Fedora :: Yum And Software Updates Not Working. No Software Sources?

Jun 25, 2009

I just upgraded from Fedora 10 to 11. After the upgrade, I was unable to update the system and my Software Sources does not display any repositories at all. Yum didn't work also. I tried a couple of things from similar problems posted in the forum, but it didn't help in my case. I get this if I ask yum for the repolist.

[alfy@localhost ~]$ yum repolist
Configuration file /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/blacklist.conf not found

Debian Installation :: Wheezy Sources Not Working After Install?

Apr 7, 2011

I have just installed Wheezy after repartitioning and had to set up my sources list myself as (most of it) was not done for me. I have just added the main official repository, security updates and the multimedia repository. To be honest I'm not sure if any of them are working when I do an update in aptitude, I think the multimedia one might be. The CD ROM isn't even working despite the fact I have done apt-cdrom add.I am getting the following when run aptitude update:

Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Wheezy_ - Official Snapshot i386 CD Binary-1 20110328-05:16] wheezy InRelease

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Update Http://ppa.launchpad.net Natty/main/Sources Sources

May 16, 2011

I've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:

- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04
- following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.

Ubuntu Installation :: Change The Sources That Aren't In Sources.list?

Apr 21, 2010

I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but

1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.

2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.

My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?

Ubuntu Installation :: Update Manager / Software Sources / Synaptic Package Manager Not Working?

Sep 30, 2010

It started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.

I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!

OpenSUSE :: Application Launcher Not Working After System Updates?

A sort of a work around for this issue is that I have found when the application launcher is switched to Classic Menu Style then the classic menu works without any problems. I would however like to use the default launcher and not the classic one as it has so much more functionality and is easier to use and navigate

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Sound Not Working After The Latest Updates

Sep 16, 2010

opensuse v11.3
linux 2.6.34.4-0.1-desktop x86_64

After the latest round of updates approx Sep 10, sound has stopped working. (I rarely need sound for anything so it took a while to notice.) In Yast :: Hardware :: Sound it lists all of the devices that were previously defined.

- 0: SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
- 1: RS780 Azalia controller
- 2: Logitech USB headset
- 3: USB Audio

Yet when I go to Gnome :: Control Center :: Hardware :: Sound and select the tab Hardware, nothing is listed. I suspect this is why there is no sound. How do I go about reloading the hardware into the hardware listing?

Ubuntu :: Notify-send Not Working Correctly After Updates?

May 20, 2011

I've been using Ubuntu 11.04 for a couple of weeks now, and I can't seem to get notify-send to work correctly (yes, I did install libnotify-bin)

Yesterday, I reinstalled Ubuntu 11.04 and the first thing I did was install libnotify-bin to try notify-send on a fresh install.

It worked fine after the reinstallation until I did sudo apt-get upgrade. Immediately after the updates finished, I tried notify-send again and it failed to display a notification.

No error messages, command exits correctly, no indication of anything going wrong except no notification pops up.

I'm on a lenovo thinkpad t420, 64bit ubuntu.

CentOS 5 :: Sendmail Stopped Working After Latest Updates

May 31, 2010

We are running CentOS 5.4 x86 on ESX 4 Server. We have a busy Help Desk, a Forum and several name-based websites running. Weve been using CentOS for this 'purpose for several years (different versions) and so far we have never had a problem. On Saturday, I applied all the latest updates including the Kernel updates. I rebooted the server and all seemed well until Sunday morning when I didn't get my Logwatch in the mail. Then I got a telephone call from a customer asking me why I hadn't responded to a Trouble Ticket he had created on Saturday afternoon (creating a TT sends an email via sendmail to all the support staff). I did a few tests and sendmail has just stopped working. The Logwatch had been created and had been sent to root, but all mail for root is redirected to my Mail Server on e different box (GroupWise). There was nothing wrong with the mail server, but sendmail has just stopped.

Fortunately I had created a snapshot before I applied the updates, so I reverted back to the snapshot and mail started working again, but I lost 2 days info because I had run the backup before I applied the patches. Now I see there are 132 Updates available, but there is obviously a problem somewhere in there!

Fedora :: Where To Get Correct (F12) Kernel Sources

Mar 7, 2010

Building an nVidia driver requires sources for the currently-running kernel. In my case (Fedora 12), it is, according to 'uname -a',
2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686

I thought I could get the sources with 'yum install kernel-sources', but there is no such package. Then I tried 'yum install kernel-devel'. That package exists, but the kernel is
2.6.32.9-67.fc12.i686

This is clearly not the correct version.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Pulseaudio Not Working After Latest Updates On Maverick?

I've been running Maverick 64bit fine on my Dell M1330 laptop until a couple of days ago. After the latest updates (I guess to kernel 2.6.35-24-generic), sound stopped working properly. On the other hand Rhythmbox plays and I can hear the music. I can adjust Rhythmbox volume but not the global volume (as neither the sound indicator applet nor the multimedia volume keys on my laptop work).
