whether Fedora / Gnome are planning on implementing a 2D version of Gnome 3? (i.e same GUI but without the bling). Like what Ubuntu did with Unity 2D. Unfortunately, my old laptop cannot run Gnome 3 due to the graphics specs and fallback mode doesn't work so I'm stuck with KDE.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI successfully installed fedora live CD KDE version on virtual PC. but I can't install the live CD Gnome desktop version. details: I just add vga=0x32D on boot, no problem booting after that. I am now log-in as live user, but I can't find the shotcut for installation on desktop "install to hard drive" but using the terminal, there's a file under Desktop, 'liveinst.desktop" I tried running it, graphical installation will appear, but during copying to hard disk, it says bad media.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 on a 32 bit laptop. I noticed that there seems to be a huge memory leak issue with Gnome shell. When I restart it, it is around 20 MB. But it keeps rising, and after around eight hours, I noticed it was around 250 MB! I found a solution online that said to simply restart the shell if the gnome-shell memory consumption becomes too large. While this is fine as a temporary solution, I am looking for a permanent one. Is there a way to minimize/prevent the memory leak other than waiting for the next version of Gnome 3?

I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)

View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do I install a base version of GNOME I only use a few programs (GIMP, Ksnapshot, Abiword, Amarok, Totem (media player), Kopete, Google Chrome, Synaptic Package Manager, and of course the terminal) and want the smallest installation possible.
Also last time I did it my volume hotkeys didn't work any ideas what else I need to get them working again So summed up: How do I get the smallest installation of GNOME and what do I need to get my hotkeys working?I am waiting on my disc to be delivered so i wont be able to tell you if it helped I also did the base installation with Debian Lenny so I'm not suer if it has the hotkey problem
#1 : Open synaptic package manager and add the PPA (Settings -> Repositories -> Other Softwares, then add the PPA given below ) for GNOME 3.

#2 : Then, update the repository packages (using Reload button).
#3 : Now search for gnome 3 package and install it.

But This does not work with Lucid 10.04 as the software repository for Lucid (referenced above) does not exist.

I have dowmloaded the latest version of Gnome Nanny, but have run into an instal problem at the first hurdle:
I have extracte the folder to Documents: Cd/ to the folder and run the ./configure command and get this message: No package 'pygtk-2.0' found
I have checked the install files and edited the lines which contain the above to now read pygtk -2.0 >=2.8 as 2.8 is the version of python I have installed. In package manager it only goes back to v2.2.
How I can get around this error?

there have been many posts about trying to use FF4 with graphic acceleration and i ran into an article that discusses some of the ramifications in doing so: Context and from the information presented, it appears that mozilla's approach is to blacklist graphic drivers that are not sufficiently "malware-proof" since code from the webpage is presented directly to the graphics driver.
i was not aware of this side issue and figured many others were also uninformed, but my thoughts are that some careful consideration should be done before implementing this new functionality. Perhaps someone more knowledgable could chime in with more concise information.

One of the things we would like to offer to clients is the ability to relay email addressed to their company's domain to their own personal email address (either web-based, or hosted by their ISP).
Now, clearly there is a risk of our mail relay being marked as "open", and therefore becoming black listed as a source of spam. Not something that we want to happen!setting up such a system? I understand how I would go about configuring an MTA like Postfix or Sendmail to perform such a task, but I'm unsure how I would ensure that relayed mail is delivered and we're not labeled as spammers.
I did wonder if perhaps the "mail forwarding" options in a mail server like Zimbra would get around the issue by forwarding on messages inline or as attachments within new emails (so the messages would appear to be from the account hosted on our server).
I'm interested in writing a generational garbage collector in C++. This is for a Python-like programming language project. I have used Boehm's garbage collector before, but I'm worried that it will have noticeable pause times (unacceptable for interactive programs). Since I can't really find any other C++ established GCs out there, I have been thinking of simply writing my own.
However, there are two essential ingredients I need for this:
- Some kind of write barrier mechanism that will notify my collector when something is written to a part of the heap
- A way for me to know the addresses and sizes of the stack, heap and global storage (the root sets)
