View 1 RepliesI have RHEL 5 installed on VMware 6.0 and the host OS is Windows 7. My Host is connected to internet using a wireless connection and works on shared IP. Earlier when I had Windows vista as host I have managed to get the internet connection on the RHEL but do not remember how I managed it. Now I need help in setting the internet connection on RHEL. I have set up a NAT connection. But of no use.

I would like to have all traffic from the ethernet connection out through the wireless (basically using the box as a router) however I am having some trouble doing this.
I have done this before on Windows however I am having some trouble doing this on linux, I have tried using Squid Proxy however I am having some trouble using configuring/using it.
I am using Yellow Dog Linux however I am willing to change to any other distro as long as it is compatable with PS3 (as this is what im using linux on)
I just installed red hat enterprise 5 in my laptop and on desktop both. In desktop it is working fine but in laptop it is not showing the eth device. (I tried ifconfig only lo is there). I tried ifup eth0 still nothing happened. The network service in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and in /etc/sysconfig/network are enable. I had ubuntu in my laptop before and I faced same problem with that too. Is there any problem with my laptop? I have my system on dual boot and in win7 networking is running fine. I am not able to connect to the internet only, other devices are working fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed RHEL 5 today and set my network. Did it as follows:Eth0 connectionPrimary DNS 192.168.1.1When I click on Activate, it says:8139too device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization. This message shows no matter how many times I log out or restart.I don't know what the heck is the problem. I've done the essentials but still it's not working. I looked up on the net but people were saying things like ifconfig and lspci, and at the end still weren't able to solve it. I don't know all this since I'm new to Linux. Another important thing...after facing this same problem some time ago, I installed Centos which asked for internet settings right at the time of installation. And after logging in for the first time, I was able to use internet without any problem. How come internet works on Centos (which is a copy of RHEL) without any problems, but not working on RHEL itself?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed 11.4 via the net install cd. In the configuration step, the internet connection test fails. Why would this happen if I just installed opensuse using the internet? It looks to me as if opensuse can already figure out how to use my network card. I went ahead and skipped the test, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. Let's see if internet works once I'm logged in...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Enlightenment into my machine and, in the course of the installation, Network Manager was removed. I now have no internet connection. I've searched and tried a couple of possible solutions here but I cannot get them to work. When I try to use a downloaded deb file Gdebi cannot install it. It seems that if I re-install Network Manager I'll lose a lot of my Enlightenment installation. What I'd like to do is install Wicd. I dual boot with Win 7 so all is not lost. I understand that there's a way to istall Wicd from the command line without an internet connection but I cannot figure out how to do it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Open SUSE 11.2. It's a pretty cool OS. Anyway, sadly enough, I cannot access my internet connection via my USB internet modem. Worst of all, Open SUSE cannot detect the USB modem device. I am currently new to Linux and I may be overlooking something. I also clearly figured that Linux online is better than Linux offline from what I read from blogs and numerous posts. So in essence, I cannot fully appreciate the true power of Open SUSE 11.2 offline. Would there be a way to install my USB modem device?
