Although it would resemble the Unity desktop that some of us here may have run away from, is it possible to set the left-hand-side dock to remain on screen, possibly only sliding off when a program window needs it to?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIm running Linux Mint Debian Edition. I have also installed Cairo Dock.At first there was a black box for a background, but when I turned on the gnome composting, I got the transparent background that I wanted. I turned on the gnome composting by going to control center/desktop settings/Windows/Use Gnome Composting. It was fine for about a day. Then all of a sudden I am back to the black box. I checked the gnome composting check-box and it is still checked. I don't know what else to try.Perhaps I need to install my graphics driver for my graphics card and use Compiz. I would rather not bother jumping through those hoops if I can help it. Bottom Line -- Gnome Composting is Broken

View 1 Replies View RelatedI"m thinking of trying out Cairo Dock with Ubuntu for the next 2 weeks until Meerkat comes out, but if I prefer the gnome panel I'd like to bring that back. I can right click the lower task bar in Ubuntu and "remove this panel." if there is there any way I can bring it back? Also if anyone here uses Cairo Dock could you let me know your thoughts on it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed cairo-dock in Fedora 14 KDE, but I have seen that it starts several times (there are one over the other one).
In system monitor, there are two cairo-dock in the list (or more).
I have checked /home/user/.kde/Autostart but there is an archive only, called ".directory".
I was able to easily install Cario-Dock for Ubuntu but cannot do it for 14. I followed the install instructions on Cario-Dock website but it seems it was for 13 so it failed.

The name of the file is cairo-dock-2.0.8.2-1.fc12.src.rpm, and I swear I'm typing it in right, and I'm CDed in the proper directory. However, when I try to do that step, I get this output:Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekitwarning: rpmts_HdrFromFdno: Header V3 RSA/SHA256 signature: NOKEY, key ID 16ca1a56Error: Could not open cairo-dock-2.0.8.2-1.fc12.src.rpmThere was a problem getting the build deps, exiting: Could not open local rpm file: cairo-dock-2.0.8.2-1.fc12.src.rpm: RPM Error opening Package
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just decided to go with Compiz rather than Kwin for my window manager. I have everything working beautifully aside from one little problem... The plasma dock won't pick up clicks any more. The mouse focuses on whatever is underneath the dock, rather than the dock itself. I'm sure there is a setting I can alter to override this behavior, I just can't figure it out to save my life.
Upon further investigation I found that it only behaves this way if I set the dock to auto-hide.
Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?

is there some wiki page on GNOME or Fedora that list which graphics cards work without problems on Fedora 15 with GNOME Shell? I have tried 3 older cards and they all failed, so I would like to share this info with others so people know which cards to avoid if they want to use full features of GNOME 3 via GNOME Shell.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am coming from about 3 months of Ubuntu/Kubuntu and have learned quite a lot from it and am looking into other linux distros, now I haven't installed Fedora yet, but I have a few questions about it, I have a acer aspire one netbook, how well does Fedora support netbooks (e.g small screens)?
I have a verizon usb760 internet modem (I'm pretty sure it's 3G), will it work "out of the box" with Fedora Graphically wise, what are the differences between gnome/kde in Fedora, than in gnome/kde in Ubuntu? How stable is Fedora 14? I have a 8gb flash drive that I want to put Fedora on to install it rather than a cd, will that work? And the last, does Fedora have a live cd feature like Ubuntu so I can try it before I install?
OR IS IT A FEATURE?
I've managed to ALT-RIGHT-click-add some launchers to the top gnome-panel. When i now click on a launcher the gnome-panel crashes(?) and reappeares, but the program starts without problems. If i do this two times in a row (1 sec diff or so) the gnome-crash screen appears and i've got to log out although all the programs are still running without any problems.
dmesg shows this: [14460.034820] gnome-panel[4428]: segfault at 18 ip 0000003810fc05df sp 00007fffcaae4c30 error 4 in libgtk-3.so.0.0.10[3810e00000+3fb000]
I noticed that in Fedora 15 Beta when you choose a minimal install then add ONLY the defaults of the "GNOME Desktop" package, you will get this error: gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-2.fc15.x86_64 has a required package:
system-backgrounds-gnome
When I look for gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-2.fc15.x86_64 it is not on any installation menu list. I prefer gnome, but installed KDE and that worked. Any ideas of getting gnome to work?
I'm looking for a way to get a Mac OS X style dock on Xubuntu, I tried cairo and it was ok but I just got a black border around the dock which was annoying. And I tried looking up how to fix it and most places recommend turning on compositing which I had already had on in xfce. I'm not necessarily looking for animated stuff, just an icon based dock like that.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had this problem before and figured out that when I drag an item from a software and it activates the dock by touching the left side of the screen the dock wouldn't hide until I close the software that I dragged the item from. Come on Ubuntu developers, you guys shouldn't have release a version like that! Now is too late, I have upgraded my system from the 10.10 and just can't get it back without formatting. The "Ubuntu Classic" is also messed up, lots of features doesn't work properly as they used to do in 10.10. I am not aware of the reason which why gnome is gone and now we have this unity. In my opinion it is WAY WORST than gnome (and gnome wasn't that good)...
I installed the new ubuntu with unity. I then used compizconfig to edit some stuff. I wanted the launcher to be in the bottom and always show.
However, after I did this i ended up with:
how to fix this? I don't know how to open a terminal, a webpage since I don't have a dock or launcher. I'm using ubuntu through classic now.
I recently got a new monitor and now my unity dock and parts of windows get cut off on the left side, is there a way to fix this

I have recently installed Ubuntu to my USB and think it is brilliant how you can save changes and even install software! However I really want to install the Avant Window Navigator but it says that it is not available in the current data. I tried sudo apt-get update but it still doesn't work! Is there a way round this as I can install other software?
