Fedora Servers :: Executive File Cannot Be Opened / Solve This?
Feb 4, 2009I have a server installed with a Fedora 8 and the other client PC were installed with Windows XP. Recently, I copied an educational courseware (this courseware is developed specially for Windows based PC) into the Linux-based server. I found that the .EXE (application file) :were unable to be opened in all of the clients and also the server. How can I solve this problem?

I can't automate this task in the source webpage itself because that has to be there as it is for the users who access the webpage. How to achieve it?

Jan 13, 2010On a KDE4 environment after downloading some music from rapidshare with JDownloader the archives self-extracted with the symbol in some of the file names. Those files couldn't be renamed or deleted, the file manager said that the files didn't exist - very weird. The files should have had some swedish characters in their file names. Now I'm stuck with those files on my machine. Anyone knows how to get rid of them?

Feb 11, 2010Before installing Fedora on my laptop I backed up my files onto a USB key. I wiped the hard disk and installed Fedora 12. I copied my files back to my home directory - but all the text files are now binary! Mar 7, 2011I recently upgraded from FC12 to FC14 due to errors using yum and rpm. I keep running into mirror sites with RPM files that don't install. These site have what appear to be valid RPM files, but if I use wget to retrieve the file and run "file" on it, it turns out to be an HTML file. I understand the fact that if a file is corrupted, it won't install, but I can open these "RPM" files using Mozilla after changing the extension from RPM to HTML. When I open the new HTML file, I'm prompted by the browser to open or save the RPM file. If I save the RPM file pointed to by the HTML file, I can download and install it using rpm -ivvh unless a dependency check fails. how does anyone install using yum if the package is an HTML file with an RPM extension. Here is a link as an example:

If I use wget on this file and then run "file" on it, here is the output:

If I change the extension of this file to HTML and open it with my browser, I am prompted to download the RPM file which turns out to be a true RPM v3.0 file. Is anyone else having this problem or can anyone point me in the right direction to download the correct RPM file. I am running behind a proxy server and have installed cntlm, configured wgetrc, yum.conf and .curlrc to use the proxy server. I am able to download and install most of the simpler applications where the dependencies are either installed or non required.

Jun 26, 2010What is the easiest way to make it so that these transferred files will not be completely locked out and require me to go and change them one by one sohat i can access them without having to go root. Also the "apply to all subfolders and files" doesn't work. Also trying to set the SELinux rule to "userspace" doesn't do anything else. Basically i was trying to do just that transfer my $home folder over to fedora but now it's being a bit odd towards me with making everything require root access and not letting me read/write all files and folders within them.

On my desktop I logged into the live cd and started copying over a big file (1.5 GB) (i.e. copying from the desktop computer to the server). After copying about half the fil, the download fails with an error message about the filesystem being read-only.I've seen this exact same behavior on both i386 and x86_64 of the same live CD, but don't know why it's happening. /var/named/*
I checked /etc/sysconfig/named too... Seems to have no effect on my brand new install on Fedora 11. Host B stays basically un-configured.

Jun 10, 2011I get a SD card. Put in the SD reader. It's empty. I go to my super-important-pictures-to-a-monthly-relatory folder and select all files. Select them for MOVE. Paste them on the SD card. When the move/paste process is finished, i click on the "Eject" button on top of the SD card name. Card's ejected. I can't access the card anymore. I take out the card and put on my other computer. From 300 pictures, there are only 10 available, the remaining ones are there, but with 0bytes and unrecoveable. I panic. I go back to my main computer, my pictures are not there anymore. The pictures were on the Home folder. I panic again. I reset the computer and boot on the LiveCD. I install foremost, scalpel, photorec and about everything till my USB drive complains about being filled up. I run everything and I can't recover my files. I'm in the danger of getting fired. Things like that makes Windows sounds more appealing. When you securely remove a pendrive, things get REALLY pasted there before screwing everything up with a removal.

Dec 30, 2010I currently have three hard drives: (2) 150GB IDE drives (windows) and (1) 500GB SATA drive (fedora13). I'm trying to move files on the IDE drives to the SATA drive so that I only need the SATA drive. The SATA drive is running Fedora 13 and the other two were old NTFS drives that I just use for space now. So most of the files copied fine, however, for a handful of them I receive the following error:Error splicing file: Value too large for defined data type This happens when I try to copy files not only from drive to drive, but even from folder to folder on the same drive. I've read about a 2GB file size limit, but none of the files are that size. I have no idea why this is happening.

Feb 17, 2011I had fedora 13 installed on my computer which is used a server for my php development. I had all my projects on that server. Not sure what caused this but my linux is not loading at all. It tries to load the kernel but fails and restart the machine.I confirmed that there is no hardware failure. I am planning to reinstalling fedora on the machine but I can't loose my projects which were in /var/www folder and the /home directory. Unfortunately I didn't take back for last 1 month.I wanted to know:
1) Is there any way I can recover the data for www and home folder
2) If I reinstall the fedora again then will it delete my old data on machine.
Really in a difficult situation as my projects development is halted due to this. Want to have some advice before reinstalling fedora.

May 19, 2010I downloaded some .iso files recently, and don't really know what to do with them. Unless I'm mistaken, I should burn them onto a CD, and then be able to mount them and get the program to run, but that doesn't seem to be working. All it does when I put the disk in is open the folders showing all the files. Am I completely off base with what I'm doing, or is there just a step I'm missing or something?
