Sep 20, 2010I'm having a hard time googling for answers because I keep using the word "keyword."
I've never really used any kind of database before, but I want to learn the basics, so I'm playing with it a little bit at work. What I want to do is make a database to hold information on various articles. For example, with columns for the title, author, and date. Those are all easy. The tricky part is that I'd also like to be able to label articles with keywords so I can search for certain topics.
Since there's no way to know ahead of time how many keywords, if any, each article might warrant, I'm not sure how to put this in database form. There's no variable-sized array data type. It seems sloppy to just list them all in a single VARCHAR column. Making several columns that may or may not be left null and putting one keyword in each seems wasteful.

Jan 7, 2011I am Vamsi from Alcatel-Lucent. We have a software to configure the wireless broadband devices to the Linux machine. Till now, it was running on FC-5. When we need to add any new device, we used to add it in airprime.c, sw.h and usb-serial.c under /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/serial directoy.
Now we are trying to upgrade the system to FC-12. But I am not able to find any kernal files under /usr/src/kernels/2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE/drivers/usb/serial directory. I saw in some websites that the kernal files can be found at: /root/rpmbuild/SOURCES/linux-2.6.31/drivers/usb/serial. But in my system, there is no rpmbuild directory.

Mar 30, 2011I tried to install Zenwalk, xunbutu, debian6 linuxmint, linuxpuppy and I've had nothing but Kernal panics not syrcing, host smbus not enabled, lupusave file problems, journal commit i/o error. I've been interested in linux for a long time and I was reading about it working well on old computers. Ive got a 366 celeron with a 4G drive and 160M memory (a real screamer). This computer has had win98 winME and win2K with flawless installations. I'm no expert at this stuff but I've been around since the DOS 3.3 days so I know a little bit. All I want to do is see my hard drive boot up in the linux operating system right now. What the heck is up with this file system?

Jun 7, 2010I recently installed new hard drive and cloned old hard drive software onto it. The bootloader installs either linux or other operating system. Ever since the cloning, boot hangs. Words in the thread title are the last to appear before everything grinds to a halt. Just before the kernal panic message appears, "Initrd finished" is last line. Will have to try booting again to find more info before this.

Mar 25, 2011i installed firefox 4 and removed the old 3.X version. did a general update that my computer showed me was available then i noticed the first problem. firefox 4 would not launch when i clicked it, it would only launch when i clicked the gnome 3 applications button and then clicked and dragged the firefox logo to the desktop, then it opened. the second problem i am now having which at the moment is more bothersome is that after i closed the lid to my laptop and opened it up again after a while and logged back in and noticed that the ENTIRE gnome 3 environment was gone. no panel no menu nothing just the desktop and a few desktop icons. i tried the command "yum install gnome-shell" but it just sed that gnome 2.31.5-7 .fc14.i686 was already installed so it wasnt gonna do anything, then i tried the "gnome-shell --replace" command and it just said

Jul 10, 2010I've been struggling this morning trying to associate an application with a custom protocol, namely emacsclient and org-protocol.
I'm calling this protocol from a webbrowser bookmarklet, and I get the following behaviour :
In chromium, the "Launch Application" dialog comes up, and calls xdg-open org-protocol://... which ends up firing a new chromium frame.
In firefox, I've tried setting network.protocol-handler.app.org-protocol to an empty string or my emacsclient path, anyhow I get the following error message : "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (org-protocol) isn't associated with any program" without even showing any external application selection dialog.
I'm not using any desktop environment, so I need to make this work strictly with xdg, however, despite reading the shared mime info spec etc, I still can't fathom a working configuration.
