I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble getting updates. I ran the software update out of the control center when I first installed 11.4 with the gnome desktop.I ran the yast online update and got what was on there, but now it just gives me error messages, basically it's stating it can't connect to the repositories.
View 1 RepliesI've just installed OpenSuse 11.2 64-bit and, on the whole, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm connected to the network and I am posting this from my new system. However I cannot get any software updates or install new packages
I'm behind a (non-authenticated) proxy and, obviously, Firefox has no problem.
If I use Online Updater I just get error messages like this:
PackageKit Error repo-not-available: Failed to download ./repodata/primary.xml.gz from Index of /update/11.2
(but the site is available in Firefox).
I have tried manual updates through Yast (after setting the proxy) and get pretty much the same thing.
So far I have set the proxy in:
Firefox
/etc/sysconfig/proxy
/etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf
Computer -> Yast -> Network Services -> Proxy (That has a test function which confirms it is working).
Applications -> System Settings -> Network Settings (This tells me that the network settings are controlled by NetworkManager and can't be modified by Yast).

I try to update my computer through the updater and it does not work, it fails, so it brings me to YaST, and that fails to... what is going on? Why are my updates failing?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince applying a number of updates using the online update tool in Yast, the online update tool can no longer contact the software repositories which were configured in Yast.If i browse to the URL which is configured within the software repo config tool, I can see the updates & folders fine in Firefox.Zypper seems to do the same thing & just sits there if I do zypper update.I see a number of other people in this forum have had the same problems, any ideas as I couldn?t find a resolution?

I am using Opensuse 11.4 with KDE Version 4.7.1 and kernel 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop on an Acer TravelMate 4200.I updated my system yesterday and since that update the default Application Launcher for KDE is not working, when you click on the launch icon you get the "Kickoff Application launcher" balloon dialog but nothing else happens. A sort of a work around for this issue is that I have found when the application launcher is switched to Classic Menu Style then the classic menu works without any problems. I would however like to use the default launcher and not the classic one as it has so much more functionality and is easier to use and navigate

After the latest round of updates approx Sep 10, sound has stopped working. (I rarely need sound for anything so it took a while to notice.) In Yast :: Hardware :: Sound it lists all of the devices that were previously defined.
- 0: SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
- 1: RS780 Azalia controller
- 2: Logitech USB headset
- 3: USB Audio
Yet when I go to Gnome :: Control Center :: Hardware :: Sound and select the tab Hardware, nothing is listed. I suspect this is why there is no sound. How do I go about reloading the hardware into the hardware listing?
Suse 11.2 > updated Feb 2 using the Update UI applet.
I had internet connectivity prior to installing the updates. Now I can't reach the internet since installing the updates. I can reach my router, log in to the router I also ping the router but I can not ping the WAN side ip on the router.
When I boot into redmond, no issues, which is what I'm using as I write this.
I have security enabled, WPA2 Personal, not that I think that is an issue as I can reach the router, my server, network printers, and PC's.
I am running a Linksys router but have replaced the standard Linksys software with DD-WRT v24-sp2 build date 12/28/09 std. One note, DD-WRT does hand out IpV6 address but I have disabled FF from using IpV6 address along with the network connection configuration applet from accepting them. (I don't remember the applets name)
In the redmond world this would be a certificate error, is this the same type of an issue? If so how do I fix it?
IPV6 gets more and more interesting. YAST is failing to connect to the repositories. I have disabled ipv6 in several ways but none of them work or YAST (also Konqueror) seems to do it's own thing. I have managed to get Firefox to work see my "slow internet seems to be down to dns post" made earlier today. So as a check on the YAST problem I loaded each of the repository addresses into Firefox and lo they all connect without any problem at all. So it seems that the YAST problem is down to IPV6
In order to disable ipv6 I initially added ipv6.disable=1 to the end of all of the bootloader APPENDS. More recently following up further info on here I added a couple of lines to
/etc/modprobe.d/99-local.conf. These were:
alias net-pf-10 off
alias ipv6 off
This doesn't work either.
Maybe of use to others - It seems it's possible to see if IPV6 is active by typing the following into the command line:
ip a | grep inet6
I'm told if it is active lines will be output? So just what do I do to disable it in YAST and I hope in Konqueror too? It's beginning to look like it is enabled or disabled at the app level according to the Firefox fix.
I'm currently using SuSE 11.4 and after running the full online updates and restarting the machine as YAST suggested, I no longer have eth0/eth1 available.
I'm clueless about what to do since I'm kinda new to Linux and at the moment, I'm trying out all the distros before making a full commitment to anyone. So far, Ubuntu has been trouble-free from day one, but I'm willing to give this distro (opensuse) some slack.
I recently installed OpenSuSE 11.4 including WebYast base system with all available modules. Status shows everything works fine. But the update module has some problems. It displays 21 updates, three of them security and 18 important. By clicking on any of the install buttons the mesages say please wait and then updating while the update time depends on the size of the file. It finishes and goes back to the list of updates without any error message. But after that never shows up any changes or messages that the update has actually installed. Since about ten days the list always remains the same.

But since a few version it doesn't work after installation and I don't know why. I think maybe the errors could happen because I have no

I use an internet connection with a proxy. I have set the proxy in Firefox and systemsettings so now I can browse the web and I can ping Google from Console. But when I start Software Management, it says "Cannot access installation media". Whats wrong?

I was able to establish the network and i have connection to the internet. The suse-machine is rechable by ping from all the other computers in the network. If I'm tryiing to ping the other computers from the suse-machine, nothing happens. The router responds without packet loss, but every other ping occurs in:
From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable

I've been searching for some ideas to solve this problem but couldn't find any.
I can not get my network to work.Wireless shows no networks at all and wired the ethernet light does not even turn on. I have dpne heaps of searching but i can not seem to find a solution.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. This includes ALSA and Pulseaudio.
I have a mic and speakers and a webcam. As far as I can see microphone and sound reproduction work, the webcam also works:
- I can arecord and aplay
- KMix works
- amixer and alsamixer work (I am using microphone boost)
- test sounds play
- the webcam works in "Personal Settings (Configure Desktop)": Hardware > Multimedia > Phonon (test camera)
- Pidgin and Empathy work with sound and video.
(had to set this: gconftool-2 --set --type=string /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc pulsesrc,
without this setting it was set to alsasrc by default and Pidgin and Empathy didn't work).
I installed Skype 2.2 (also tried 2.1) and tested the video camera in Skype. Result: doesn't work.
I made a test call: I hear the voice of the lady answering the call, but my own voice is not recorded.
In Skype everything is set to use Pulseaudio.
I am at a total loss to understand what is going wrong here. Why does Skype not work, when everything else does??
I made this observation:
When an application records something, a "Capture stream" shows up in the KMix "Capture Streams" tab. For example, when I use arecord, "ALSA capture" shows up, while I record. When I make a call on Empathy, a capture stream shows up in the said tab.
When I make a Skype call, NO capture stream shows up, so obviously Skype is not capturing anything.

I'm running 11.2 on a Dell PowerEdge1850. In the normal kernel, bonding is working just fine on the two ethernet ports. When I reboot into the Xen Kernel, I get the following error at boot:
FATAL: Error inserting bonding ... : Unknown symbol in module...
dmesg shows several Unknown symbols. In the end, the module is never loaded.
If I reconfigure the network in Xen to not use bonding, it works fine.
I recently upgraded from 10.3 to 11.2, keeping 10.3 and using Gnome. I can't get web access through various browsers but can ping outside IP's and the ISP DNS works. I'm connected through a DSL modem.
The browsers tried so far include Firefox 3.5.4 -> 3.6, Konquerer, and Lynx.
I have used the Network manager in Yast to make the changes and have compared network files in both 10.3 and 11.2. The settings are the same.
I am having trouble getting ANY publickey to work against OpenSuse 11.3's SSHd. I have tried generaating them on Fresh installs of 11.3 as well as on windows, Freebsd, Opensuse 11.1, OpenSuse 11.2, Mac OSX leopard (PPC), and Fedora. None of them work and it falls back to password authentication when trying to connect to a OpenSuse 11.3 SSHd.

I'm trying to setup NAT for modem0 (ZTE MF100 HSDPA modem) under OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit, however it's not working. The same configuration works with eth0. eth1 is connected to the internal network. These are the commands I used:

After 2 years of good service and after I've changed IP addresses in the router from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.102 my autofs stopped mounting my NAS with NFS. That was the only change.

I have checked the firewall and seen that samba is set to enable for internal allowed services. Also should I be changing the NMBD, SMBD & NTPD to complain from App armor?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a SuSE server (sorry but no idea what version of SuSe it's running.. I'd take a guess at 10.0) on a network with several other SuSE servers. They are all able to be SSHed externally as well as internally and all have their local firewalls disabled. I just had to reboot one of the servers and it is behaving quite strangely. I am able to SSH in and out of it externally, but can't SSH in and out of it internally.
When trying to SSH out internally I get the message:
"ssh: connect to host *.*.*.* port 22: No route to host"
When trying to SSH in internally I get the message:
"ssh: connect to host *.*.*.* port 22: Connection timed out"
Using ssh -v doesn't give any more useful information.
I have double checked that the IP is correct and that the internal firewall is disabled etc. The external firewall hasn't got anything that would prevent it (and shouldn't be an issue anyway as it's an internal only problem... SSH externally works fine). Also, it might help to know that I have the same problem with ping. I can ping this server from an external system, but not from an internal one.

All internet browsing function are ok, but when I try to upload file using sftp to a remote compute - it hangs. This is not a problem of remote computer. Download is working ok. I disabled firewall on wireless router but this did not help.
I've just installed openSUSE 11.2 (KDE 4.3) on my Dell 1720 lapcrusher (a fresh install - had no space to install next to my old openSUSE 11.0, so had to wipe that). I have a huawei e169 (e620) that worked fine in 11.0 (after some initial trouble/configuring, details of which I cannot remember) using knetworkmanager, but try what I might in 11.2 I cannot get this HSDPA modem to connect to my ISP (Virgin Mobile Broadband in Brisbane Australia).
I'm looking for some advice on where to start - first up the modem is detected fine in KDE 4.3, I can setup a profile with the correct APN "VirginBroadband" and "blank" inserted for username/password, and PAP enabled and CHAP disabled - thats pretty much how it was setup under openSUSE 11.0, and it will try to connect but always will not authenticate - I'm not sure at which stage of authentication the process goes pear shaped. I've tried different combos of turning on/off compression/echo options etc, turning on/off MSCHAP/MSCHAP2, but to no avail.
I was trying to activate my wireless connection .... in turn did something that triggered eth0 no-carrier when "ifstatus eth0"

View 4 Replies View RelatedHe has a Samba 3.2 server on openSUSE 11.1. It worked fine with XP and Vista as a PDC. There are no NT servers on this office LAN. Now he has a W7 computer, and he was not able to sign on. From searching, it seems that an upgrade of Samba and a tweak of the registry are required. He did the upgrade to 3.5 from a supplementary openSUSE repo and restarted the server. But it seems he cannot sign on yet. I don't know if he did the registry tweak, I'm waiting to hear back.
The MS article: Windows 7 and Samba 3 interoperability
My question is: He seems to be under the impression that Samba 4 is required to work with W7, but that M$ article seems to contradict him. Has anybody got W7 working with Samba 3 as a PDC like in XP and Vista? I can't find any FAQs about this.
