Fedora :: Install Perl With No Internet Connection?
Mar 24, 2011
Fresh installed Fedora 14, I need to make install the NIC driver from source. I downloaded rpm files for kernel-headers, kernel-devel, perl and perl-libs. Trying to install them, Perl asks for perl-libs and a few other lib files. And perl-libs ask for perl D:
how to off-line install perl?

I have Fedora 14 installed on my s/m with the default gnome desktop environment. Now, I want to install some KDE applications which I found to be very useful. I want to install KDE from fedora 14 DVD as my internet connection is very slow. It was a failure when I tried pointing the yum.repos.d/fedora.repo file to DVD to install using yum. Should I create a repository like what we do in RHEL to configure yum server(How to do it in fedora ???) Or is there any other method to install KDE repository on my system.

I recently decided that I want to install mplayer on fedora 13. Problem is, everytime I try, a new problem arises. I've tried add/remove software, and it said "package download failed, check internet connection" which doesn't make sense because I'm connected to the internet and my connection is fine. So, then I tried yum install mplayer, that gave me an error.

I just installed 11.4 via the net install cd. In the configuration step, the internet connection test fails. Why would this happen if I just installed opensuse using the internet? It looks to me as if opensuse can already figure out how to use my network card. I went ahead and skipped the test, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. Let's see if internet works once I'm logged in...

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 alongwith Linux Mint & Windows XP. A friend of mine who has the same computer configuration & same hardware is planning to install Ubuntu 10.04. But he'll not be having internet connection at that place. So I was thinking of helping him by giving a CD which will be having all the required software on that which I have installed in my ubuntu 10.04. So that when he installs Ubuntu he just need to put the CD. So is there someway thru which we can put our installed programs on the CD so that we can use them again when we don't have internet connection? Like APT on CD...

I need to install the Perl DBI and DBI::mysql modules at Amazon Web Services. Perl 5.8.8 is installed there as part of the default Fedora linux that comes with an EC2 instance. I am not familiar with Fedora, but have been using Linux for a good while.If anyone could tell/show/direct me to the quickest way to do this.

I am a Fedora neophyte, upgrading a web server from Fedoras core 5 to Fedora 13. I finally got Apache and perl up and running, but my Perl scripts don't run because of the lack of Perl libraries.I have been able to use yum install thus far to get what I need which is a terrific tool when it works. I note there is a specific tool named 'cpan', and of course one can download libraries directly from the cpan.org website.Unfortunately, I have tried to download perl libaries from yum the cpan library from yum, and in each case I get:
[URL]
And it has tried maybe 20 mirrors, alway with the same result. What is the best way you experienced Fedora types have found to download and install perl libraries (like LWP for starters)?

I've used yum (and rpm) for some time now, and have finally run into one of those dependency problem. I am trying to install git (among other programs), and I have reach an empass. Nothing I've tried has worked, and I just know there is a simple solution to this that I just don't know. It all started by skipping a dependency in the past (don't remember the package). I figured there would be something to clean that up, so I just continued.
Here is my output:
Code: # yum install git
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit, security
Adding en_US to language list
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Excluding mirror: ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de
Excluding mirror: wftp.tu-chemnitz.de
* livna: rpm.livna.org
* rpmfusion-free: mirror.hiwaay.net .....
--> Processing Dependency: perl(Error) for package: perl-Git-1.7.3.3-1.fc14.noarch
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: perl-Git-1.7.3.3-1.fc14.noarch (updates)
Requires: perl(Error)
Error: Package: git-1.7.3.3-1.fc14.i686 (updates)
Requires: perl(Error)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
If I need to, I could go and download the RPM package and install it that way, but I'd like to get YUM back working properly.

I installed Enlightenment into my machine and, in the course of the installation, Network Manager was removed. I now have no internet connection. I've searched and tried a couple of possible solutions here but I cannot get them to work. When I try to use a downloaded deb file Gdebi cannot install it. It seems that if I re-install Network Manager I'll lose a lot of my Enlightenment installation. What I'd like to do is install Wicd. I dual boot with Win 7 so all is not lost. I understand that there's a way to istall Wicd from the command line without an internet connection but I cannot figure out how to do it.

I recently installed Open SUSE 11.2. It's a pretty cool OS. Anyway,sadly enough, I cannot access my internet connection via my USB internet modem. Worst of all, Open SUSE cannot detect the USB modem device. I am currently new to Linux and I may be overlooking something. I also clearly figured that Linux online is better than Linux offline from what I read from blogs and numerous posts. So in essence, I cannot fully appreciate the true power of Open SUSE 11.2 offline. Would there be a way to install my USB modem device?
