I use NX Server 3.4.0-8 and GNOME desktop and I connect through NXClient 3.4.0-5 on Windows 7 pro 64bit.
I have some problems, first is that I use beesu and through the physical console, it asks me once for my password and then remembers it as long as the passwd timeout is set on sudoers file. But when I connect to my desktop through NX, beesu asks for mypassword all the time not honoring the save timeout setting.
Added an icon for Xampp via Alacarte(Main Menu) and need something like gksu to make it work. In the past i installed Beesu but in F15 it causes problems during boot and shutdown. Is there any convenient way to install gksu or any other solution to get the graphical starter working?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have setup a vnc server using the "every imagineable server" thread which setups up VPN using xinetd. I have also installed Beesu and its associated scripts so I can easily open root privileged nautilus windows.
beesu works a treat on the actual display. However whilst vnc'd into the box I get prompted for my root password (which it accepts) but a nautilus window never opens. No errors, it just doesn't open.
How do I configure so that only root and my main user can create AT jobs?
How do i set a bootloader password with timeout value and change the display name?
Owned linux laptop (running UBUNTU) for 1.5 yrs. Love it. No problems... until:
1. I changed my password, via System - Admin - User & Groups - Properties. (I just typed 2 characters on the end of the old User Password and the Confirmation password and OK'd it all.
2. Shut down laptop. Upon restarting it (only minutes later), neither the new pw or the old one worked.
3. Googled for help on another machine. Booted linux laptop up in recovery mode and used the passwd <?> command to reset pw (back to the original one!).
4. Shut down. Started laptop up again... forever more firefox runs like a dog. Normally (90% of the time) it times out before reaching a page, though it is trying to transfer the data.
Let's be clear about this. It was fine. The very next time I used firefox - minutes after the password debarcle, it was cac, and has remained cac ever since.
I've been whizzing around on firefox for over a year without any issues. There have been no changes to the router. My microsoft laptop has no issue with the internet so it cant be router or telco related. Though I did reset the router (power and phone line) just to be sure. It didn't help.
I clear the private data (Tools menu) in firefox regularly (daily-ish). That is the only housekeeping I do on this machine. (It only gets used for mail, internet and the odd simple OpenOffice document). There is stacks of space left (70 Gig). I'm not sure how to check memory.
Googled for help and tried some command to purge temp files. That didn't help.
I love my linux laptop, but currently I'm having to resort back to my windows one.
I'm just trying out Ubuntu on my desktop (up to now I have always used Fedora), and so far I like it. One thing I really miss though is beesu in Nautilus, is there anything similar here? or a way of adding beesu?

My wireless device is an Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300, driver is iwl4965. Post-suspend I see exactly the same messages as in that Ubuntu report. Restarting NM does not help.Is there a way to lengthen to timeout or kick the device in to life some other way?

I have a box running Fedora 14 upstairs and I've been trying to get it to run VNC server, unsuccessfully. I've RTFM, and followed the instructions step-by-step, but it still won't run. I'm getting no error messages. But when I try to connect from either a Window or Mac client, it either get a timeout or connection refused. I've read and tried all the troubleshooting; been working on this for about 12 hours now. Is there something major that I could be overlooking?

I installed fresh installation of F15 and I've allways used Evolution as my mailclient. There was in older Evolution versions option "Mark message as read in X secs" I set that to zero to read emails smoothly, now I have to wait after every message that it's got "as read" and that's really annoying especially if it's automatically sent message from server that I don't really have to "check" it just click it to get it as read. I've been gone thru all the settings of current Evolution in F15 and haven't found anymore that option. Maybe there's conf file somewhere that I can put that? That "Help" page for Evolution is kinda outdated.

I have opened the port I have specified in the ushare.conf file and in verbose mode, uShare sees every video I want to share. The XBox sees the uShare under "Computer", but I get a connection timeout when trying to connect to it. /var/log/messages shows no errors with uShare. I have this problem that whenever there is a powercut, my wifi router switches off and then nm-applet tries to connect and then after sometime times out i.e. nm-applet gives up on trying to restore the connection.
I want nm-applet to keep trying to restore the connection indefinitely because if the electricity is back lets say after an hour then it should immediately connect without manual intervention.
I did google around trying to search for the configuration parameters but was not able to do so.
I am very new to this and seem to have fallen at the first hurdle configuring ssh...
I believe I have got ssh running (on Fedora 15) as running:

Then to find my ipaddress i ran:
this returns deatils of two adapters... 'lo' and 'p2pl'. I assumed p2pl was the one (although was expecting something like eth0) and took the address to be 'inet addr: 192.168.1.5'.
However, using this from putty on my windows7 machine (locally) results in a fatal network timeout everytime.
I am having issues with putty going inactive during a session and the job failing. I do not want to run nohup but would llike a korn shell script to keep putty alive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my computer I have one IDE drive that is my boot drive and a mirrored SATA raid set. When I login as "root" and mount the SATA volume it's always there. When I logout or shutdown if I login as root it's always mounted. I want to do the same thing for my own user ID. I did a search on having volumes mounted when I boot but they seem related to older versions of Ubuntu. It almost seems like a permissions problem since the "root" ID mounts the volume when I boot and my user ID does not.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having some really severe problems with compiz on my computer, and Im at a point of utter frustration.
I want to take compiz off of my computer, but I do not want to lose compositing effects, because I run docky (which needs it to run)
Essentially, the problem with compiz, in a nutshell, is that it continually freezes on me when I try to scroll a webpage too fast, or if a fast-paced flash video plays, or anything that might choke up the window manager does. I end up having to pull up a terminal, killall compiz, then restart it manually; it works again until I try to scroll too quickly or something and then it will lock up again.
I know I could run compiz on this computer, but I dont know why this current version will not cooperate, so in lieu of finding a solution, I kinda want to just purge it.
My Acer laptop Travelmate 290 was fine till yesterday (ie) before full update.No Error.I have the recent Ubuntu. Later When I boot I can't find my cursor but I could randomly see pop up notification of Application----Places--- System could be read.When I open any folder its fixed to top of the screen and no button for minimise,max and close.When I dig thro all the forums and solved by reinstalling metacity and change the setting of Appearance-Visual Effects to Normal.When I set to Normal it scans for the driver and asking me to confirm the setting.Once confirmed all the above problems solved but it don't reatain it,it is jump back to none. I need to do this on every boot.Is any way to avoid this? Is anyway to clean all the compiz files and setting from the PC?I vaguely remember it may be because of uninstall of compiz.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Natty Narwhal on a brand new Ideapad Z570 and everything worked out of the box except wifi for which I had to blacklist acer_wmi.
I installed Google Chrome and replaced firefox with chrome in the launcher. So everything works fine until I reboot. Firefox is back. I saw this a couple of times so I though why not just get rid of firefox. Unfortunately now there's nothing in place of firefox.
I tried unity --reset but that just shows a bunch of errors. I have dconf-tools and libdconf0 installed.
well, I have a redhat 9 server. it has a separate hdd mounted as /backup where I always used to take the backup tar files. Now I am planning to upgrade it to CentOS 5.5 Easy job. except that I want to keep the hdd same way for backup. And ofcourse without loosing any of my existing data.
Means, the current hdd i want to again use with keeping the data because I have to restore the whole thing just from that HDD and again that will be used for the backup also like before...
so advice on adding a new HDD without loosing data. And opps, the current backup HDD is accessible through /backup and I want to keep that too... but it is not a symbolic link... here is my current /etc/fstab

I've tested a live CD of 10.04 and one of the things I can't let go for now is the beautiful splash and GDM theme of Ubuntu 9.10.
To me it's priceless. I tried installing

I re-set the hue on VLC. Everything looks fine. Unfortunately, when I restart VLC it goes back to the blue-hue.
