Fedora Security :: Program That Blocks Ips From Iplists / Install It?
Aug 11, 2011
I'm new to fedora and I'm looking for a program that blocks ips from iplists is there anyone like that for fedora 15? and if it's not in yum how do i install it?
i have installed ubuntu 10.10 marverick, and on it i have installed code: blocks 10.05 and i want to run a program using opencv 2.1.0 in code: blocks.. when i build the program it builds properly without any warning but when i run it it does not show any output....
I installed Code:Blocks (8.02 from ubuntu software center) and try to run sample program (at first I tried some program related to OpenCV and configure the project for it).
The Build went OK but I cant Run the program. So I tried the simplest progrma of hello World and still I get the same error even on a clean new project.
The Error: "error while loading shared libraries: cv.so can not open shared object file : No such file or directory"
I was wondering if there is a way to find out IP blocks based on a given region. I know there are IP Lookups that will tell you what Country and possibly City a given IP is from. What I want is the following:
- I would like to set up a IPTABLES rule that implements something like:
=> ALLOW VPN connections FROM THIS ISP/IP BLOCKS THAT ARE IN CITY XYZ
Basically, I want to limit my incoming VPN connections FROM my ISP in the surrounding area. So, for example, I can go to my friends house who also has the same ISP. I should be able to connect from his home to mine because we have 1) same ISP 2) IP blocks is confined to a particular local location.
I Installed a game server on my ubuntu desktop which is on port 7777. I can join the gameserver without any problems on my local network but when I'm trying to join using my external IP address its not working.
This is what I did:I Forwarded my port inside my router but it still didn't work.
I Removed UFW from my ubuntu machine
I Tried portforwarding with an other machine (iMac) and it's working there
Is there any Security on Ubuntu Desktop that's blocking my gameserver
I Got 2 Network cards in my Ubuntu PC
1. Is A Ethernet card that I use to connect my iMac to the Ubuntu PC (Internet Sharing on my iMac) For fast file transfers.
2. Is A WLAN card that I use to connect my Ubuntu PC to our network.
If this is not the correct place for this question, let me know Basically, I looked on my system and found 2 log files :
hs_err_pid29717.log hs_err_pid29774.log
I found that they belong to "HotSpot"? But, I never downloaded/installed HotSpot.I did a "last" and saw that only local machines have logged into the one with logs:IP addrsses of 192.168.1.xxx
My program attributes (it uses semanage to change range): I'd like to ordinary user (bartek) can execute my program. I executed as root:
chmod u+s se_chmod4
so now my user can change his range in permissive mode by my program. My politic: In enforcing mode i can see attributes but when i want to excute i get:
How should look like my TE file that user (bartek) could execute my program (forget at moment about "semanage")?
I ordered a SuSE 11.4 installation DVD from an online Linux Distro distributer that I've used before with no problems. I did this rather than burn my own DVD from the website. I thought that I might perform a fresh install of SuSE 11.4 on this Dell 1420 Laptop that is currently running Ubuntu 11.04.
Note, this is a completely fresh install, not a side-by-side installation with Ubuntu; I followed the installation sequence that completely repartitions the entire disk for SuSE, and accepted all of the suggested options regarding logon, etc.
Everything goes well ... sort of. The first install didn't reboot correctly, i.e., the set-up that is supposed to run after the initial install never happened and I had to manually power-down the machine and restart from the "safe mode." Needless to say, that didn't work as expected. So, I re-install, from scratch, trying different options: for instance, instead of LVM, I decide to have an un-encrypted partition scheme and accept the "obvious" options ... thinking that the LVM options interacted badly with the install. Eventually I get the installation to proceed correctly, or so it appears: it goes though the entire sequence, including the re-boot, building the default image, etc.
I test this image by removing the DVD, power-cycling the machine, and all looks good, so I begin the process of installing software updates, etc. Being paranoid, I re-boot the machine, and all restarts correctly, etc.
Now here's the annoying thing. The next day, I power the machine on, and it locks at the splash screen. By the way, these are the exact symptoms that I experienced with the bogus/incomplete installations. The boot sequence proceeds up to the splash screen and waits forever.
So, in sum: I spent inordinate amounts of time attempting to install this software, carefully following the instructions provided by the installer. In every instance, after leaving the machine off for a day or so and rebooting, I am met with a splash screen that sits forever. Needless to say, I am extremely reluctant to repeat another day of software installation to only have to re-start with no assurances of success. Either I go back to ugly Ubuntu (which has always worked out of the box, by the way), or I look at other options. I was hoping to use SuSE, but I really don't care which distro is on that machine as long as it works and it provides TeX, R, Emacs, Scheme, and a few other software packages that I'm sure are of no interest to your customer base.
I need to write program (preffer Python) to change range for users. Does anyone know some library which can help me to do that? Maybe someone has written program like that?
I have searched everywhere for the error I am getting which pertains to "E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)" I came across this when I was trying to uninstall dovecot through apt. This is what I am doing:

# apt-get --purge remove dovecot Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done
This happened when I was trying to install Ubuntu 11.04 from a disc, when I boot from the USB or CD I create of Ubuntu it gets past the selection menu and then I get stuck at this screen, keyboard is completely frozen, no HDD activity light or anything. This happened the same way when trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 This is an ASUS g60jx laptop, I would have assumed this was fixed by now, is their a special graphic mode I have to enter when installing?
The debian 5.0.8 ppc cd (regular and xfce) say invalid no of allocation blocks when checked. And when burned and booted with DEBCONF_PRIORITY=low cant load all of the addiotinal installer components, and wont retry. Is the debian cd supposted to be like that or is that a problem with it, i tried burning it twice and it had errors loading installer components both times when i booted them. Are my cds just the problem?
I am having some text rendering issues.I am using F14 and having blocky (dark black blob) covering certain letters and/or numbers when rendering to my Monitor. I am using 'mesa' drivers and was wondering if this has anything to do with it.I wish to use only non-proprietary drivers.I have several friends whose machine I manage and they have been experiencing a similar phenomena.I use 19 and 22 inch LCD monitors and my friends have similar LCD monitors.I have attached a copy of some output with the problem. I have tried different fonts but have not been able to resolve the issue. Could someone help me in getting a possible solution to this problem?
i am having problems with firefox4 and flash with some sites like msnbc. videos seems to be ok. flash displays displays various blocks of color and is not usable when the problems presents itself. i have the problem on f13,f14, f15 with all versions of firefox4 on two different machines (intel and ati graphics). i tried the new test ubuntu (11.04) and all is fine so i am thinking it is something special about fedora's flash plugin. i mentioned this a couple of weeks ago and it didn't seem to be a common experience.
I'm trying to install a program on Fedora 12. I am not so good with linux yet. Anyways so as I enter the command in the source directory of this program. The following is generated:
Code: [root@189066 verlihub-0.9.8e-r2]# ./configure checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for gawk... gawk
[Code]....
See `config.log' for more details. how to install the missing stuff? via rpms or download sources and compile?
I have the following machine : laptop : Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless : Intel Pro Wireless 3945 (ipw3945-1.2.2 + ipw3945d-1.7.22 + ipw3945-ucode-1.14.2 / eth1) Printer : HP C4580 Photosmart wireless (hplip-3.9.8) Ethernet : Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0100Base-TX (b44.ko / eth0) External Modem : Siemens CL-110 ADSL OS : Fedora 6+11 (currently on fc6)
The external modem is connected via the laptop ethernet and provides the internet connection. The printer is connected via wireless adhoc to the laptop's IPW3945 wireless card. I use firestarter as firewall. When firestarter is disabled everything works fine. If enabled it blocks my printer. I have tried to open every possible port via firestarter (according to several other threads) with no luck. My printer is set (under system-config-printer) as :
My VLC player blocks screensaver while playing, but my monitor still turns off when watching for some time. I did a few searches, but I don't see any good keywords so I'm starting a new thread.
I've just got another sata HDD and thought lets put in a nice install of Fedora 14 having tried out the live CD over the weekend. Right my system is configured thus

When I install wine the add/remove program wants to install both 86_64 and i686 files. I have the x86_64 version of Fedora 14. I am having problems with counterstrike and have installed it using Wine, have noted problems when both types of files are installed.
I would like to have Fedora set up just right but as with all Linux distros, am having trouble keeping my head above water with fc14. I have success up to a point and then want to go back to Windows for its simplicity. Just this wine problem
I've looked through a few websites looking for a way to install a CAC reader to use with DoD. I would think that Fedora nee Redhat would support this out of the box, but it appears not to be the case.It appears to need pcscd (with possible restarts on login), coolkey, and various other packages, and DoD certs 11 through 26.What is the easiest way to get the CAC working? I know Linux can do it. The Air Force developed a live CD which recognizes the CAC reader by default.
I have a text based game installed on a Linux server, and I would like to allow logins on that server via SSH, but with restrictions. The login should go directly to the game which reads keyboard input from stdin. If the game quits the user should be immediately disconnected from the server. Alternately, if the user logs in there should only be one command available to the user, the game.I have thought about using a web based interface to the game, but there is something about playing the game in a terminal that just feels right. Please don't reply with "this is a bad idea..." or its variants because that is an easy out. I just want to know if anyone knows of a solution.
