Fedora :: Viewing Pdf Files In 12 - Error: Couldn't Read Xref Table

I switched back to Fedora after a long time and wow a lot of things have changed! Fedora 12 is looking amazing and the best part is I could install it on my USB so easily. And then I found I couldnt open any PDF files on Fedora - I tried installing AdobeReader, xpdf and openoffice. All of them are just throwing some file format errors.... <I cant push a screenshot now since i removed the packages>
Initally i thought it might be some version conflict but it turned out I couldnt open any pdf's including docs from 5 years back to docs with embedded media content. I know I havent put any info here. I am looking for a little info on what is needed to get Acrobat/Xpdf working in Fedora 12... And I couldn't get any errors logged so I'd like a little help there if I need to share some debug messages...

I'm playing with Fedora 12 and can't get GRUB to work. To boot, I've been using GRUB4DOS. While that works fine, I'd like to figure out what's wrong with regular GRUB 0.97. After the initial installation, GRUB came up on reboot, but it was broken -- it couldn't read the config file apparently, and no commands would work correctly. So I attempted to reinstall grub via the grub prompt. No matter what I do, or which hard disk I install GRUB on, I get "Error 18". I tried using the "grub-install" command as well as the prompt, and that did the same thing.
My system here is an ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO mo/bo. I've got four hard drives. Two 1TB SATA drives and a couple of PATA drives (300 and 500GB) on a Si608 controller card. Using the BIOS "BBS" boot menu, I can boot NTLDR and BOOTMGR off active partitions on any of the drives (with proper Boot.ini modifications to handle the change in drive order). GRUB4DOS works as well, and will boot Fedora 12 correctly off any of them (with proper menu.lst ministrations). But GRUB 0.97 that comes with Fedora just refuses to do anything other than say "Error 18".

In order to upgrade a machine that can not successfully upgrade to 10.4 I downloaded and burned the 10.04.1 iso image off the ubuntu alternate download site. In my first attempt I unsuccessfully burned the image with it failing at the very end. I did perform an md5sum on it and received the precise output I got from my second burn attenpt which DID complete successfully. Here is the output:

I did research this last night and it seems the common wisdom was to reburn the iso (which I did twice) or copy down the iso again. This I also did and it came down precisely, bit for bit, the same as the first one. Here are the two cksums

Is there something wrong with this image on the website or is the error about 1 file being unreadable (could that also mean missing?) be erroneous?

I have installed the fedora 13 x86_64 live cd. I updated fedora as well as installing gparted.y hard disc containing my operating systems is not being read by gparted.unalloacted partition table. Also i am not able to mount a ntfs parition on the same hard disc.I did create the partition table on all hard discs with gparted livAnybody else had this problem? A kernel crash is also reported.DIT:I booted ubuntu 10.04 and opened gparted v5.1 without any problem. I booted fedora 13 again and now gparted 5.2

when I try to view php files on my linux box, they want to download instead of viewing them. I configured apache for php as the manual said but for some reason it doesn't want to parse the php. the http.conf file may need to be changed, that the line "AddModule mod_php4.c" was missing in the conf, however the AddModule and ClearModuleList directives no longer exist in the newer versions of Apache. These directives were used to ensure that modules could be enabled in the correct order. The new Apache 2.0 API allows modules to explicitly specify their ordering, eliminating the need for these directives.

On a KDE4 environment after downloading some music from rapidshare with JDownloader the archives self-extracted with the symbol in some of the file names. Those files couldn't be renamed or deleted, the file manager said that the files didn't exist - very weird. The files should have had some swedish characters in their file names. Now I'm stuck with those files on my machine. Anyone knows how to get rid of them?

i just upgraded to 10.10 thru update manager, had problems upgrading, had to disable Nvidia - nouveau to upgrade and everything went well for 5 days but then i disabled backports in software sources then i changed visual affect from normal to extra and turned computer off. NOW i cant use ubuntu it just freezes on the purple ubuntu screen prior to login.have tried using safe mode and repair broken packages, which did a 21mb update but still nothing but freeze. i get this message in safe mode

I have a pdf file (nasm documentation) that used to be displayed perfectly with xpdf, but now all code example lines remain blank. On the terminal I get repeated lines such as:

I tried to figure out the problem... the same problem occurs with both evince and okular. However it does not occur when opening the same file under root (tested with xpdf), so it seems to be some permission problem. I tried searching on the error message but couldn't find a working solution.

create a VM here with virsh. I've managed to create the XML file and got it to work properly, however running it is the problem. We purchased a virtual server from GoDaddy (1 month trial) to set up as a proxy for our networks (24 of them). I am having 2 separate issues. The first is I can't configure/install NAT and support is telling me the only way I can is to purchase a dedicated server. Here's the error:

On my old centos 5.2 installation, yesterday my system stopped. The only daemon working was the ping. Every other were not working ( http, svnserver, vncserver, ssh ... ) but yesterday morning everything worked fine! Since the system is headless, I rebooted the computer this morning. Then it never came back. I placed a screen on the computer and when the computer boots, I can see : loading grub stage 2 then I have a black screen with grub>
There is something wrong ... I'm sad because I moved in my new house and did not took the time to restart my backups ( in fact, I did not found the AC adapter for the external drive ) ... I downloaded the brand new centos 5.5 installation DVD and when I try to upgrade my system the installer tells me that the partition on 1 hd is not readable. Then I ignore the message but before getting to the partition manager, it tells me that the partition table for the lvm 00 ( /home ) can not be found and I have to reboot. Since this hard disk is the biggest ( 1tb ) and all of my data is on this one, I'd like to know what I can do to recover this data ?

eth1 which is connected to interneteth2 internal networkbecause the server is part of a complicate network i need to setup the routing tables for eth1 and eth2but i need that the default 0.0.0.0 must be read from eth1 while i dont know why the server first read the one on eth2. this creates big problem to me.if i add the default route to eth1 i get an error saying that the default route already exist (i suppose is the one on eth2)how i can solve this ? i must create a script that first delete the default from eth2 and after add it to eth1

I wrote a simple code using Open Inventor(OpenGL) classes to print a Sphere in a .png file.I tested it on Windows and it worked well.But when I run it on Fedora 10, I got the following error with no output .png file:

I'm trying to install Ubuntu Linux 10.04 on my computer with following specs:
ASUS P5KR Mobo
HIS 2600XT GFX
160 GB Hitachi Harddisk (SATA)
500 GB Hitachi Harddisk (SATA) - Only for Data.
The 160 GB Harddisk is currently split into 3 main partitions: i) 200 MB created by Win7 setup.
1) Windows 7
2) Leopard OSX
3) Partition formatted in Leopard as Journal which is empty, meaning I can convert this if I want and onto which I will install Ubuntu.
My problem is that despite booting up fine, installer starting and working fine, it cannot however detect my partition table, it thinks its unallocated.
The funny thing is that I can mount the partitions and view the data but the installer however can't see it.

Basically I'm writing a shell script that takes information from text files then outputs the data into a table with 4 headings.he extracting of the data is fine, but creating a table i'm having problems with. I'm trying to install Fedora 3 Core on an old hard drive I had lying around. The problem I'm having is that when I go to manually repartition the hard drive with Disk Druid I get this error: Could not allocate requested partitions: Partitioninf Failed: Could not allocate partitions as primary partitions. So I decided to reinstall my 10.10 to undo the 'encrypted home folder feature.' I know are other ways to undo the encryption, but for various reasons I'd rather just do a quick reinstall and start fresh.Currently, I dual boot linux and windows, each with their respective partitions. ive been dual booting ubuntu and windows for a while now. For the first time in weeks ive booted windows XP, and i really hate the fact that windows explorer can't read more than the first partitions. Is there a way to make the explorer see more? I want to be able to reach my files on the ubuntu partition from windows, not just the other way

I'd like to know how to see which files have been printed on the printer. I can see which print jobs have run and who submitted them using the following command:

$ lpstat -W completed -o
but it doesn't show me the names of the files that printed.
Is there a way to set a retention policy to have it hold the job in the queue even after it's finished printing? Or a command to view the details of jobs that have already run? I'm looking for something similar to the output of the lpq command.
