I'm using Fedora 15 in fallback mode.
Is it possible to remove the desktop switcher applet from the bottom panel? Or autohide or even delete a panel? That is, is there software I can install to do these things in Gnome 3?
I'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

get rid of the bottom panel in Opensuse 11.2 and just use a dock with applets. However, if I remove the bottom panel, the little icon that allows me to connect to wireless will go with it, right? And it wouldn't do me much good to get rid of that, because then I can't connect to the Internet...So, is there a wireless connection applet for the dock? I didn't see one anywhere. I can install the file manager app, but could I access it from there on the dock? I just want to make sure I can still connect to the Internet without the bottom panel.

I can remove the panel once logged in but it still appears on the login screen (showing a clock and choices of WMs, etc). I want my end user to see nothing on the login screen but my custom background and the box where he types his username and password.

I like to remove them completely so my Dock dominate the screen. At the same time i like to bring both the bar later if i need them.
How to remove the bar and how can i bring the bar again.
My computer freaked out, and started opening new windows in the bottom panel by the thousands. The windows didn't open in the main desktop, but the bottom panel filled up with new window icons and kept filling so fast the whole panel became a slithering, pulsing mass of rapidly opening window icons that compressed to the max to fit in the panel. I opened system monitor and both my CPU cores were at nearly 100%. I ran top anda process called something like "gnome-panel" was at the top of the list with over 50% CPU usage. I ran kill on the PID of that process, and got a bunch of funky popup error messages about the panel reloading (never seen that before), and I was able to finally get the panel to clear out. Now nothing shows up in the bottom panel even when I open a window for Firefox, or open a folder on the desktop. I know there are still open windows, but they don't show up in the bottom panel. Even after restarting the computer nothing shows in the bottom panel. Any ideas on what I killed and how to get the bottom panel back to normal?

Installation was smooth, all of my devices were automatically detected and all seemed good.Then I restart the computer, and when everything comes back up, the processor, MB, and GPU are all working (showing a temperature) but none of the (6) hard drives are showing a temperature. After fiddling around with it I found that removing the applet from the panel, and then adding it back again fixes the problem. But then the next time I restart the computer it breaks again.

I'm using the latest version of acroread (ver. 9.3.4-1lucid1) from the repos. Have run it for a week or so and got a pop-up re an update. I (stupidly) approved the upgrade and the tracker immediately appeared. There is no intuitive way in which to shut it off.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI like 11.04 with Unity however I would like to find a method of managing workspaces with mouse (not keyboard) which gives constant visual feedback and is faster than using the launcher bar, which although not 'slow', takes time to appear and it then takes time to locate the (non movable) desktop switcher item.I happily adopt most of what 11.04 (Unity) offers, however, I really still miss the good visual feedback and the single click action that the lower panel (classic) desktop switcher used. Is there a way of me using some item in unity which is closely similar?

But for some reason there is no obvious way to change the transparency of applets. Their transparency depends on the current theme. For example with the theme "radiance" window-switcher and date are opaque. With "human-clearlooks" both are transparent.
Is there a way change the transparency without changing the theme?
I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?

I using Opensuse 11.3 gnome. I opened new panel to put some icons on it and I check Autohide option, after that it disappeared but I can see it there(left of the screen). How I fix that? Remove the panel or something like that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did differently before this happens. Now I cannot access files or see icons on the desktop. The "starting file manager" continuously loops in the bottom panel, continuing to load forever. in the system monitor, if I kill the process "gnome panel", it resets itself, then continues the process. Only thing different I did was install that one thing that gives you System->Preferences->Windows by hitting "yum install control-center-extra".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a slight problem with an applet I'm trying to run. I don't have problems running any other java applets from other websites or anything but for some reason the applet I developed shows the gray-screen and says 'Start: applet not initialized.' at the bottom.
There are no errors in the error console.Java is working on my web browser (mozilla firefox).I'm running Ubuntu 10.10.Here's my code, the program is for my friend and she uses a mac, so is this issue specific for Ubuntu? I made the applet using Eclipse Ganymede.
