Jun 23, 2011We have created a stripped own version of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and removed the screen saver and power management options from the desktop as we have turned off the menu. The reason for this is security as we do not want users having any other options then what shows on the desktop. What is the sudo command to get back to this or do I need to under the administrator profile Create a Launcher icon?

I downloaded it and it is called "xautoclick-0.30.tar.gz" The installation notes say "tallatBe sure you have the proper development packages for your distribution installed (i.e. something like xserver-xorg-dev, gtk2-dev, et cetera). After that, run:
./configure make sudo make install" I have no clue what to do... I typed in "./configure" in the terminal and it says "bash: ./configure: No such file or directory?

How can i reset the timeout to 3 seconds? I also cannot view the ubuntu partition within windows because of ubuntu's file system.

May 19, 2010There's an OSS screensaver on windows that I love called PixelCity (links:blog post, github). it's pretty cool. and it runs fine on my Ubuntu (Karmic 9.10) with wine.Is there a way I can tell the gnome-screensaver about it so I can use it as one of my screensavers? I'm still fairly new to Gnome and the whole "screensavers as themes" thing is still confusing me.I've found my themesdir and tried to create a .desktop file for it, but obviously I've gotten something wrong as it just doesn't show when I open the screensaver prefs dialog, no error, no message, it's just not there.
Installing the xscreensaver packages added the extra screensavers I was missing, and I'm a pixelcity away from perfection..Of course the perfect solution would be if someone ported the screensaver natively to linux, which shouldn't be too hard as the source is open, it already runs on openGL and tries to confine most windows stuff to a single file. But I don't know C++ or 3D code or win/linux internals so I wouldn't know where to start..

My wireless device is an Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300, driver is iwl4965. Post-suspend I see exactly the same messages as in that Ubuntu report. Restarting NM does not help.Is there a way to lengthen to timeout or kick the device in to life some other way?

Jul 23, 2010with a most annoying problem, when I play a vid from my home directory (or laptop is idle) the screen goes black after about 10 minutes (comes back on when mouse moved), when I play a dvd no black screen/screensaver , I've uninstalled gnome-screensaver and in power-manager set everything to never and unticked "dim display when idle" is there some other default screensaver coming into play or a setting I could change

Basically my problem is after genome-terminal (version 3.4.1.1) is launched, I want to change profile setting such as font, color, etc. However, when I click the button `Edit > Profiles > Edit`, nothing happens (no dialogue pop up). `Edit > Profiles > New` And `Edit > Profiles > Delete` function correctly.

Jun 27, 2011I've got an Ubuntu Server 11.04 running and the primary use of it is to store backup files using Deja Dup, connecting through SSH using shared key (no passwords) authentication. This works on the LAN and WAN, which is what I want. I also want to set up an HP Officejet 5610 MFD to be shared on the LAN only, for printing and scanning. The server obviously doesn't have a GUI.
I've searched and come up with some near misses, but everywhere I try it seems someone is using a GUI on the system serving the printer. See: [URLs]
What I'd really like would be a post like the following one. It seems to be what I'm looking for, but it is from 2006 using Ubuntu 6.## and that build ran on cupsys rather than cupsd if I read correctly. I haven't found an updated guide/post like the one below.

Fedora :: Beesu Through NX Does Not Retain Password Timeout
Dec 1, 2009I use NX Server 3.4.0-8 and GNOME desktop and I connect through NXClient 3.4.0-5 on Windows 7 pro 64bit.
I have some problems, first is that I use beesu and through the physical console, it asks me once for my password and then remembers it as long as the passwd timeout is set on sudoers file. But when I connect to my desktop through NX, beesu asks for mypassword all the time not honoring the save timeout setting.

Jan 30, 2011I have a box running Fedora 14 upstairs and I've been trying to get it to run VNC server, unsuccessfully. I've RTFM, and followed the instructions step-by-step, but it still won't run. I'm getting no error messages. But when I try to connect from either a Window or Mac client, it either get a timeout or connection refused. I've read and tried all the troubleshooting; been working on this for about 12 hours now. Is there something major that I could be overlooking?

Jun 9, 2011I installed fresh installation of F15 and I've allways used Evolution as my mailclient. There was in older Evolution versions option "Mark message as read in X secs" I set that to zero to read emails smoothly, now I have to wait after every message that it's got "as read" and that's really annoying especially if it's automatically sent message from server that I don't really have to "check" it just click it to get it as read. I've been gone thru all the settings of current Evolution in F15 and haven't found anymore that option. Maybe there's conf file somewhere that I can put that? That "Help" page for Evolution is kinda outdated.

I'm using a x86_64 PC running kernel 2.6.32.23-170.fc12.x86_64. My Gnome version is 2.28.2. The Gnome-screensaver version is 2.28.3-1.fc12.x86_64.

Jul 22, 2010part of my current work involves cutting and pasting file names to text files. Double clicking on the terminal should select the "word" (and triple clicking selects the line). Many of my files contain special characters such as a "+" sign, and double clicking only seems to select up to the plus sign. (The "+" is useful information, so renaming he files isn't really an option, plus it would take too long).
Is it possible in gnome terminal (or a different terminal - gnome terminal is the default on this system) to reconfigure this so it selects up to the whitespace, rather than the "+" sign?
Fedora :: Nm-applet Timeout - Restore The Connection Indefinitely
Sep 15, 2010nm-applet timeout. I connect to the internet via wifi access. I have this problem that whenever there is a powercut, my wifi router switches off and then nm-applet tries to connect and then after sometime times out i.e. nm-applet gives up on trying to restore the connection.
I want nm-applet to keep trying to restore the connection indefinitely because if the electricity is back lets say after an hour then it should immediately connect without manual intervention.
I did google around trying to search for the configuration parameters but was not able to do so.

Jun 15, 2011I am very new to this and seem to have fallen at the first hurdle configuring ssh...
I believe I have got ssh running (on Fedora 15) as running:
results in a password prompt and successful login
Then to find my ipaddress i ran:
this returns deatils of two adapters... 'lo' and 'p2pl'. I assumed p2pl was the one (although was expecting something like eth0) and took the address to be 'inet addr: 192.168.1.5'.
However, using this from putty on my windows7 machine (locally) results in a fatal network timeout everytime.
