Fedora :: Software Update Or Add / Remove Software Does Not Work In LXDE
Jul 4, 2011
I've installed F15 Gnome 3 and after a while in using this interface, I decided I rather go back to the LXDE desktop. so I've removed GNOME and installed LXDE.I'm not sure if it worked in GNOME 3 - but now in the LXDE I'm unable to install software using Add/Remove Software applet or check for software updates. When I attempt to do so - I get an error message telling me that "Authorization failed" - it doesn't even prompt me for the root password and I've resorted to having to do the install of new software and updates through the command line using "yum install ..... " and "yum upgrade".
I installed lxde, but my wireless internet doesn't work. I can switch back to gnome and it works perfectly. I tried wicd and manually connecting with the command line. Both fail while trying to get an ip.
How to remove LXDE from ubuntu 10.10? i've followed the instructions in [URL] to uninstall it, but it's also uninstall several application that i need.
loaded on my system. Version 2.6.30.5-43 hangs after the progress bar completes with messges labeled r8169 about the ehternet link status. Version 2.6.29.6-2317.2 boots just fine. How do I remove version 2.6.30.5-43 from the system?
I m using pidgin2.5.5-1 that is old version of pidgin because of some proxy issue, I dont want to update it anymore but it keeps on showing its update in package updater its very annoying...How could i get rid of it ?I want package updater show all updates except this...that is permanently remove it from update check list.
I installed Fedora 12. I noticed that every possible language support is included in Firefox. What is the reason for this? Will Fedora and Firefox still work if I remove these languages?
My wifi does not work in the actual debian testing jessie lxde amd64 with wicd version (fresh install). What I've done:
0. Fresh testing jessie install (offline and ignored the question for adding iwlwifi)
1. Adding following sources: deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
2. apt-get update
3. apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi
4. modprobe -r iwlwifi ; modprobe iwlwifi
So searching the web just brings up the wheezy way solution (backport new kernel and iwlwifi).
But in this case, actual jessie testing kernel is already installed by default and so the actual 43 firmware-iwlwifi
Some information: Code: Select all# dpkg -l |grep -i iwlwifi ii firmware-iwlwifi 0.43 all Binary firmware for Intel Wireless cards
Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:
Code:
Entering non-interactive startup Starting monitoring for VG vg_user1: 3 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg_user1" monitored
[code]....
I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?
Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?
I just upgraded from fc9 to fc10 via the live cd. All went smooth. I tried to run yum update, but it keeps failing. I thought maybe there was something wrong with the repos, so I copied the repo files from another pc I have that is running fc10 and is able to run yum update.
Still get errors: [root@sony yum.repos.d]# yum clean all Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Cleaning up Everything [root@sony yum.repos.d]# yum update Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit rpmfusion-nonfree-updates | 2.7 kB 00:00 rpmfusion-nonfree-updates/primary_db | 81 kB 00:00 [URL]: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (101, 'Network is unreachable')> Trying other mirror. I am working for Fedora 12 installed on my laptop, and skype has worked. I was able to speak, able to listen and everything (besides some installation problems) was working fine.
Then I allowed Fedora to update(or bugfix or enhacement) some items of my system.
Now when I click on the loudspeaker symbol in the panel and open the mixer I see various tabe for sound input and output. Finally a good idea, and I even have a slide for skype!
But it does not work, I don't hear anything from skype (version 2.1.0.47).
I am able to record and playback via arecord/aplay, so in principal it should work. Any ideas what is wrong? Maybe a bug in a bugfix?
I use FC9. Yesterday after system update I turned of the computer, but today when it booted the wireless didn't work, ndiswrapper device wlan0:1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.I have removed and again installed the wireless driver and looks like it is ok,
[root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -r bcmwl6 [root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -i /fatfs/Archiv/Softwere/Drivers/Dr_software/bcmwl6.inf installing bcmwl6 ... [root@localhost utils]# after ndiwwrapper -m it gives warning( or error )[root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -m module configuration already contains alias directive [Code]....
I am running Fedora 12 with KDE on an Acer Aspire One netbook.
A recent update has caused the KDE shutdown/restart/logout buttons (found for example through the Fedora -> Leave menu or by pressing the power off switch)to stop working. I am having to shutdown using shutdown -P now command.
So I have the following questions:
a) Has anyone else had this issue and knows a workaround/fix?
b) Does anyone know what package these belong to so I can try an older version?
c) Does anyone know where this package writes its logs, or if I need to install anything for it to do so so I can have a look?
d) Does anyone know the command-line interface to these commands - that may give me either a more gentle workaround than shutdown -P now, or some insight into why the command is no longer working.
I am running Fedora 12 on an Intel Core 2 Duo system. I ran a software update which installed a new kernel (2.6.32.23-170.fc12.i686.PAE) along with many other things. I am now unable to run VirtualBox which I had installed and running successfully before the update. I tried removing and reinstalling VirtualBox from YUMEX, and rebooting. This did not help. When I launch VirtualBox from a terminal, it produces the following output:
VirtualBox: supR3HardenedMainGetTrustedMain: dlopen("/usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox.so",) failed: VBoxVMM.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'm not sure what it is complaining about. The files VirtualBox.so and VBoxVMM.so both exist in the /usr/lib/virtualbox directory.
What can be done to get VirtualBox working again on this system?
I was trying to update the new nvidia drivers since they dont seem to work in the newer kernel, or to try to fix it but now when i run yum update I get a screen like this:
Downloading Packages: Running rpm_check_debug ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: kernel-uname-r = 2.6.38.3-18.fc15.i686.PAE is needed by (installed) kmod-nvidia-2.6.38.3-18.fc15.i686.PAE-1:270.41.06-1.fc15.i686
I'm trying to switch from debian to fedora (13) and I'm stuck at getting yum to remove leave dependencies.
So far I've installed "yum-plugin-remove-with-leaves" and I'm able to remove leave dependencies if I invoke yum with the "--remove-leaves" argument from command line.
But this doesn't work with graphical front ends and I want to remove unused leave dependencies every time if I remove a package not just if I remember to invoke yum with the "--remove-leaves" argument.
Later on I discovered an option in "/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/remove-with-leaves.conf" named "remove_always = 1" and uncommented it. But yum doesn't seem to care. I still need to add the "--remove-leaves" argument otherwise yum isn't going to remove the leave dependencies.
How to configure yum to handle dependencies the way I used to know from apt under debian? Install a package with a graphical front end and dependencies get pulled in as needed. Uninstall a package later on and dependencies installed in the first place are removed as well if not needed by anything installed in between.
Lubuntu is nice - but it seems the LXDE version is not as up to date as Fedora LXDE Spin or even Debian squeeze with LXDE installed. I do like Chromium on Lubuntu though... its faster and a nice touch. I am looking for a lightweight 64-bit distribution for my main laptop (it is by no means "old" or "low spec" but I like that Lubuntu starts up in like 2 secs).
LXDE version seems not to be recent (esp in 10.04 version which seems to work more stably for me - with Nvidia drivers etc)64 bit install is currently a pain - requires first install of minimal CD or alternate CD both of which required wired Ethernet, then install of lubuntu from PPA. Native 64-bit support would be nice. Linux Mint LXDE, for example, is also only 32-bit.
I installed LXDE and want to choose each boot whether to run Gnome or LXDE. However Gnome gets started automatically without me being able to choose. Are there any config files I have to edit?
