I would like to replace the exiting kernel in one of my Fedora 11 installs with an earlier kernel from a Fedora 10 Unity Spin...so I can use it to bring ATI functionality to Fedora 11. Also, I recall there being a way to unpack rpms and 'repackage' them using a different kernel development set. How is this done?

I've had so much trouble with PHP and broken releases, I suggest Fedora keep at least 4-5 releases in yum so that users can easily switch versions. Certainly 5.3.2 should not be released.I've been looking for my FC11 disk and as soon as I find it, my FC12 machine is going backwards just so I can run a version of PHP that actually works. This should not be necessary, but.....
Is it possible to just roll back the version of Mesa on my install to an earlier version...I think this is the key to getting my game to work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed openSuse 11.4 64bit with KDE 4.6 and that's when the trouble started. If I put a data or mp3 cd in the drive it can be mounted. Simple audio cds refuse to mount, giving me only the option to play on one of the audio players. Since I wanted to move some music to the computer I've had to resort to windows to copy files then transfer them. How can I force KDE/Suse to behave the way I want or do I have to revert to an earlier version with KDE3.5? I suspected that System Settings/Removable Devices was where I needed to be but nothing I did worked. So then I tried playing with System Settings/Device Actions and again nothing seemed to work. I can't mount the CD manually,I get this (using su -c "mount etc"

Since the last kernel update to 11.2 64bit portions of my video does not work right in windows XP running in either Vmplayer or Vbox. The effect is felt with my Webcam - picture is either garbled or blank not responsive at all. all other video functions in my VM's and Suse seem OK! can I revert or set my kernel back to its prior state? If so how? Also I have both "default" and "desktop" kernels - the problem is the same in each. If I can move the kernel back to its state prior to most recent update can I do it to just one of the kernels to see if it solves the problem?

and then i tried cp /boot/config-2.6.38.6-26.rc1.fc15.i686.PAE .config to override the default config but stil that doesnt work. work around to get a proper config so that i can boot the latest kernel here?
I have fedora 12 currently installed on my laptop, but would like to install another version along side it. How do I do this? Will it detect the second version automatically and add a grub entry? Or do I need to do something else. Also, what partitions need formatting, do any new one except '/' need creating?

I am a complete stranger to Linux and don't know a thing about this . But my cousin has installed Fedora Linux ( she says it is Linux on Unix , Red Hat Nash ) on my laptop . The laptop was having Lotus symphony earlier and it had only single partition . As a result the Linux had overridden the existing OS and all the data is lost.
My requirement is to retrieve the lost data before I format my system again.. If it is possible to recover the lost data and if yes how to do that.

I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)

I've been searching for an hour or so and can't seem to find a concrete answer. My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine. Last year I used 10.04 LTS and it worked fine, this year I wanted to start with the newest and go from there. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Win XP installed on one hard disk drive (HDD1) and Ubuntu 9.10 installed on another hard disk drive (HDD2). Win XP was installed first then Unbuntu 9.10 which set up a dual boot menu. Win XP will no longer boot because I changed the BIOS setting from IDE to AHCI. The problem this causes is described at [URL]. The problem is that if you installed Windows in IDE mode (ie you didn't use F6 and supply a driver disk), then simply changing the BIOS setting to AHCI mode and rebooting will cause Windows to fail and will require a repair install. Most people have been advising to reinstall Windows if you want AHCI enabled. I have read that Win 7 supports AHCI "out of the box" so instead of re-installing Win XP I want to install Win 7 to replace it. I would like to know in advance what installing Win 7 will do to the dual boot menu?

i just noticed a bunch of installed i386 rpms on my freshly created x86_64 v.guest.Several questions:
1. why ?
2. how to replace with appropriate x86-64 version?

When I installed fedora 11 the other day using the live CD it installed the i586 kernel and not the i686, despite the fact that smolt seems to know that that the hardware is i686 (well, actually it's x86, but I'm not going to argue because I forgot to get that one...). Why would it install the i586 one though? (uname -r 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i586) But more importantly, are there any specific issues which this version can cause that I should be aware of? I can't really be bothered to change it at the moment if there is no real issue with it but I'm not too sure what difference it makes? Is it slower? It seems to know that I have a quad-core processor and seems to use them fine.

I just want to get back to latest stable kernel of fedora 10. I'm not able from the grub to choose an older because there are only kernels for fedora 9. The problem was that previously I used fedora 9 however I upgrade it but it was still with kernel of fedora 9 so I pick it the unstable of fedora 10 and I installed it. Right now I just want to get back to current version of kernel in fedora 10 so I can upgrade it to fedora 11.

I am having issues after upgrading the Scientific Linux 6 kernel from its current 2.6.x version to the latest version that SL6 has available. The issue is that once I install the upgrade and reboot, the internet becomes extremely laggy when scrolling on web pages, so much so that you get a ripple like effect as your scrolling. Which doesn't occur in the current kernel i am using.
Current Kernel is: 2.6.32-71.18.2.el6
New Kernel RPM update is: 2.6.32-71.29.1.el6
I wish I could figure out the problem but I am having trouble identifying what exactly the current kernel has that the new one doesn't that would cause the internet lag. I have read other topics with similar kernel update problems, but none have expressed an internet problem & only an internet problem from a kernel update.
