In Sound Preferences I can see that there are a handful of predetermined profiles.I was wondering if it is possible to define other profiles. Specifically, what I want is an Analog Mono Output profile.

When I explicitly declare "path" param, it works ok. But I need PERSONAL home dir for every user separately, not one dir for everyone.
I want to run SoundRecorder (or audacity). I just want to create a small audio file. I can't seem to get the mike to record. I start the record function and expect to see changes in the "Level" indicator that correspond to sounds that I utter.

I have installed jack-audio, audacity and dependencies.
I'm using both firefox 3.5 and firefox b11 in my fedora 14. The problem is I need diffrent profiles to work with in ff4. BUt once I create a new profile ff4 is not working. But the profiles are working properly with ff3.5. Some please help me in this regard because i need to different profiles, as I'm in process of developing a ff4 addon

View 12 Replies View RelatedI was successfully using samba + fedora directory server in fedora 10 as a primary domain controller for my home network (achieved mostly by following barry905's instructions here: [url].
After upgrading to fedora 11, some of the pdc functionality no longer worked.
For example, when i ran 'pdbedit -Lv', i got:

I was able to fix this by adding to the [global] section in /etc/samba/smb.conf:

I also found that i could no longer join an xp computer to the domain. i discovered that for some reason, the samba administrator password had been cleared. after running:

That was fixed.
The last problem, which i have still not fixed, is that roaming profiles no longer work. when i try to do a domain login as user 'htpc' from an xp machine, i get the following message in xp:

I want to create a few audio cd's and the only burning software I have is K3b. But when I open it a window is displaying that says there is a system configuration problem and literally saying:
Mp3 Audio Decoder plugin not found. K3b could not load or find the Mp3 decoder plugin. This means that you will not be able to create Audio CDs from Mp3 files. Many Linux distributions do not include Mp3 support for legal reasons. Solution: To enable Mp3 support, please install the MAD Mp3 decoding library as well as the K3b MAD Mp3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions allow installation of Mp3 support via an online update tool (e.g. SuSE's YOU).
knows any other program to create audio cd's
I'm running xubuntu 9.10 and would like to create audio cd iso files for some of the music programs I have recorded to my hard drive. The only gui I know of that might do that is k3b but I don't want to install a lot of overhead. One of the sites I found on the web said that xfburn could make iso images, but there is no button or menu item that I can find to do it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble getting the pulse audio server to find the hw0 with the common m-audio 24/96 audiophile. This card worked with previous versions of all forms of pulse but seems to bork on the HW0 function for audio out...which is a stereo analogue simple output. Audacity sees the HW functions but pulse does not! Here is a screen shot of the pulse crap. And another screen shot of what the real card at "alsamixer -c 0" sees. There is no dac or adc detected or configured with pulse. This does not make any sense as alsa and alsamixer has all the correct device controls available to any other software that uses the ice1712 driver.
I am using Fedora 12 amd 64 as a live usb on a 16 gig stick and want to be able to record and mix audio on to HD with my reliable high end m-audio pci sound card without having to mess with the pulse crap or having to install a full HD option. BTW in the pulse sound configuration gui dropdown list there is no indication of HW0 and the only devices that are available in pulse are digital outs.....go figure, so essentially I can see all the correct connections and use programs that access alsa directly eg: audacity but have no sound through the crappy and ever borked pulse audio server! Any suggestions as to how to remove all the pulse stuff that comes with most distros that use gnome? I have done this deed before with Ubuntu but do no know how to do the deed with an rpm based system. If I install a non pulse version of xmms and let it use jackd then I should have reliable sound for cd audio etc and should be able to configure VLC, Ardour and Nted well without pulse getting in on the action and screwing up my sound.
I've installed both fluidsynth and qsynth, but get this error everytime I run qsynth. I'm trying to use my m-audio keyrig 49 just to practice playing the piano. I don't really care about having a whole DAW and whatever, I just want to play my keyboard. Maybe there is a better way than qsynth? Also, this happens:

I don't know that it has to do with my qsynth problem or not. I just thought I'd throw it in just in case it does. Also, xmms recognizes my keyboard in the alsa preferences, where the mixer device is.
My 1st and only grandson turned 1 year old and we have taken about 1 million pics of him. I wanted to make a video from pictures taken in the past year. The first one is an ultra sound picture. The last one was taken this last Saturday. I have 153 12 MPixel pictures in a folder. They are named C001.jpg - C153.jpg (I can rename them if needed).
I had noticed mencoder or ffmpeg can create movies from jpegs. But, I didn't think about the frames per second. Would I need to make like 20 copies of each picture and then make it like 10 FPS? or something like that? Optimally, I would like to have a video where each picture lasts for 8-10 seconds or so and I would be able to add a song as audio. (I think I know how to use mencoder to add the audio).
The workstation is running FC14.
I have the audio out of the media machine passed into the line in on my workstation. It's just handly to have the audio pass in this way so that i can manage the volume or headphones or whatever from one machine.
This worked, and worked well, for a very long time. I recently reinstalled the workstion, FC14 still. After the reinstall, my passthrough doesn't work.
If i start up some media on the media machine, and then open up the volume control on the workstation, i can see the volume meter moving along with the audio, but nothing plays out of my speakers.
Right after I installed F12 on my desktop (using KDE), System Settings showed 4-5 audio devices.
At the beginning, sound wasn't working, so I promoted the Intel audio device to the top of the list and then I got audio.
Next login, the system complained that there were unmanaged audio devices and I chose to keep the configuration (or something like that...).
However, now only the "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" device is listed and I have no sound again
I also tried to promote the GStreamer backend over Xine, without luck.

I would like to backup my wicd profiles. I thought it would be sufficent to copy /opt/wicd/data and /opt/wicd/encryption - however, those path do not exist in lenny (which I am running). So which path / folders / files do I need to backup in order to back up the wicd profiles and configuration?

Using 11.4 with KDE 4.6.In trying to diagnose a problem with my wifi AP, which keeps on disconnecting and reconnecting, I have changed from using NetworkManager to ifup and back a couple of times. (To no effect as far as diagnosis is concerned.)
When I last tried to use NetworkManager, having deleted the ifup configuration, my system behaved as though the NetworkManager profile still existed even though it had been deleted.
My AP has SSID set, say as "Actual_SSID."To create the new connection using NetworkManager (all old connections having been deleted)I scanned for available APs and selected "Actual_SSID." However by the time I had completed creating this connection it appeared in NetworkManager as "Actual_SSID(2)" as if the previous connection profile still existed.

1) VMWare under Linux (using Physical Driver)
2) Dual Boot with Windows
Now, the idea is great, access my Linux from Windows, and use Unity.Then, I can run Konsole like if it would be a Windows app, pretty sweet I also want to run Ubuntu 10.10 as a stand-alone distro, without the need of VMWare (since it's installed in a Physical Drive)The problem is the Xorg.conf driver I want to create two "profiles" in Grub 2, so I can have 2 different versions of Ubuntu
1) will use the VMWARE driver in Xorg
2) will use the Nvidia driver in Xorg
By doing that, I'll be able to use Compiz with nice Nvidia effects whenever I want (play games, use Compiz Cube, etc, etc) I will also be able to use Ubuntu 10.10 from within Windows and use the power of Unity to run Ubuntu apps within Windows

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a hybrid network of Windoz and Mac clients that I want to auth to a CentOS Samba server (currently running a tdbsam backend but will eventually be migrated to an OpenLDAP backend)...what is the best solution for "sync'ing" the Mac clients (mostly laptops) to the server, all the solutions that I've seen suggest that I should simply map the users home drive to the PDC but that doesn't mac much since to me seeing as they need to access their computers data while they're off site...is there a way to "sync" user profiles in Linux>?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.4 on a 32-bit machine, and I find that my gnome-terminal profile settings are not being saved across a restart. However, I can make the profiles save if I run gnome-terminal under root access. This makes me suspect that I have a permissions problem, but I am set up to run as Administrator, and I am the only user, so I am baffled why this isn't working. It certainly did work in version 9.10 on the same box.
This is getting irritating, since I have a method of setting up a development web server/debugger environment which requires 3 different tabs with associated profiles to make each a distinct set of colors and behavior.
getting profiles to work with the newer seamonkey? I found that after the initial upgrade from 1.1.18 to 2.0.0 user profiles weren't migrated/imported, so I backed the upgrade out.
Now with 2.0.3 and a bunch of new vulnerabilities I re-installed and still can't get a profile migration.. I resorted to giving up on the idea all together, but even when I erased ~/.mozilla I still can't get any profiles to work with 2.0.x at all.
Any attempt to start up a second instance with a new profile (-P) brings up the same profile already in use in the first instance, and switching profiles via "profile manager" from a running seamonkey will close the previously open profile to open the next one ....
I'm having problems establishing secure sessions with my bank's online banking service provider. I've already contacted their local tech and together we were unable to solve the problem. I've tried deleting my cookies, session store, cache, and none of it worked. He's currently forwarding our conversation to the service provider's tech support line, but who knows what will come of it. Or even if they will offer support for an iceweasel user. I'm using Iceweasel 3.6.4~build2-1 out of the experimental repo.
I'm able to login successfully to online banking site to view my list of accounts, however if I try going any further than that, I'm redirected to an error message page that tells me a security error has occurred - the online session has expired. I get this on browser profiles 1, 2, and 3, however I do not get the error message on profile '0' (default) or on newly created profiles. And as mentioned earlier, I've tried deleting all persistent data (cookies, session, cache) on a non-working profile and the problem still exists. Let me know if I can provide any more information.
