY don't want to switch to KDE. Their website hasn't been updated in awhile, and their powers-that-be are requesting help with programming one. If it doesn't exist is their anyone that I could request/beg/bribe to make one?

Jun 4, 2011I installed Fedora 15 on my netbook the other day and I decided that I will remove everything but the absolutely needed to make things lighter, faster and less time/power consuming. I thought that GDM isn't needed on a single-user machine. Maybe I can remove it and have a script run on boot and take care of (auto-)loging in and starting the DE? (Xfce, but I plan switching to openbox/fluxbox and 3rd party panels/widgets etc). Is it possible? (and does it worth it?)

Jul 26, 2010I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.

The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.

Sep 21, 2009I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others.And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist?It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.

Feb 19, 2010I need to flash my BIOS to get rid of an error: "Intel uCode loading error". On [URL] I have found a tutorial, that looks to be fine. I can even see in the comments, that somebody have done this with success from Ubuntu 9.04, the very same system, that I use. Nevertheless I cannot make this bootCD with my Ubuntu 9.04, as it doesn't know the loop option to mount the image.
In the tutorial it says: "Requirements for this step is that you have support for the vfat and loop file systems in the kernel. Or you can have those features compiled as modules. In the latter case you can load the modules before the next step, like this:
modprobe vfat
modprobe loop"
loop doesn't seem to be present in my system, and the command modprobe loop returns an error that the module is not available. I tried to follow the tutorial anyway, but with no success. How can I get the module lopp? I also want to use it to make iso images bootsble from the harddisk.
Fedora :: Rip .cue CD Images With ID3 Tag Automatically?
Aug 15, 2010I'm looking for a way to convert .wav/.cue file pairs to their respective tracks in flac format, with ID3 tags from the .cue file. Preferably I would like to be able to do this in such a way that the new tracks would be copied to the appropriate %Artist%/%Album%/%trackno% %title%.flac location. Back in the days when I would go out of the car and back in when it didn't work, I would mount the .cue/wav file pair with Alcohol52, and use Windows Media Player to do the rest of the ripping for me. I'd like to be able to do something similar in Fedora.
I've looked around, but most threads talk about cuebreakpoints and shnsplit. Surely, I could do the job with those, but then I'd need to rename the files manually, copy them to the correct location manually, and input the ID3 data manually. This is very time consuming, and I'm trying at all costs to avoid this. I've already called Google several times, but his phone is turned off. How could I do the conversion in an automated way, preferably without going to Mr. terminal's office?

Jul 15, 2009I have a problem with images showing up as black boxes in konqueror, firefox, galeon, etc. I originally thought the problem was Firefox related, so I updated and the problem is still there.
I can't find anything with search that matched this exactly, so if I overlooked.
It seems to me that any time an image is re-sized it shows up as a black box. If I look at a wallpaper that's large, say 1200 x 800 or something, and the browser tries to resize it, it comes up black. However, if I click the same image and it returns to it's actual size, it looks perfect, as it should.
I look at a website I have to individually view each image and this is beginning to drive me crazy!
I have an Acer 5515 Laptop, with a ATI Express X1200 graphics card. I have taken a snapshot of when it happens.

Feb 8, 2010Usually I use Dragon Player most of the time. It plays low resolution files fine but somehow has trouble decoding the 1080p/30p video clips I shot with my Sanyo VPC-FH1. The images appears fuzzy and look like ghosts.
I am not sure what codec does Sanyo use, but I would imagine it is some sort of AVCHD variation.
Could anyone recommend a good MP4 player which can handle these HD videos?

Feb 24, 2010FC 12 64 bit. When I print an image from Gimp 2.6.8, where is most of the work being done to create data that the printer can use - on my computer or on my printer? The printing of images on my HP Laserjet 4000 or my Officejet 7000 is relatively slow. Can I speed it up by having more of the computation done on my computer instead of on the printers? Or is most of the work already being done by the computer?

Aug 20, 2010I've been scanning in large numbers of old photos for a friend, and up until now, xsane has worked like a charm. Today, however, it's spitting at me. If I try to select a file path in advance, and just save the images, it fails, suggesting that a link exists. (No, I'm putting them directly into the directory in question; no links involved.) I have to bring up the image in the viewer, select Save and select the path for each and every photo involved. Not only that, if I try using the file selection box to show xsane where I want things stored, it doesn't put the path into the box; I have to type it in myself. Considering that I have the best part of a hundred photos to scan, this isn't exactly an option. Does anybody have an idea what's gotten mungged, or how to unmung it?
