Jun 8, 2011No real screen saver tool built in, is there a third party application that will allow a selection of graphical screen savers on time out?

View 2 RepliesI have yet another minor source of confusion in GNOME3... Imagine this: you have opened several terminal windows which cover most of your desktop, and a Firefox browser window. In Firefox you have an image which contains some data that you must type to one of the terminal windows. Since the data is in an image (not as a text), you can't use cut & paste to transfer it from Firefox to terminal.
In GNOME2 (and Windows), you can interleave the Firefox window and the terminal window so that the terminal window is on top of the Firefox window. You can place the terminal window so that it does not cover that part of the Firefox window which contains the data that you must type to the terminal window.
But in GNOME3, if I activate the terminal window, all open terminal windows are shown on top the Firefox window. In order to see the Firefox window again, I have to minimize or move those terminal windows which cover the part which I want to see while typing into the one terminal window. I think this is clumsy. Is there any way to switch back to the GNOME2 behavior which allows interleaving windows from different applications?
how to quickly create Launcher Links that will edit the Applications or Activities panels in Gnome3. I installed Tweak Tool, but it only adds to the desktop which seems a little tacky. I read where you can edit the desktop file to create new ones, but I want to add Application Links to the Application Panel, and then possibly drop and drag to the Activities Sidebar.
I might be overlooking something in Tweak Tool, so will play with that some more, I don't mind editing a file to include, but would rather use GUI.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSuse 11.2 and kde, I'm trying to set up a screensaver. All the facilities seem to be there when I go System>Desktop and set the required details, but then I find the screensaver is non-operative, the screen just going blank after the preset time delay.
The set-up system does do the demo of the screensaver OK, so the software for it must be there and at least partly accessible. But it doesn't seem to get through to the system.
I am running debian 8 with GNOME3.14 with the Applications menu extension and i want to know how to edit the listings and all that stuff ... Also is there a support IRC?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Fedora 12, I am trying to use a program that uses uinput to inject mouse events to control X applications. This worked with Fedora 9, but doesn't with Fedora 12. I see the following in my Xorg.0.log:
(II) config/hal: Adding input device Prototype IRPointer Device
(II) LoadModule: "synaptics"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so
(II) Module synaptics: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.7.1, module version = 1.2.1
Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 7.0
[Code]...
The device is not a synaptics touchpad, and so the X load of the driver is incorrect. But I don't know how to get X to ignore it's own driver and use evdev. (Or even if that's the right thing.) A general explanation of how hal and evdev are related, for the current X server,
I am trying to solve multiple issues with my 64x natty install using gnome3 ppa( official ppa from gnome3). I have this setup on two machines, one is a fresh install the other is a upgrade. They both have most of these issues. Here they are: 1) Nautilus will not launch from the favorites bar. It does launch from a shortcut on the desktop. It will not run from the terminal unless I am root. 2) Number lock is disabled at startup (enabled in my bios). I used to be able to enable after nattty had started, I no longer can, though num lock light is lit - number keypad does not work!
3) I have set gnome3 set to let nautilus draw the background and desktop, I get a white screen at boot until Nautilus is launched then I get a background and some desktop icons(no computer or network icons). If I plug in a usb drive the icon appears on my desktop, when I select it I loose the background and have to select it again.
4) Wireless randomly will drop the connection, have to reconnect, sometimes it will, sometimes I have to reboot. I have Fedora installed on a 2nd hard drive on the machine with a clean install and the only similarity is it displays the default desktop until I launch Nautilus, then my background and desktop are displayed with all of the icons. From there on out Fedora has none of these issues. I have used Ubuntu Gnome and XFCE as my only os since 6.0 and have never had this many problems. Both machines would not run the gdm because of Nvidia issues after the upgrade and clean install. I DO NOT want to give up on Ubuntu as I tell all my friends and family to use it.
I have installed Kubuntu 10.10 on a macbook3.1 and everything (almost) is working fine. My sole problem is that the left control key, despite being mapped to:
keycode 37 = Control_L NoSymbol Control_L NoSymbol Control_L
and having the right behavior in the terminal, does nothing on most other applications, like kate, money managers, intelliJ, etc.
It does work properly also on Google Chrome.
Running Lucid, has been a bit glitch here and there, but generally ok. I use Audacity a lot, so need "drag" with the mouse. Also "drag" on the desktop has gone totally now it just opens the file or folder. Any mouse control app that works? Using a ps2 led mouse, it works fine under wine/crossover apps.

I came across term as "standard root password control application"
I have no imformation over what are such applications how to implement them?
It was also suggested to audit root login .How would i go about it?
When I give the command:
winexe --interactive 0 --user <user>%<password> //<ip_address> 'cmd /C dir'
I receive the message:
ERROR: Cannot open control pipe - NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
The source machine is a RedHat EL4 server. The target machine is a Windows XP Home SP3 pc. When I give the same command to another pc all works fine. The other pc is a Windows XP Prof SP3.
just installed Fedora 15 and was just wondering....
I want to install the 3rd party repos... I found these........

But for 15... would I install the rawhide one for rpmfusion? cause the other options are for older Fedora's.... or is there an updated rpmfusion etc for Fedora 15 that hasn't arrived yet? How does it work in this regards so I can have up to date 3rd party packages etc?
There's an OSS screensaver on windows that I love called PixelCity (links:blog post, github). it's pretty cool. and it runs fine on my Ubuntu (Karmic 9.10) with wine.Is there a way I can tell the gnome-screensaver about it so I can use it as one of my screensavers? I'm still fairly new to Gnome and the whole "screensavers as themes" thing is still confusing me.I've found my themesdir and tried to create a .desktop file for it, but obviously I've gotten something wrong as it just doesn't show when I open the screensaver prefs dialog, no error, no message, it's just not there.
Installing the xscreensaver packages added the extra screensavers I was missing, and I'm a pixelcity away from perfection..Of course the perfect solution would be if someone ported the screensaver natively to linux, which shouldn't be too hard as the source is open, it already runs on openGL and tries to confine most windows stuff to a single file. But I don't know C++ or 3D code or win/linux internals so I wouldn't know where to start..
I am using fedora 13 and i have an image file with the format of cue/bin. How can I mount these images without any third party softwares?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn case I missed it in my seaching is there a 3rd party Gnome plugin available for Perlbox Voice? It really is an excellent piece of software, though unfortunately it doesn't play well with Gnome. And I REALLY don't want to switch to KDE. Their website hasn't been updated in awhile, and their powers-that-be are requesting help with programming one. If it doesn't exist is their anyone that I could request/beg/bribe to make one?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 15 on my netbook the other day and I decided that I will remove everything but the absolutely needed to make things lighter, faster and less time/power consuming. I thought that GDM isn't needed on a single-user machine. Maybe I can remove it and have a script run on boot and take care of (auto-)loging in and starting the DE? (Xfce, but I plan switching to openbox/fluxbox and 3rd party panels/widgets etc). Is it possible? (and does it worth it?)

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis may seem like an oddball question, but I ask because I don't know. When working with Fedora 15, which parts of what I see on screen are actually Fedora, and which parts of Gnome 3? I'm trying to understand where the separation lies between the OS and the shell, and I'm not quite clear when I'm "doing things" if I'm using a feature of Fedora, or Gnome 3. I know when I'm in a terminal window, that's the shell/Gnome3. But what else that I do is actually the shell, and not Fedora?
View 3 Replies View RelatedF15 running on my Dell Latitude 505 laptop. During installation (last week) I got "Gnome3 not fully supported - using fallback mode". I found out later that my Intel 855 video doesn't support 3D, which Gnome3 requires.
System seems to run fine and boots into fallback video. But I'd sure like to have access to my "desktop" so I can drag and drop folders, etc. there. Currently I now have to open the Desktop folder, and then drag and drop, etc. And without an "active" desktop screen, added devices (external drives, cameras, etc.) don't show up unless I open the Desktop folder. Is there an alternative to Gnome3 I can install? I assume without the need for 3D which my Intel video 855 doesn't support.
If there's an alternative or two, could someone point me to exactly how to install them? If there's a more appropriate forum here for this request,
has anyone tried to use Mikogo under Fedora 15 with Gnome 3, i have tried with the instructions on the site but nothing happens, it might be because the app is not gnome 3 ready or something I am missing.[URL].. the way it is supposed to work, you just download it and run it like blender.. and it should start a task bar app (the reason why i think it does nothing) and then you can use it..
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to F15 I noticed that Alt+Tab behaves now differently. For example, if I have several terminal windows open, I can't cycle through all of them by just pressing Alt+Tab repeatedly. Now the system just displays one terminal icon and icons for each terminal window, but if I keep pressing Tab (Alt being down all the time), it does not switch the window.
I want back the old behavior of the Alt+Tab keys!
ALT+F2 R to restart the Shell, your extensions will be enabled
