OpenSUSE :: If Delete The Bottom Panel, Is There A Wireless Connection Applet For The Dock
Jul 11, 2010
get rid of the bottom panel in Opensuse 11.2 and just use a dock with applets. However, if I remove the bottom panel, the little icon that allows me to connect to wireless will go with it, right? And it wouldn't do me much good to get rid of that, because then I can't connect to the Internet...So, is there a wireless connection applet for the dock? I didn't see one anywhere. I can install the file manager app, but could I access it from there on the dock? I just want to make sure I can still connect to the Internet without the bottom panel.

I am trying with different Docks. Currently i am hiding both top and bottom bar of my Ubuntu.
I like to remove them completely so my Dock dominate the screen. At the same time i like to bring both the bar later if i need them.
How to remove the bar and how can i bring the bar again.

I'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

I'm using Fedora 15 in fallback mode.
Is it possible to remove the desktop switcher applet from the bottom panel? Or autohide or even delete a panel? That is, is there software I can install to do these things in Gnome 3?

I am just wondering if anyone else is running into this weird behavior on KDE 4.6. It's on an openSUSE 11.4 installation, 64 bit, on a laptop with 2 monitors. Normally, I have the following desktop/wallpaper/icon combo:Then, when I accidentally click my mouse on the bottom of my panel, I get this very ugly desktop for some reason:Also, when I then right-click in the desktop area to change back the wallpaper, the "Change Desktop Background" option does not work. This only affects the current desktop I am working on, so I end up just moving all my work to a new desktop, but it's awfully annoying. I don't even know where the wallpaper comes from - it's not one of the options in my wallpaper settings

I'm sure its something incredible simple, but I haven't been able to find it

I am running openSUSE 11.3 on a Lenovo S10 netbook. I have the default panel that is installed with the Slab etc at the bottom of the screen set to autohide. However, it does not do this consistently. Sometimes I have to minimize and then maximize an app window to get it to hide again.

how to get a globalmenu applet in my top panel?
I checked the packman repository ... not there. I tried to build the tarball from ...
Downloads - gnome2-globalmenu - Project Hosting on Google Code
... but got hung up when sudo ./configure replied: test for libpanelapplet-2.0 and libnotify failed. (--without-gnome-panel to disable)
the error did not go away when i installed libnotify-devel (and libpanel-applet-2-0 was already plugged int).

I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?
Attached is a screen shot of what I mean.

It just hit me that I'd minimized a bunch of windows....and they were nowhere to be found. Alt-Tab allows me to scroll through them, but even though I've uninstalled cairo-dock now, I still can't get them to minimize to the bottom bar. It is as if I've nothing open.

I have a slight problem with an applet I'm trying to run. I don't have problems running any other java applets from other websites or anything but for some reason the applet I developed shows the gray-screen and says 'Start: applet not initialized.' at the bottom.
There are no errors in the error console.Java is working on my web browser (mozilla firefox).I'm running Ubuntu 10.10.Here's my code, the program is for my friend and she uses a mac, so is this issue specific for Ubuntu? I made the applet using Eclipse Ganymede.
Code:
import java.awt.*;
import java.applet.*;[code].....
The .class file, .au song, and .html file are all in the same directory.

I am running Ubuntu Karmic and I have the Cairo-Dock as my launcher. I am trying to figure out how to change the icons in the "Shortcuts" applet, but I am running into trouble. I did find where the icons are stored, but I was looking for a way to point to different icons instead of overwriting the originals. I have attached a screenshot of the applet and icons in question. By the way, I did try changing the overall icon theme of Cairo-Dock and that seems to have absolutely 0 effect on the applet icons.

I think all I have to do is disable gnome-panel somehow, but I wanted to check here first, so I don't screw up my computer. As it is, I have the dock working great. However, I can't just turn off the panel, which I currently have at the top of the screen.

I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:
root's password:
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
